Congrats but I admit I'm a bit sad I never got a response to my pre-order days ago... sigh superwack I don't see a PM from you. I emailed back everyone that emailed me. If you emailed, please forward it to me. Thanks! Thanks, I emailed you at info@serranoaudio.com and just forwarded that email to you again. I understand if I've missed it and appreciate the follow-up but totally understand if I have to wait til they are released.

These look great! If I didn't already have some KM84s I would jump on it. I'm holding out hope that your next venture is a Serrano 67!

I think they sound pretty close. The KM84 is a bit tighter in the low end (the low end blooms more on the Serrano) and the mids at like 2k-5k are a little different. The Serrano sounds like a nice mic though. Congrats! I agree with this. It sounds like theres slightly more sizzle in the high midrange on the Neumann and the lows dont resonate quite as much. Really splitting hairs but maybe Carlos could accommodate a slight tuning adjustment if requested in this regard?

I own two Neumann KM84’s. In the one acoustic guitar trial recording I did with them right after I traded for them 3 years ago, they both sounded great, but with different frequencies standing out in the mids. They each sound good, but they’re definitely not a matched pair. My guess is they’re probably a decade apart in manufacturing dates (I should write to Neumann and find out).
To my point: Basically, my two KM84’s each have a sound that is farther apart from each other than this Serrano 84 is from the KM84 it went up against.
So... Based on that experience of my own KM’s, I’m impressed with the Serrano 84 i’m hearing in these clips.

Very recently, I've been able to extend the low end in the Serrano 84 to match closer to the Neumann KM84. It's not exact but it's super close! But as Chad mentioned, two vintage Neumann KM84's will usually sound different. Here are some new recordings in which you can compare the two. Levels are close but not exactly matched. You can also download the file below to load in your DAW. The tweak in the low-end really helped and these are sounding even better! After a lot of A/B'ing I agree with what was said above, the biggest difference now is in 2-5k making the Serrano 84 seem a little murkier and less even than the Neumann, if that could be brought up a tiny bit, it would be amazing.

The direct comparisons coming straight from Carlos really does attest to how good the work is and how confident he is in the sound. I’ve seen MANY clone companies not willing to take that step which communicates a lot just by their inaction there.
My 87s sounds tremendous so I’m definitely excited for these 84s and Carlos’s future endeavors!

That appears to be transient response as well as phase issues related to venting differences. Minute differences, but it matters a great deal to us pickier than most folks kind of audio guys. Agree....It's super close but missing a little of that presence that the Neumann brings. Still very nice sounding! There are some differences in the lower mud-range area also, which is affecting acute listeners. Many microphones suffer from mud accumulation in the 200-350 range, and it is something you can carve out with EQ but never seems to solve the issue. The direct comparisons coming straight from Carlos really does attest to how good the work is and how confident he is in the sound. I’ve seen MANY clone companies not willing to take that step which communicates a lot just by their inaction there. His willingness to listen is FABULOUS!! I am beyond impressed. My 87s sounds tremendous so I’m definitely excited for these 84s and Carlos’s future endeavors! Mine does as well! It's incredible. I thought the headbasket differences would be insrumountable, but I am happily wrong about that

Greetings once again! Please have a listen to the most recent and 3rd comparison of the Neumann KM84 and the upcoming Serrano 84. BOTH, the low-end and top-end are now extremely close and I don't think I will tweaking things any further! Below you will also find a comparison between the omnidirectional capsules, namely the Neumann KK83 and Serrano 83. The Serrano KK83 omni capsule will be including with the Serrano 84, whether you purchase just one or a pair. The tracks are not 100% level matched but you can directly download the files. This is reminding me of another thread on here where we're discussing two mics being paired for "stereo" and how close do they need to be in order for it to work well. Just listening in my Apple earpods, but seriously... cserrano ... I think you could use your mic and a real KM84 as a pair from what I'm hearing, and it would work just fine. I'm sensing similar eq curves, plus a similar transient response and output transformer compression going on. I'm impressed.

I spent some time analyzing and listening to the two clips over and over again... Carlos 83 sounds more like a great Neumann KM83 than the Neumann used in the comparison.
I'm very impressed!
