I checked out the EMT today for any issues that may have occurred since since bringing back on the trailer. The plate itself looks fine and I took some shots (cell phone only) while I still had some light. Damn this thing is clean! I'm guessing it was most likely from the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) originally.

The majority of 'affordable' SDC's nearly always hype the high end. That combined with some proximity effect when micing say an acoustic guitar and you have a smiley face EQ off the bat. What I really like about the KM84 is its clear, focused midrange that doesn't get lost in the hype of many other SDC's.

A mac also hasn't been a real-time OS since system 9. Was that the shift from Motorola to Intel?

I found this... www.resplendence.com/latencymonQUOTE: The audio latency problem "Windows is not a real-time operating system. All requests to the operating system are delivered on a best effort basis. There are no guarantees whatsoever that requests are delivered within a certain time frame, which are the characteristics of a real-time operating system. That is not a problem for most devices and tasks but this is bad news for audio applications (which are considered soft real-time) because they need to deliver data to the subsystem and the hardware in buffers several times per second. If one or more buffers miss their deadlines and are not delivered in time it has audible consequences which are recognized as dropouts, clicks and pops."

SSD, 16gigs RAM, i7 CPU is the minimum spec IMO. Found out that isn't enough, at least in the PC world. The laptop I bought was an HP with an i7 gen 8 (very latest) quad core, 16 gig mem, NVidia graphics card, touch screen, USB 3.1. But the real time processing was unable to keep up, so audio would click, pop, and stutter. After much investigation, and using those two software tools for testing real time processing, I found there is a big difference between a "fast" PC and one that can handle real time audio. I tried shutting down unneeded services and optimizing it as suggested on lots of websites. But it just wouldn't reliably handle it. That's why I'm asking here, for those that are successful using a laptop, and which models work well. Returns are difficult to impossible, so I want to make sure the next one is up to the task. My 2012 MacBook Pro is still running fine for most things but when you say "real time" what do you mean because there ain't no such as real time unless you're not doing any processing at all. Are you trying to monitor via the output (post DAW) while overdubbing? I would say a 32 sample buffer is generally not too noticeable at least to be a major issue for most. However a 64 sample buffer can introduce too much latency for many. Can new laptops cope with 32 sample buffers without glitching? Although it doesn't show it in the summary it also is fitted with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1GB.

Well it depends. Sponsored posting and shared posting et al is not what it used to be, only about 10% of those who liked your page see any of your regular posts and sponsored posting tends to just force all those who already liked it to see it loads of times and show a few random others. It used to be much better but they're throttling it now to gain more revenue from it. Problem is I think they've killed the golden goose, as do lots of analysts. Their user base isn't growing like it used to. The studio Facebook page has been up for a few days and we've had a fair bit of initial activity due to friends responding to invites which is informing them that we have a new studio website. Of course after the flurry of activity this is now dying off and Facebook has begun bombarding our newsfeed with requests for us to pay to have our posts 'Boosted'. I've prepared a bunch of blog/news posts on our Wordpress studio website which automatically link to the FB page as soon as they are published so I will start releasing a news post every couple of days and see how much the activity spikes. I suspect overtime the response will be a lot less than it was to the initial launch as Facebook begins to progressively limit the number of people who can see our activity unless we pay for it. The other option is to set up a Group to ensure those who join it can see all our activity but then this by default will shut non Group members out altogether. Of course the next big thing that is growing exponentially is the storage of everyone's data exclusively in the Cloud with the ability to use local storage devices being not only discouraged but eventually restricted to the point that local storage devices such as external hard drives and memory sticks etc. will no longer even be recognised. At this point everyone's data is no longer their own and will be held to ransom by the corporate for profit cowboys.

Like it or not many people I know ONLY use social media to communicate these days.
I actually closed my FB account and left for a year. It was only when I discovered I had to first setup a personal FB page BEFORE I could setup a business page that I reluctantly rejoined the herd.
I've made my personal profile as private as possible.
The 'cashless society', self driving cars, loss of private property ownership, the surveillance state, etc. Welcome to the future and the future is now!

We did manage to find a "Music Production Studio" category but you have to first create a page before you can find it. It's not in the default FB choices offered before the page is created. The trick is to find a category close to what you want, create the page and then re-edit the category to something more appropriate.

Maybe you could write something like "By Appointment Only" in the address line and just have the city, state and phone number. I can't imagine that facebook really cares much if you provide the actual address or not. To their thinking you wouldn't get business if people didn't know where to go. I'm sure there's gotta be people putting PO box addresses in there. We have a contact form, email address and phone numbers. Anyway we're working on it today so we'll see what works and what doesn't.

I just discovered I have a brand new Ampex ATR 1/4" ferrite headstack in amongst my ancient collection! So we can at least convert it to a 1/4" 2 track. Hmmm... some tape pre-delay goodness before the EMT 140 perhaps?

Does it come with any extra Reel Servo cards? I have no idea. Due to be collected at the weekend. My studio partner was offered it.

Facebook removed "Recording Studio" when their programmers couldn't figure out what one was over their Vegan lunch buffet in the Menlo Campus.

That thing will change your life the first time you hear a mix come off it! Along with the recently acquired Coles 4038's, Retro Sta Level and EMT 140!! At this rate I'm going have to seriously evaluate liquidating some of our less used gear.

We are about to set up a Facebook Recording Studio page that will be linked to the News page of our Wordpress website so editing either will automatically update the other.
However looking through the available FB page categories there is no 'Recording Studio' category which is odd because there is a 'TV Studio' option.
I don't want to use the 'Local Business or Place' because it requires a physical business address and we don't particularly want 'unsolicited visitors'.
Any suggestions as to what others have done?

We have been offered an Ampex ATR-100 1/2" 4 track with a spare headblock in good working order. Not sure yet if the headblock is 2 or 4 track but a 2 track 1/2" would be nice and being a 4 track machine we would have a spare set of electronics. Cost?.... $0.00 I've read the logic side of the ATR's can be tricky if things go awry but it's hard to knock it back for free. How much practicalities trump mojo factor is another argument. Comments? Suggestions? 'here 'tis...
