While we’re rapping about musical conspiracy theories, anyone else listen to the “winds of change” podcast? It’s awesome. Fascinating dive into the CIA’s operations, esp their cultural influence campaigns, vis a vis the titular song, which some folks believe was actually penned by US feds to disrupt the soviets. I first heard about this on the podcast "No Agenda" from Adam Curry, yes THAT Adam Curry of MTV VJ fame. It's wild! I can only imagine how strange things are going to get with 3 letter agencies using AI and deepfakes. What a time to be alive 😁 In the short term AI will be used as a control mechanism. In the long term AI is likely to become an existential threat to humanity. ”The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake, or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the word, foolproof and incapable of error."

“Operation Mockingbird is an alleged large-scale program of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that began in the early years of the Cold War and attempted to manipulate domestic American news media organizations for propaganda purposes. According to author Deborah Davis, Operation Mockingbird recruited leading American journalists into a propaganda network and influenced the operations of front groups. CIA support of front groups was exposed when an April 1967 Ramparts article reported that the National Student Association received funding from the CIA. In 1975, Church Committee Congressional investigations revealed Agency connections with journalists and civic groups…” “In the early years of the Cold War, efforts were made by the United States Government to use mass media to influence public opinion internationally. After the United States Senate Watergate Committee in 1973 uncovered domestic surveillance abuses directed by the Executive branch of the United States government and The New York Times in 1974 published an article by Seymour Hersh claiming the CIA had violated its charter by spying on anti-war activists, former CIA officials and some lawmakers called for a congressional inquiry that became known as the Church Committee…” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mockingbird

While the CIA essentially replaced the OSS it has had strong ties to both Wall Street and organised crime (along with the FBI) since its inception and with narcotics and weapons trafficking on a global scale. If you look at CIA operations over the decades, and especially the so called covert operations that weren’t officially approved or acknowledged by Congress (plausible deniability), one could be forgiven for believing that the CIA’s primary purpose was to fulfil the role of Wall Street’s global attack dog using any means necessary while making those on the inside of the loop eye wateringly wealthy.

You were in particular danger with the Mob, if you started to get demanding about Record Royalties back then. They'd typically allow you most or all, of your "concert money" though. Was John Lennon’s murder a random act or a sanctioned hit? Was Marilyn Monroe’s death caused by suicide or was she murdered? Was James Earl Ray really MLK’s assassin? Was Lee Harvey Oswald really JFK’s assassin? Was Sirhan Sirhan really RFK’s assassin?
As for other significant global events I’ll hold my tongue.

How important is the condom in this method? And does it go on the computer? It’s fitted onto the hard di*k. Prevents data leakage. 🥴

I basically quit after GS deleted a bunch of posts warning of a shady gearbroker’s practices who had begun advertising with them.
He had burnt a bunch of people including me and taken someone who had contacted me via GS messages for around $25k and seemed to still be screwing some people over when suddenly his nefarious GS history was wiped clean.

Well destroying something in order to rebuild it definitely worked for Halliburton and others. It did. And that's why Cheney supported it. It was a huge mistake for our country to accept the lies of the Bush administration in an action that actually made the world less safe. We're further in debt. Our fighting men are in worse shape mentally. And GW Bush sits at home painting portraits of dead people, living in regret. I supported Afghanistan, but even that seems like a huge swing and miss now. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Is_a_Racket

Just wondering if anyone has the figures for how much money was raised in support of the people of Iraq after the 2003 US led invasion? Anyone? As of right now, the US has spent over $160 Billion rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan Well destroying something in order to rebuild it definitely worked for Halliburton and others.

Just wondering if anyone has the figures for how much money was raised in support of the people of Iraq after the 2003 US led invasion? Anyone? I would agree with you that there seems to be a difference in application of sympathies/support/etc. when comparing Iraq to Ukraine. However, just because no such (or at least not as much) sympathies/support/etc. were expended on the people of Iraq, that doesn't then somehow mean that sympathies/support/etc. should also not be expended on Ukraine. In essence, two wrongs don't make a right. What is difficult for me to understand is that there seems to be certain comments (not necessarily saying you) in this thread, and certainly out there in social media and what not, that seem to imply support for Russia or at least some sort of moral equivalency between Russia and Ukraine. Are we so divided now that we can't even ALL get behind supporting Ukraine? Russia is clearly the bad actor here. I'd like think we could all agree on that, but apparently not. I’m not condoning Russia’s action here or downplaying the terrible situation that innocent civilians suffer during wars but to state the Russia is clearly the bad actor fails to address what led to this situation.

KM84 is a no brainer for both its sonics (pulled back a little to also capture some of the shell) but, as already stated, the off axis hi-hat bleed doesn’t sound like a cat throwing up.

So what happens to the Apple items when people return them because they simply changed their mind? Are they resold as new, refurbished, returns etc? Obviously Apple makes so much margin they could probably just about throw the returns in the trash and not blink but I was curious.

It's funny you mention this... recently, I was lucky enough to work at Capitol. My day job is in advertising and we were recording some original music for a few spots. Anyways, a few sessions musicians in, we had a classical guitar player who asked for some reverb in his headphones. I had been waiting all morning for the moment we'd be able to use one of the chambers, and this was finally it. After a few minutes of futzing around, the engineer told us that there was some kind of routing issue and rather than hold things up, we should just pull up a plugin. I paused for a second and then asked, "you mean, the UAD Capitol Chambers plugin?" He said yes, it's the default reverb plugin there. We all had a good laugh at the irony that here we are, literally on top of the most famous chambers in the world, and we're using the plugin. The engineer also told us point blank that they had done a bunch of A/B testing and could not tell the difference between the two, that's how good they are. That's my funny audio story. I figured y'all might appreciate it. And Drew @ UA might as well. ha thats funny. That's the only plugin I've considered buying from UAD. But then I'd have to haul around a UAD accelerator. Which is the ultimate irony of UAD plugins is that they are just digital hardware. You have to have a piece of their hardware to use anything from them. So it's a bit better than real hardware, but in a lot of ways just as limited. So I remain UAD free.. I also know that you have to book the real chambers as obviously there is a limited number of them. So they are usually scheduled out to certain studios and projects. Now that’s funny. Wait until you have to haul around an actual EMT140! 🥴

The way I look at it is how long do you expect a new computer to last?
My 2012 MBP is coming up to 10 years and while it won’t win any speed prizes by todays standards I figure I got my moneys worth out of it after about six years or so.
I maxxed it out when I bought it (i7, 16 gigs RAM [soldered], Retina, etc) with the exception of the SSD (500 gig instead of 1TB) which was like an extra $600 AUD back then.
No denying that Apple bend you over for things like non user serviceable RAM and SSD upgrades but excluding a hardware failure I would expect an absolute minimum of five years of reasonably efficient usage out of a computer and preferably longer.
If spending an extra couple of grand up front gives you an extra two or three years of usage along with likely overall improved efficiency in terms of speed and just user experience then a couple of grand amortised over a total of 6 to 8 years is probably a relatively small price to pay.
My biggest annoyance is when catastrophic out of warranty hardware failures occur before the computer becomes obsolete by its performance limitations due increasing OS and SW demands.
The base model may be more than adequate right now but in a couple of years that can quickly change as leading SW developers nearly always leverage their code to make use of faster processing once it becomes available.
