crouching chicken/painted tiger..... wtf? I can't believe they did that lol Movie animals got a bum deal in the 80's.... that's for sure. How about 'White Panther' ? Sounds like a kung fu villain. And as I look at a bottle of Cherry Coke, the name 'Cherry Smoke' comes to mind.

Just occurred to me that 'Black Tiger' is surely too close to 'Black Lion'....

This made me think of the movie... which made me think of the panther in the movie, which was actually a tiger spray painted black. And since converters seem to be associated with colors, how about: Black Tiger or White Tiger

Microphone parts is giving away a free capsule with the Linear 87 kit (includes a samar transformer, PCB, components).... so basically you can buy a GXL3000 donor body for $92 from amazon, then $269 for the kit-- total $361 for what I'm sure is a top notch mic (based on my experience with their other products): microphone-parts.com/mod-kits/cad-gxl3000-mods/Pretty tempted on this one.

I already have an Aeropress. Best low tech coffee maker ever. Clearly you're only going to sell quality products, right? Signed up. +1 .... love my Aeropress. Try the inverted method if you haven't already. Registered.

Any chance of ADAT compatibility in the future? Can't believe the alphalink has 8,000 I/O and no spdif.... I'll see what i can do. Adat is a proprietary format, So you only have a few options for the chips, and their availability. Cool -- thanks for checking. I'll definitely be in for AD and DA if you can make it happen.

I would be in, but I just realized the Alphalink has no spdif, so I guess I don't have a way to hook it up.... unless I'm missing something? Never used a dedicated AD converter. It doesn't. Do you have the ADAT version of Alphalink? I have the AX with MADI/ADAT.

So I kinda need to start thinking about quantities. More quantities mean cheaper unit prices, but I don't want to do a pilot run of 20 and only have like 3 people buy them and be stuck with thousands of $$ worth of units. Depending on the chassis costs, I'm looking at a target of around 300$ sales price for the ADC-to-SPDIF/AES converter. This is around 70$ less than R-M's ADC converters. I have subtracted the optical output as this is not industry accepted for the most part, but I have added the LCD and control system so nobody has to go inside and flip a bunch of tiny switches. Also, the units will have an expansion option for the DAC, to keep upgrade costs down. You'll open the unit, pop out a couple plastic hole covers, screw in the new board and be done(that's the plan anyway). This will keep you from having to buy a separate converter box like R-M has you do. So should I start another thread asking about interested parties, or just have them sound off in this thread? I would be in, but I just realized the Alphalink has no spdif, so I guess I don't have a way to hook it up.... unless I'm missing something? Never used a dedicated AD converter.

Like I was saying, when it comes to the SSL eq, when using the board there was something it would do special to a snare when you would bell the HF and crank it at around 8k. Also, the SSL was really good at 1.5k on the snare to give it some cut, kind of a narrowish Q, every emu I've used and I think I've used just about every single one has never really done that, this one does. I always loved the SSL eq on snare, I never went OTB when I eq'd the snare on the console because it's almost like that eq was perfect for snare drums. The LF is really similar as well, it gives the 200hz thud something that no other eq I've used has ever done, and, just like the rest of this emu it does that. So, I have to conclude IMO this is the best emu of the SSL eq I've ever heard. Thanks for the specifics -- that'll give me something to play with and compare.

I used it last night and I was really impressed with the VCA comp and the SSL EQ. I worked on an SSL for years and that emulation is pretty damn close to how it sounds, all the other emu's miss something on the bright attack it adds to a snare, and the Slate version really reminded me a lot of that eq. Why'd you have to say that??!! Now I'm gonna have to buy it..... I was thinking along similar lines that it was probably redundant since I already have UAD 1073, 1176, VBC, etc........ but I don't have SSL EQ, and if he nailed that, it's worth the money for that alone right? Especially considering the low CPU usage and not tied to a dsp dongle.......... Bye bye money. Of course I'll demo it first, but I tend to buy almost everything I demo since I'll stick it on a track I'm currently working on, and then I don't want to mess with it once it's sounding good.

The kit is SUPER fun to build and one of the best layouts I've seen. I have a studio session lined up for tomorrow where I will get a first peek at how it performs with the Heiserman HK67 and Amperex EF86. I am looking forward to testing different configurations in later sessions but i need to get hands on Telefunken EF86 and Neumann capsule to establish a "baseline" for comparison. Sweet! Let us know your impressions when you get a chance.

Here you go -- this is from the Gdiy thread: "Confirmed, I emailed Sennheiser USA: Yes we do still stock those capsuls as part #053225 for $553.38 each. Please call our sales dep. at 860-434-9190 x1 to order one." It was actually $553.83. . . I just felt the need to clarify this gross mis-information That's really unfortunate..... where am I gonna come up with the extra fifty cents? !!? I guess Christmas is off this year... Seriously though.... the more I read about the u67, the more I want. This kit looks peachy keen.

you could totally substitute "mixing" under your "first time right" mantra 8) This is exciting C, it's totally fun to watch you going at this full throttle man! I was thinking the exact same thing when I read it.

Earlier this year, B&H was selling beyerdynamic dt880's for about $200.... not sure why, and not sure why they went back up to $300, but I bought a pair at the time. I was doing some work for a client that had a pair and he was noticing things that I wasn't picking up on my headphones and monitors, so that was enough reason right there to try them out. They've become my favorite headphones by far for checking mixes, but I really haven't worked with them THAT much yet.
They are very natural and wide sounding, but revealing of detail and sibilance in a useful way that's not too 'in your face' like the grado's I had been using for that purpose. Smooth and non fatiguing and crazy comfy for my big head. Bass is present, but not at all hyped.

I screwed the pooch on the 2520... 8( thought I would try mill max pins in first... not a good idea... main board is going well... now I gots to order another 2520.. dammit cheers Wiz That's how I've done the last few since I saw Chunger doing it that way in his guides.... it probably is a little more annoying/difficult that way. I need to build a couple more so I'll probably switch back to installing mill max last. With these opamps, I think the most important thing is finding a soldering tip that works for you.... I've tried a bunch, and have settled on the T18-D08 (0.8mm chisel tip) for my Hakko iron. For pretty much everything else I use a 1.6mm chisel tip.

Just finished my vp28 pair and put them over the mix of a song I'm working on which wasn't really 'gelling' for me yet.....
I've heard samples before, but it's a whole other thing when you hear them on your own mixes.... wow. I'm a believer -- bass is tighter, snare is punchier, vocal sounds a little more polished, and everything is more glued.
2520 on input and 1731 on output btw.

Capsule: $250 (Heiserman) - $550 (neumann/senn) Where can you get a Neumann K67 cap for $550? Directly from Neumann/Sennheiser apparently. There's an phone number on a groupdiy thread. I'll see if I can find it...
