Oz has just finished its summer so the virus is not expected to peak until our winter really hits which is June July. Lots of people have already lost there jobs. Govt has stepped into to provide a “living wage” for those. All borders are closed to non essential travel. My sister has just left after 20 years of marriage - domestic violence so with all this going on and the emotional support that it is needed, it is very tiresome, but we still have our health. and i luckily work for the govt and am considered part of the essential service - the Postal network - so i count myself and the family very fortunate. We have been able to help out some friends with groceries and the odd cash donation so hey if anyone really gets stuck shoot me a paypal request and a meal is coming your way. I'm fine foodwise, just drink a bottle of good stout for me, willya?

The only time I drink (a little), is when I'm dating.(left to my own a clear soda or lemonade) Or one beer "with the Chess Guys", on a nerdy Chess night. Oh the old days... Chris

Chris US brewmasters tend to think that the more hops the better, which is a sign that the brewing craft in this country* is still in an "adolescent" phase. The current fad for IPA style brew is a major symptom of this. IPA was NOT originally developed to taste good - the excessive hops content was added because hops are a preservative and the more conventional English brews at the time would spoil in the high heat of India - if they managed to survive the journey by sea. So the Brit brewmasters developed "India Pale Ale", which would keep in the Indian environment.
I prefer my brews to not taste excessively of preservatives, even natural ones. Needless to say, I don't drink that much beer in America. Most is either over-hopped or tastes like piss. However I do love a good English style stout.
* - EDIT: Or perhaps the taste of the US beer drinking community - Me, I got spoiled touring in England.

You should have seen the Back of my SUV last time I made a Trip up to Minneapolis from KC! I had to drive across the St Croix to Hudson WI to a Liquor Store that was right in the middle of the area where all the sailboat docks are. Filled the Whole back with Spotted Cow and Belgium Red, plus some Various Capital and Point. We then went to a Grocery Store and filled up coolers with Cheese and Brats plus some Ursinger Bacon! Ever seen a 10 lbs bag of Cheese Curds?

Don't know this beer you've mentioned, but I'd be interested to try.

Where in WI did you live? At first Madison, and later just outside the city in a small town called Oregon. I was pretty sad leaving there, actually. Moving to southern Ohio was a huge culture shock. But I've never had the chance to visit Madison again. Still would like to.

I lived less than a block from the capital for a year! Sold a bunch of gear to the Oregon school district in the 90’s!

New Glarus made one of my top 5 beers of all time.
It was called Olde World Porter. It was a sour porter and it was BONKERS good!

All this talk about beer I can't drink is making me want a Yuengling. That’s what happens when you live in the world of Shiner Bach! Don't you mean "Shiner Bock"?
"Bach" refers to a family of dead composers. "Bock" refers (properly) to the beer at the bottom of the fermenting barrel that has been fermenting/ageing longer than the regular lager beer higher in the barrel. That makes it darker in color, stronger, and more flavorful, as well as slightly sweeter.
Traditionally Bock beer only was produced once a year in wintertime, when the fermenting barrels were drained and cleaned, but some modern brewers produce a "bock" style beer on a more consistant basis.
There are several different styles of traditional bock, including one that holds the world record for alcoholic content in beer at 57% (not a misprint.)
Shiner Bock is rather weak as Bock beers go, BTW...

I still don't think I'd want to drink a "Bach"...
