University of Edinburgh astronomers were working on it. a year or 2 ago now. I joined the Oculus Rift forum, just to ask about how the project was coming along. and then was told several months ago that the project was not going to be completed.

This is the first time in a long time I have been disappointed in the quality of the dialog on RGO. Debating the merits of gear, technique and even artistry is one thing, commenting on looks, hype and reality show stars is another. On this forum, we have: Distinguished designers and entrepreneurs (Dan, Langston, jsteiger, Svart), industry icons (Bob O, Dr Bill), world class gear pimps (Ericn), influential writers, players, folks who have worked their asses off to learn something and then share it. Who hasn't learned something from a post by mrholmes, Ragan, jcoutu or MJB? I'm embarrassed because I can't even begin to list all the names and accomplishments and people I have learned from. Forgive me. So now we are joined by another industry icon. Somebody who knows one heck of a lot, has shared it, and who has a history of bringing innovative products to the market, who has built a business (some of us know just how hard that is to do) and been very public with both his successes and mistakes. I own some Slate products, and in the past, when there have been problems, he has personally answered my questions and made things right. I'm not the least bit surprised he would offer to help Martin with FG-X settings. Based on my experience that is typical of him. Has anyone in this thread given him the warm welcome I have seen with dozens of other new arrivals to RGO? Welcome to RGO, Steven! The best audio recording forum on the Web. Good point... A little manners and humility go a long way. Heading straight to the negative about a product you have never seen, let alone used...is just poor form. Personal remarks and observations about someones looks, really? Thats not what this place is about. Stick to gear... Stick to being friendly and helpful. Offer advice to help others, and learn from the advice others have. Offer advice, based on your personal experience with the gear or technique, not what you read or watched on the internet. Post examples when you can. Be a nice and kind and thoughtful human.... we need more of them. cheers Wiz mods, respectfully request this post made into a sticky, and required reading by all who post at this very excellent site, frequented by so many good kind-hearted and intelligent generous music peeps.

the effects of Relativity (Special and General) are very interesting. here is an article about GPS that I really love. it shows how the mathematics of Relativity, are valuable and are used to make super precise corrections to Newtonian calculations. these are tiny differences, that would add up to make GPS unusable, if they were not factored in. this is well worth reading. www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/~pogge/Ast162/Unit5/gps.html

well, to my understanding, its a very subjective thing. my loving it to the maximum, in no way guarantees that you will too. you might not even like it. I'm not sure now about if there is any kind of demo. this is my first Native Instrument Kontakt thing. I will repeat though, I love Hammersmith. for me, (that is for ME), it peerless. it is sublime. I go crazy playing it.

love Ravenscroft. having a hard time thinking of how to compare. I'm not gonna try to. I'll just say this. I like Hammersmith so much that I don't know any words to tell you how much. I am inspired by it. alot. I've been looking for this for years.

I have been following this thread with the greatest of interest. a couple thoughts, in no particular order: - I love everything that you guys have written. I am absolutely amazed at how intelligent you all are. I have certainly been challenged by some of the things that you have written. and disagreed. and then someone will post more about their thoughts, and why they think the way they do, and I say to myself, wow, that guy is really bright. - I have been hanging out at the Astrophysics sub-forum of Astronomyforums.net for years. it is so awesome and interesting. there is one guy there in particular, who knows a lot. about many many subjects, in addition to astrophysics, and all physics. - it has happened many times on that forum, that people come on and say things about Dark Matter. I think its the best we got right now, to explain some stuff. and there is a lot evidence for it. I'm not sure now, I just don't remember how high the confidence level is, for it to being correct. I think there is room, for there to be other explanations for what is causing the observations we observe, than Dark Matter. but, like I said, it is the best we have right now. - on that forum, I have learned a lot about the Scientific Method. that is to say, how Science works. and things like how a Theory means something other than, the way that that word is used, and commonly understood. A Theory, is a lofty term. it means that it has passed rigorous criteria to earn that title. - there are some interesting ideas expressed on that forum, about things like Falsifiability (Karl Popper is someone who may have invented the concept). and there's something about Theories cannot ultimately be proven. they can only be disproven. and if they are NOT disproven, then they are accepted. Theories are good, if they can successfully predict test results. - also, regarding how Science works, as more is learned about things, new Theories may have to include and be in agreement with old Theories. but the new Theory, may introduce a higher more advanced level of precision, for measurements and such. - Time is such an interesting concept, indeed. I have spent time trying to learn about Relativity theories and such. nearly none about the Quantum stuff. though, I will spend more time on that, when I have more time, when I retire. years ago, I asked a lot of questions on the forum. I was told over and over, that the answer is in the Math. so I've been learning a bit about the Math of Relativity. there is a LOT to learn. - there is a German theoretical physicist who has a blog called Backreaction. her blog is fun to read. backreaction.blogspot.com/-ok thats about it. I will say again, I am really amazed at how bright you ALL are. I learned something from every one of your posts.

