Only had a few minutes to play with it but I was really impressed. Has that "locked in place" thing that I love about LA3a's. Nice weight and punch on vocals. Totally pins guitars in a cool and unobviously smashed way. I ran a vocal through the EQP-Wa --> WA76 --> Comp-3a --> Burl (with some attenuation) and pretty quickly got a vocal sound I've been chasing for a long time. Granted I knew what to expect to some degree cause I've been doing that but with the UAD LA3a. Anyway. Just a first impression but it was a very good one. Attachment Deleted

Thanks for the input, Ragan. Looking forward to more reactions as you settle in with the unit. This or the JLM are on my list, not to mention the UAD plug if the HW doesn't smoke it for the dough.

ragan - have you run any acoustic git or bass? I did run acoustic guitar. Sounded awesome. No bass yet. I'll be freed up by tomorrow and can pop the top and maybe post some clips.

Here's the guts. Kind of obnoxiously brightened, was just trying to make it discernable and had some phone/file transfer hijinks.

And here's a quick clip of the COMP-3a on acoustic guitar. https%3A//soundcloud.com/fir_out/acoustic-guitar-dryhttps%3A//soundcloud.com/fir_out/acoustic-guitar-comp-3aLa3a is the best on acoustic IMO, and it's doing a bit of the La3a thing, what's most noticeable is a lot of the bottom is swiped out of there? a cooler thing i noticed is between 16-17 secs in, you do this finger slide/string noise thing that stutters in perfect time and it's grooving it ass off, one of those magic moments prob never to be repeated 8) Nice playing R!

And here's some bass. https%3A//soundcloud.com/fir_out/bass-dryhttps%3A//soundcloud.com/fir_out/bass-comp-3asame thing here on the bottom, it's taking away too much hit, so I think it's the wrong comp for this groove(nice groove btw 8), but it would sound buttery in other cases for sure.

Thanks. This was real quick and dirty. In headphones (cause my baby boy is napping above me) so I couldn't even really judge it that well, just though I'd at least post something of what the thing sounds like. I just printed the compression, RMS matched and posted it.

Yeah I don't doubt it. I couldn't listen on the monitors. And I was making sure to hit it hard enough to be pronounced so as to hear the effect. Neither the bass nor acoustic really needs that much squishing.

It's got the big 4, input/output/autoformer/T4B in there, it could be modded to another level pretty easily it looks to me, dandeurloo what do you think?

Here's something interesting Warren at ZenPro told me:
"We really like it. The IGS T4BX cell (respected as a replacement) got its ass whupped by the one in the Comp3A. We were really surprised by that, the GA stock cell had that leveling effect while remaining open sounding. The IGS by comparison had higher distortion and clamped down and made things sound smaller."
