What are you using is for? Solo piano tracks or tracks in a pop mix? Ravenscroft would be another hog I would imagine. For regular tracks, I end up using Piano In Blue or Alicia's Keys. I just play it for fun. never tracked with it at all. update: just played with Ravenscroft a bit. in UVI, opened in Cantabile (the Ivory thingy). I played it with all 4 mic positions turned on. just forget it. in the best possible way. I felt like I was playing a Steinway. crazy good.

cool John. guitfiddler, I am absolutely clueless. I have only messed with it a little bit. I am new to drumming. the high hat is truly a cluster. works well when playing the e-drums by themselves. hook them up to the computer, and forget it. from my experience, SD 2 and BFD 3 are a joy in terms of what some of the preset kits sounds.......drums......cymbals..... and yes hi hat.....................but wait, hold it..........I gave up on the hi hat....... I tried a couple things......making the setting for my kit, a couple other things...........no good. best I can recommend go on the Vdrums forum. someone there might be able to help you. www.vdrums.com/

I have SD 2 and some expansion packs, and BFD 3. I only use them to play with my e-drums. I love them. they are super fun.

There's so many to choose from. Ravenscroft really spoke to me, however is it efficient? thats a super hard question for me to answer because: - I have not been using it much lately. I do like it very much though. and even with all the difficulty I've had, I think its my favorite. - ok, here we go........I had a really tough time with artifacts and drop outs when I first got it. but the customer support was absolutely top notch. next thought...... they came out with an updated version, that was much smaller (GB size). I think that worked much better. next, I think it worked much better playing Ravenscroft inside UVI workstation (thats the default thingy), BUT, using/opening that, inside of Cantabile (thats the Synthogy Ivory host). I will tell you that I am no expert on any of this. try searching at Piano World, or contacting Ravenscroft support for more info. and here's info from Piano World. I'm minstrelman at that forum. www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2246820/Is_Cantabile_considered_to_be_.html

thank you very much Martin. nice board. I like it alot. I've been recording myself for years. though you'd never know it by listening to me. lol........ truly, I have come a long long way from where I started. its just that its taken forever. and I still have a really long way to go. I'm an all hats. so, I spread myself super thin, and never actually get good at anything, nor really learn how many things really work. compression being a topic that after all these years I still feel like a newb at.

compression.......hmmmmm..... its just the most fascinating subject, isn't it??? I am a total amateur. you heard of jack of all trades, master of none?? I'm a hack of all trades, master of none........ the thought of a magic box, that I plug my mic > mic pre......into, and viola!!!!!!!! omg, now I sound like (fill in the blank)...........sinatra, macartney, taylor, strait, van morrison......oh you get the idea........... well, of course it doesn't work that way........ life should be that easy. but its not. lol..........

hey guys, any thoughts or comparison to the Retro Doublewide Tube compressor? say for tracking vocals, while accompanying one's self on acoustic guitar?

I have a question though. I track, recording myself singing, accompanying myself on acoustic guitar. my chain is: mic > outboard mic pre > outboard compressor > RME Babyface > Reaper on my laptop.
I monitor myself with headphones using TotalMix. I don't have any latency. why would you have latency? I thought the latency that I get by direct monitoring using TotalMix was so small that it was positively negligible. I have done this for many many hundreds of hours of recording in the last couple years. previous to that, I recorded for many years with no headphones.
