The older the tube gear, the longer I let it warm up before I use it. At least 30 minutes for vintage tube comps.

Green Dot is a new one I found out from Jim Gilmore, amazing tech and mastering engineer here in Nashville. Try them, Jerome.

nothing...just forgot to mention him. What are your thoughts on Pepper? Just curious. I've never used them nor visited. Pepper is kick ass! He will help you immensely. He also just got a big load of new "old" gear in, too. shop.peppersproshop.com/main.scR

My friend, Dave Roe, was the bassist on the single mic sessions. They used an Ampex 601 from what I was told.

From what I have heard, the Bluebird has been sold. Might be a Cheeseburger In Paradise soon. Better news for you, there are lots of places to eat that accommodate your dietary needs, Wiz, and lastly, you'll never catch me standing in that insane line for mediocre pancakes. I can take you to Woodlands, which has some of the best Indian food in town and they are strictly vegetarian there. The hotels near the airport are some of the best deals in town and you will be 15-20 minutes from the heart of all things Nashville.

Just thinking about the Vintage King credit line that's burning a freaking hole in my pocket...What could I expect when running the 2 mix out through two Neve LB's in line mode? Much difference at all? Wasteful? Better or just different? Say this out loud, John. No more debt...I will purchase when I have the funds to do so... R

It would be pretty hard to match settings unless you used test tones I would think. It is a wonderful eq that forces you to use your ears and that is the beauty of it. I will have to listen to the software when my ears unclog as I have been under the weather for the last few days.

He is the epitome of boutique gear manufacturer. He has had limited ad space and relies on word of mouth for advertising. He has grown his company slow and steady without getting into massive debt like many other companies have. Give one a try and I imagine that you will be a fan for life. That is what has happened to me.

I will take a pair of Jeff's 526's or my GR 501's over them in a heartbeat. I always thought that by the time you got them thwacking a snare right the whole bottom got too murky for me.

I have. I own some of the other Neve types like the Great River MP-2NV that all have their defining merits. The RTZ's hang with all of them and to my ear, they sound a bit better. The GR is a fantastic neutral preamp that works on just about everything under the sun and the RTZ's are like that. Lots of development time (years) went into making the 9762 and 9762a's, to get them right. I was amazed at how he nailed the rack version to the 500 series version and made them so you can't tell them apart. Both versions have a much better top end than any Neve I have used. He found a way to remove the cloudy veil that Neve's tend to have. Sparkle without being harsh or brassy is a good way to describe them. I rarely have to eq much and choose to spend time mic placing until the instrument sounds captured correctly. They are truly ideal for what I do here. To date, they are my favorite preamps. Next come my Telefunken V-72's, Great Rivers, Forssell's, McCurdy AU-300's and the Edwards Audio LE-10's all fall into mainstay use and tend to stay on certain instruments when tracking. Since I mostly track everyone live on the floor, I am glad to have some options and enough to go around that I can switch out if something isn't hitting me quite right. I can say that from a personal taste driven opinion, that there are no better preamps on the market today. Different colors, but none better made.

That is a real drummer. His name is Pasi Leppikangas. He toured with us for several years. Hoss of a player, too. He has toured with the Bellamy Brothers and Michelle Wright as well as others. Great funky brush work guy.

That banjo solo subbing for Eddie's keys is so cool! That's just fun.... I have toured with that banjo guy, Scott Vestal, extensively in 3 different bands. Super good friend and the best there is. We have played on each other's productions for years. Check this out, too! R

Here is some sage advice someone gave me way back that I use when learning a show. Start your solo the same or very similar each night and let it blossom into something of its own. That way, the band knows you are starting the solo and even on a huge stage, there is confidence to follow through with a new idea. Once you have consistency in the solo, then take the training wheels off and play something totally different right from the get go.

Have you guys heard of this yet? It's the best I have ever heard to date. They make real pianos, but they start at $280,000. I want to get a nice controller and dedicated piano rig next year.

For me, compressors controlling dynamics without hearing it control dynamics is a huge thing. I am all about getting some of Jeff's 526's, a couple more Great River 501's and the Charter Oaks SCL-1 comps as my future purchases. The AML 54F50 is my next purchase coming up soon and then my sights will be set on the others, one piece at a time, slow and steady.

We did get some solid ice. I am glad I made it home from Georgia before it hit. I did get to see svart for a couple of hours! I will be going down again soon and will get to check his place out next time. There are no salt or brine trucks to be had here in the south, so it makes for some treacherous driving even if you are (from Iowa) used to driving in it because no one else is. I am glad I have another 12 songs to mix and the fridge is full! Attachment Deleted

Well as I'm sitting here in pain waiting for a hospital room thinking this was the time I was going to listen to all the stuff posted in here this week I realize the headphones are in the car As far as compression and tone , I was talking to my neighbor the classical violinist telling me about a guy squashing his tone! yeah man, hope it's nothing serious bud! I second that! I hope it is an easy and not costly fix. R
