Well, I pulled the trigger. I did the $399 bundle of 3 plugins and get one free. That, plus the $50 off chambers coupon meant I'm spending about $92 each for UAD plugins, which is better than most sales.
Bought Capitol Chambers, TubeTech CLB1 MKII compressor, API Vision, and AutoTune Advanced. Each of those would be $300 or more at list prices.
@drew, you're going to have to share with me those tracking signal chains you have set up with the TubeTech. I'd like to learn what I can from someone who uses it for tracking.
Stoked to try the Chambers on some vocal and guitar tracks.

Killer deal at just the right time!

I can't jump in right now but I did seriously consider getting a Satellite and entering the UAD world. Maybe for the next sale, whenever it happens...

When did UA start charging tax?

When did UA start charging tax? I got charged Sales Tax on my Cubase upgrade download. The Wayfair SC decision changed things. Here's a summary: South Dakota v. Wayfair. On June 21, 2018 The United States Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in South Dakota v. Wayfair that states can mandate that businesses without a physical presence in a state with more than 200 transactions or $100,000 in-state sales collect and remit sales taxes on transactions in the state.

Yup. Everyone is having to do it now. Sweetwater is for example in almost all states.

After messing with this for a while, yeah, it’s pretty awesome.
Do coupons not work with the 4 for $399?
Thinking about getting Cap Chambers, API EQ’s (they’re really good), CL1B II and maybe Vertigo comp/33609/Lex 480/Distressor

I can't jump in right now but I did seriously consider getting a Satellite and entering the UAD world. Maybe for the next sale, whenever it happens... I was thinking the same thing. Today I found out that with registration of a new Satellite or Apollo, you can get a free upgrade to the Analog Classics Pro Bundle, which includes the new LA-2A, Pultec EQ, 1176, Fairchild Limiter, and UA-610 collections. This is for puremix members, but I believe it's true for free puremix members as well. Even with the current sale the Analog Classics Pro Bundle is $399, so spending $1,000 (or less) on a UAD-2 Satellite USB Octo and getting a $399 bundle that I was going to get anyway, well, it's just too good to pass up. I'm jumping in now!

Yes, I got that offer too. Very tempting. I wonder what would be the essential/best plugins to get on top of that, besides the CC. Maybe I need to do it!

If I jump in and buy a Satellite Octo, I'd be getting the Puremix offer for the Analog Classics Pro Bundle and buying the 4 for $399 bundle. Supposedly I was already "all set" with the digital part of my studio. Shall we start a new thread about current favorite UAD plugins?

I would think the strategy would be to get the most expensive plugs that you want with the 4 for $399 thing. But yeah start a new thread if you want.

This might get me to jump into the UAD plugin pool again, have been missing the Fairchild plug, so 4 plugs for 399 looks very tempting.

Do coupons not work with the 4 for $399? The $50 CHAMBERS coupon worked for me, but it had an expiration date that has already passed. You really could only used that with the bundle sale for like 48 hours. So, with tax I spent about $92 per plugin. Pretty good for UAD. Messed around singing with Chambers last night and it gives a kind of polish that's different than the EMT 140 plate. I want to compare it more with some others I have like H-verb. I've never gotten the hang of adding reverb to drums. I usually put just a small amount on there out of fear that it sounds unnatural. I'm hoping this gives a bit more confidence.

Seems like chambers can fit nicely in a modern mix with a shorter decay and healthy predelay.

I missed the boat putting the 3+1 for 4 bundle in the cart and applied the $50 chambers coupon just to see that it worked late on May 31st and planned to execute the final purchase the next day after I demoed not realizing the coupon would be gone hours later too late (but tax is now added.) That $70 swing in the wrong direction in my mind has given me pause knowing if one ever wants to sell your UA plugs, you can only do it by selling all of them with a UA device to a buyer that will only likely want to pay for the ones he really wants and not the rest.

It's got a Unison SSL pre feeding the Putnam Mic Collection (mic model and HPF) then into the Tubetech (I have other presets with LA2s, 1176s, Distressor, etc) with its side chain filter set to 220 so the low end doesn't trigger too much compression, and finally the Maag which I sometimes use to add back some air if needed post compression. Most of the time, I commit all of this to tape. The mic stays up on the stand (covered with the included velvet bag) 24/7 so I can be in vocal mode in 2 min whenever needed!

The above is my little version of what they do at Sear Sound. Here's a pic I took last time I was there. Approx $100k worth of mics on stands at all times.

I would love to just live there. Sear Sound has always been one of the best. It's going to be a sad day if/when it ever goes.

Thanks for sharing. I don't have the SSL or the Sphere, but just seeing what you are committing to on the way in inspires me to try a few more things than I have been. I just recently started testing Oxide Tape on the way in. Not sure if that would be good after the compression or not. The only time I've used compression when tracking was with the VoxBox and the API Vision. It worked well on those! Oh, and the Capital Chambers in the pre-fader Aux has been great to sing through!

re: Capitol Chambers..... so many people fail to realize how important it is to make the artist/performer's headphone mix STELLAR. As you note, singing into a great chain and monitoring ambience like CC makes you deliver a better performance. period!! I VERY often put Studer (sometimes Oxide) in the last slot of the recording chain, as if I am printing to tape. Basically mimicking the way records have always been made. Why reinvent the wheel?