I may have seen it referred to on PianoWorld. but if I had to guess, the actual posts may have been on the site who's name should not be mentioned. if not there, then possibly Keyboard Corner. I don't think it was VI Control.

right on. I had wondered about it for quite a while. when I saw it was on sale, I read and listened to everything I could find about it. and ended up reading very negative stuff about it. and then a very awesome player and intelligent guy, at another forum made some comments, and I figured what the heck, give it a try. I like Ravenscroft, and the other ones I mentioned. but for me, Hammersmith is the one I've been looking for and hoping for. and I like it so much, that I thought that it was incumbent on me to share my thoughts with you guys. I fully understand how very subjective this all is. just because I like it, does not mean that you will too. that said, I am in freaking euphoria-ville about it. it has the sounds I've been wanting for years.

gotcha. I needed another Grand like I needed another hole in my head. that said, for me (FOR ME), I hit the jackpot here. this one is the one I've been looking for, the last many that I bought. I just got CFX and I love it. I like Pianoteq 5 alot. Keyscape's acoustic pianos are good (remember this is all just my humble amateur opinion). but Hammersmith? I'm ecstatic about it. plain, simple. I researched it like mad before buying it. read a lot of negative stuff. almost didn't buy it. a guy at Keyboard Corner made an interesting comment, positive comment. I took the risk. I'm all set. I am soooo loving life here. I cannot wait to play it again. btw, its my first Soniccouture, and also first Kontakt thing.

longscale, I have not tried this yet. I'm in no rush. I don't want to break my headphones. that said, the info in this guy's review is valuable. its all about not breaking the plastic. and getting to the metal bands. be aware that this looks a little tricky. you might be better off, not trying to do this if you think its too risky, and you'll break them. all of that said, read the first review. click on show more. he's got pictures and everything. I'll report back tomorrow with the size of the tiny torx. and welcome to the forum. lots of really nice, cool people here. www.head-fi.org/products/focal-spirit-professional

Christian, the tubes I got from you that you recommended for my GT pre make it awesome. thank you. guys, you need tubes? this is your man to call, for extra sure!!
just saying, in my experience, the Focals are phenomenal. do let me know if you ever want me to tell you what I found out about IF one needs to make them looser on your head. it might be an important thing for you, perhaps for 2 reasons: - if they're not quite so tight, they're a little less closed. for me, that works really good. I can hear my acoustic guitar a little better, as I sing. - the distance from your ears to the headphone speakers, can be critically important. by which I mean, that if the cans are tight, it might smush the speakers right up against your ears, and affect your monitoring negatively. I speak only from my experience. as in all things, ymmv.

Christian, welcome. The tube I bought for my mic from you is excellent. The tubes for my headphone amp, also superb. They're not 1 ear, but I reiterate in this thread, that I love my Focal Spirit Professionals. They are just a tad tight new, and I do not have a large head. (I bought a new pair, when my original pair had a problem.)
But, I will gladly tell anyone who wants to know, what I learned about, if I want to decrease the tension on my new pair, should I choose.
