KT DN360 was the standard for Analog Graphic EQ since the 80's ! This Behringer / Music Group KT is KT in name only! Nobody from KT of old is left, KT is now Behringer premium vintage reissue channel. As great as the DN360 was, the earlier KT DN27 and DN27A were even better with all LCR filters. But unfortunately took up twice the rack space of the DN360 and made SR monitor racks rather large. These early KT graphics may have been the best graphic EQs ever made! Behringer has a long long long long way to go to match early KT products. Gary

For the what ever it’s worth dept……
I don’t as of yet own any of Jeff newer EQ offerings but I do own 8 LC53s, 2 553fs and a pair of Dataronics 553s. All of these EQs are of the Swinging LCR topology. In Jeff’s newer offerings the topology is different so this may or may not be relevant here.
In all my listing tests, I have found that my gar1731s in all positions sound the best to my 67 year old ears compared to my other “gar” offerings. I have not listened/compared these to Scott’s excellent Opamps. so I cannot comment on them at this point.
In straight Sine Freq. sweep tests using my old HP generator and looking at the waveform on my old tek scope (not the most Modern of test gear), all my “gars” appear to be ruler flat from below 20Hz to above 20kHz with the EQs “In” And all the Boost/Cut knobs set flat. Straight sweep tests will not necessarily show the differences we all hear in different Opamps.

We used a bunch of different vocal mics for Stage back when I was doing SR on the road back in the 80s. SM58 #1 Favorite SM57 (with wind screen) EV DS35 #2 Favorite EV PL95 Beyer M88 (Great but if you only own 1, stick it in the Kick) AKG 451- CK5 (a little to much hi end but fits some singers) Sen 441 sen 431 Got to try 'em all and see what fits your pipes Most do wedges well with a good Monitor Eng. Using the HDMI port on a 27" Samsung TV hooked up to my Mac Pro. Using it for both photoshop and my PCB cad programs with great results.
I am an analogue guy as you guys know but these Samsung TVs should have more that enough resolution for DAW work. Why spend extra money on a computer monitor.

The color of the top one. Looks like a Sphere color. Black with white fonts would be my real first choice (also a Sphere color) Gary

Just built this for a Nashville Client. This is a 2 channel Box. The Mic Pres are basically Eclipse "C" pres but are using some BIG UTC mic trafos that were designed to feed a tube grid. The Zobel was FUN on this guy. It has transformer balanced insert sends and one of my gar6220 Twin Balanced receivers for the insert returns. The output of the 920 EQs feed transformers for balanced outputs. There are also a BST level controls. Feeding this guy is one of Jeff's 51x floor box supplies. This was all based on a racking project that I designed for me. Sphere projects are FUN !!! Gary

Wiz On the larger Sphere PCBs (mic pres and line amps etc) the bulbs are soldered in place. M1200B original and clone On the small SPA-62 DOAs wires are soldered to the bulbs from eyelets on the PCBs. SPA-62 DOA clones Gary

Besides BOSE, Community also used bulbs for tweeter power limiters. Sphere used #313 28v bulbs as fuses. They are in series with the +/-24v power rails feeding the DOAs. Lose an output transistor, the bulb lights and protects the power rails so the rest of the desk won't be affected. Also the lit bulb points out the defective DOA. In normal operation the bulbs remain unlit. Got to love OLD SCHOOL ! Sphere's M1200/M1200B Mic pre cards, SPA-50 cards and middle/late production SPA-62 DOAs all had #313 onboard the PCBs Gary

Anyone try these yet? Been out for a year now... The feedback that I have been getting from users.... Great for Summing Amps ! Great for Balanced Receivers ! Monkeyxx loves them in 312 style pres for guitar. Would love your feedback on other uses. Best Gary

Ethan just posted this...
Sorry for the downtime GroupDIY'ers! We had to replace a failed hard drive, and found the local backup was corrupt--SHEESH! Restoring a few hundred Gigs of data from a remote backup across the net takes a long time. We'll be back online by my guesstimate...12pm GMT

Here is my original rare 1971 White meter Omnipressor. (The Black meter guy is the somewhat later more common one.) This is the original reverse real time drum box and yes its a very dirty sounding box as its full of early slow LM301 op-amps. If the Plug sounds as close to the white meter, I bet JK is having fun ! Nice... so when are the kits going to be available Also, could you "enlighten" us as to the function of the bulbs in circuit? I'm assuming its not just for illumination. Thanks for your nice comments. No kits unfortunately. To many hard to source NOS parts in any quantity. Plus custom pots and input transformers. Knobs are also a problem. Also these do need a 51x rack as they are strictly +/- 24v The light bulbs are a Sphere thing. They are in series with the power rails and act as fuses. Lose a DOA and a lamp lights. They keep both the power rail from going down in the rest of the console and also tells you what DOA is bad. In a perfect world they should never light. Best Gary

Hi Guys and Gals
Here is a project I just finished up for a client of mine here at the BI test kitchen. It's based on a Sphere Eclipse C Mic pre.
The pre section uses a Cinemag custom built Sphere 7143PC Input trafo and a garSPA-62 DOA. It has 54db of gain in 5db Grayhill switchable steps. There are both 20db and 30db pads just like the original Eclipse C pre plus phase and phantom switches unlike the original Eclipse C.
The Hi pass section is a sweepable 20hz-240hz 2 pole filter and uses a gar6220 DOA. The filter is hard bypassable. This is the outer knob of the dual-concentric pot
The output section is a combo Fader amp and Line amp. It has a Fader followed by a gar6220 DOA with a fixed gain of 10db. This is the inner knob of the dual-concentric pot. The output trafo is a Jensen JT-123SLPC which is the same trafo as the 7393PC Used in a real Sphere Line amp.
I wish my Client would have ordered 11 instead of 10 as He now needs to find something to fill the last space.
GARY
