Nope... like them just the way they are colorful... Glad it is something new and not another "Me2" plugin or bastardized vintage hardware piece.

Well looks like I've done myself in with Ward. He may never listen to another one of my tracks again afraid I've used a Gap 3a in there somewhere. Edit, I'd better put a smiley on here so folks won't think I'm a dick. There we go.

I really dislike what it does to vocals and guitars, to be honest. I am rather unimpressed with this unit's sonic stamp on percussion elements too. It does have an impact on bass, but sounds nothing like what an actual LA3a (or, and I keep preaching this, an LA4) sounds like on bass either. Wait, wait, wait...are you saying you don't like the GAP COMP-3a, Ward??? I couldn't tell from your slagging of it in every single post ; ) I'm gonna go out on a limb here (bear with me) and suggest that you should NOT buy one. I know it may seem rash but my gut is telling me it's the right decision. Go ahead, take it out of your cart at Sweetwater...you'll thank me later. you, sir, are a wise man!! Intuition? Thy name is @ragam

Well I'm with Ward on the puppy thing: when I used it, all my mixes sounded scratchy, made wierd whimpering and howling feedback noises and got oddly wet at ackwards times, but when it was dialed in, the mix just sat in my sonic lap in a sweet endearing way but I definitely prefer real puppies to cheap Chinese clones and don't even get me started on the plug !

Ward doesn't like puppies either. Ok... this needs to be addressed. Many days, my rottweiler puppy-girl is my favorite family member, her name is Decibelle (no kidding) and her nickname is puppy-girl. But my favorites? SWEATER PUPPIES!

Oh say, speaking of LA3a clones... does anyone have one of Brandon's?? mohogaudio.com/dynamics.html Note the MO3a Note that it's stereo. Pretty dandy list of features too: Transformer balanced input with custom Altran Transformer Haven't got an opinion on these. Anyone else?? [/i] Transformer balanced output with custom Edcor Transformer Dislike the low output and underwound characteristics of Edcors. [/i] Limit/compress, MOD, PAD and HF contour moved to the front for easier operation Ok, now that's pretty cool. [/i] Program dependent Should be independent too, shouldn't it? [/i] Custom matched T4 optical units by Drip Electronics I don't like this part. I'd rather he used Keneteks at this price! $1900 isn't bargain basement like a GAP.[/i]

Certainly not Marinairs, and not Edcors. Probably Sowters or Cinemags but I can't remember. I told Dan to build it the best he could. I trust him and his choices.... Don't have time to pull it out of the rack right now... If it helps... Attachments:

PS - I will say the Mike @ Serpentaudio - maker of the SA3A - is a freaking genius. And one of the best designers out there. Especially when it comes to compressors.

You are wasting your $ if you think these will improve the gap, they won't clean up the hash issues i hear in those samples, that exists in cheap component electronics, not the iron ime, these could help to unflatten the image a bit maybe? It's never going to be on par with an SA3A, Mike bought all the old school transistors and painstakingly matched the SA to spot on the LA, except with an improved PSU, and built in mods that all LA3A owners eventually get done. www.hairballaudio.com/catalog/parts-store/audio-transformers/sa-3a-transformer-bundle

Mike at Serpent had the interstages custom made for him. He did a lot of work to get those things to market and a bunch of testing. SA 3A for the win.

Ive had this for a couple of weeks and I like it, or at least the idea of it. First time hearing a LA3A type compression and I love what it does...makes me want a Serpent Audio one or an original. The only things that I dislike are...the top seems a little sharp and a loss of all transient info. Probably put in a kenetek and better components.
