Lately I'm loving a Heiserman Type 19 and a AKG D12VR - the combo is great. I'm like the Heiserman much more than the U47FET. Also loving them on toms - I can't use anything else
The Alien8 is killer for kick too.

One thing with the studio series on kick that I’m worried about is the lack of a pad switch. I think the Elly has a max SPL of 130db? I'd pop them an email and ask. If you intend it to be "kick only", you might even try to ask for a permanent pad to be fitted, if it is a point of concern.

Tomorrow I'm using the ATM25 for the first time in a long while. Will report back.

We're happily using a lowly Audix D6, placed just inside a port on the face of the resonant head. Run through a CAPI VP28 Litz, into a Sound Skulptor Pultec EQ = happy

Tony, always seam to stumble on used ATM250’s and well you know when it comes to drum sound there are a handful of people I trust😁. As I rebuild the live rig I’m trying to do my best not to become the Ward 150 some mics of live, of course heads for wireless don’t count.

I’ve tried a lot of stuff and always come back to an original Sennheiser e602 on inside kick. I like it just inside a little inside the port hole. Outside kick changes from time to time but I think the sE X1D is really great, especially for under $100…because all my alternatives (M380, R44, U47FET, D12, CM7 FET S) are 10 to 30 times more expensive

There are 3 ATM25’s used at GuitarCenter Denver at $150ea, I know because I bought number 4 ( damn it I’m going to catch up with Ward again).

From my live sound days, the Sennheiser 421 was a surprisingly good kick drum mic. And of course the AKG D112 'egg' was a favourite too.

Horch RM2J Fet or 47 Fet with assorted dynamics like M88, 441, A55 Kicker, D12 and RE20 with a 4038 out front.
