I use s/pdif with a toslink cable, to output from my Babyface into a Schitt Audio DA, thats then rca cabled to my headphone amplifier. (really just posting to say what a laugh I got out of this recent interchange. really, you guys should write songs together): "Jamie, I didn't read that...but I kind've love you...all of your posts are like Tolstoy had a baby with Einstein. But then to meet you, you're like Jerry Garcia. We gotta hang some." "You complete me, Kennedy... You had me at "I didn't read that"! .....We really do gotta hang." I read alot, and am a huge fan of comedy. I also study astrophysics, so the Einstein reference really tickles me. I read about his Relativity theories alot.

new to drumming. have a v-drum set. bought SD right away (1 year ago now). bought BFD 3 ~4 months ago. love SD and BFD 3. not sure how you would use them. I've never used a groove or beat or whatever they're called. never recorded. BFD 3 is much deeper. imho. humongous amount of features and controls. I just do it for fun. and for me, I am extremely happy with it. very glad I bought it. also, they have a new feature that greatly reduces how much space it will take on your hard drive (or SSD).

my own thoughts, which may only apply to me, with regards to having only 1 vocal mic, or more than 1: I do a wide variety of songs. some are very soft and quiet. others are very loud and rockin'. and everything in between. in my experience (I'm an amateur , I find that different mics can excel in different songs (or types of songs, maybe I mean to say). the idea of finding THE Perfect, be all end all mic, seems like a cool idea. but as time goes by, I've kind of gotten the multi mic impression. (and I love gear, what I can say. might as well face reality, right? lol)

I was so thrilled by the idea of punching in, years ago, when I first started recording in digital. for me, (this only applies to me, and I am an amateur), I found it to be so time consuming, with such lousy results, that I never even think of doing it these days.

right on. it is difficult for me too. I find it to be non-intuitive. but after all these years, I am finally able to believe that I am not throwing away super extra special bits of recording capture, by recording at a lower level. it takes will power to stay the course. but I'm doing it.

thank you wiz. this is a huge help. I have recently started recording at a lower level. never this info presented this way. really had been wondering for years, if there were not extra special bits higher up closer to 0 dB. just hugely helpful dude. thank you again.

I just added something to my last post, as you were posting this. roger what you say here. no Mac stuff here. all PC. over at the Piano World forum, I know that people were very enthused about the Kawai MP11. this was a couple years ago. I'm thinking a used one will not be found under $1000. thinking way more. just sayin though, in case you want to check it out, or could save up more, if you wanted one.

you're so right about "try it yourself". there's just no substitute. its highly personal. other people could love the feel of a certain DP. but you can't stand it. in my experience, I read so many reviews by so many people that loved such and such DP's, and when I finally got to a store to try them, I did not like them at all.

gotcha. and I think you're wise. been there, done that with software troubles. never ending. never perfect. always problems. I've just learned to live with them. am I happy when they freakin still glitch and there's clicks and drop outs? no. but, I appreciate the good, and just tell myself that someday, I'll build or buy a computer that will have enough power to work perfectly. you know, you might try checking out piano world forum. no idea what your needs are in terms of keyboard feel. I mean like piano action or synth action, weighted or semi-weighted, and on and on.

roger all that. no experience with the Creamliner. no real experience with tape from the old days. (a little bit, on an extremely small limited scale.) but, man I'll tell ya, though it has taken me a while, I really am sooooo digging my 542 now. to me, it CAN (not always) sweeten the tone. I had to experiment for a while, to dial in something I like. since I'm an all hats, and I'm using it for tracking, I can't sit there turning the knobs and pushing the buttons on it, while I'm occupied singing and playing guitar. one only has so many arms, hands and ears. lol

- Rupert Neve 542 Tape Sims (for printing mixes back through) - CAPI FC526 pair If you guys have opinions on any of these I'd love to hear them I have a pair of Neve 542s, I like what they do. Mixes just sound better with them inline. Over time I have drifted toward minimum settings, without using the "silk" feature. A bit of saturation and blend at 30 IPS does the trick, every time. The reputation of the FC526 is well-earned. I love mine, they sit on my drums OH bus all the time. Get a pair, you won't regret it. hey Matt, did not see this before posting. I have never liked the 15 ips. only use 30 ips. only have one 542. track myself singing accompany with acoustic guitar. turning the 3 main knobs as well as changing between red, blue and no silk........all kinds of combinations can be fun. its taken me a while to appreciate it. did not use it for a long time. I like what it can do to tone sometimes. for example, too bright, give it some blue silk. too dark, red.........
