Or even recorded one? Been in the same room as one? Know of modern ones that don’t suck?
I did talk to Lindley about his but can’t remember what he was playing and I wont get to have that conversation again, sadly.

Ok, had a quick look around and there is the Avedis/Pye, Pom and Pynamic, so at least three versions of the Pye out there.
Q2 seems to still be making the Compex.
Which leaves the Focusrite the lone member of my serious suggestions that does not appear to currently have a hardware clone.

I have spent a bit of time searching around for a cheap option, and most of them sound too good! I don’t think I am really going for super lofi or out of tune, but I’m also not sure I want to spend much on what is ultimately pretty niche. I m not really a keys player, so having to buy a bunch of good sounding ones to get an older upright thrown into the bundle probably isnt going to happen. Thanks for the suggestions to check out though.
Pianobook has what I think are mostly or maybe all free sample libraries, but so far the ones I have checked out haven’t quite been what I want. Mechanical noises that sound real, etc.

I have to figure out how to route things in my rack. I have more outboard than I do i/o, so some stuff may end up being patched in series. Previously I have had easy access to the back of the racks so repatching wasn’t a problem. Not so in the current setup. I suppose the obvious solution is a patchbay, but for a little home studio that is just me? I dunno.

I got a usb cable for my Casio electronic piano. Whoopee. But only after I lugged it upstairs to where the computer is and discovered it doesn’t take the midi cables I ordered for it. D’oh! Cheers , Geoff Sometimes, the little things are most satisfying! Er, I suppose. I finally figured out how to route the Logic I/O with my Antelope interface was pulling my hair out just about. When I finally got it sorted it was duh, that makes perfect sense. Cheers, Geoff

Yeah, in the 90s I had a couple Adats and a Soundcraft board, a dbx comp, the lowest end one, ugh, an Ensoniq DP4, and a growing body of mics, including an SM7. What I didn’t have was a space. So did mostly demo level stuff, but a couple things were self released, and I was charging money for my services. So semi serious I suppose. Then came real employment, a dog, marriage, a kid etc. And recording went back to hobby status, where it has remained.

First, I don’t want to dissuade you. But. Just to get up and running, it will be very expensive. Beyond the space itself, acoustical treatment, electrical, hvac, security, insurance. And we haven’t even started on recording equipment. Cables will cost more than you expect. Headphones, and headphone amps. Mic stands. Goboes. Microphones. Instruments? And amps? Outboard gear like eqs, compressors etc. Monitors. Mic pres. Interface(s). You will need to budget for all of this. Then think of how to attract, build and retain a client base. How much can you charge in your area? Can you afford to eat if it takes a few months to begin to get busy?
I wish you luck.
Cheers, Geoff

I love my Audeze LCD-5 headphones. Crazy expensive but probably the best purchase I’ve made in a long time. Honestly less fatigue than with speaker. Just looked up what those go for. Yikes! Cheers, Geoff

New to me. But I could do a pair of these and a pair of Kalis. Anyhow why the 5s over the 4 for example. They seem to be billing the 5s for atmos, which I don’t do. Cheers, Geoff I ordered both sets and found the 5s translated better for me, returned the 4s for a full refund. Totally painless. Not sure if it’s possible up here in Canuckistan but I am going to look into it. Thanks for the tip. Cheers, Geoff
