Alice Coltrane - Ptah, The El Daoud on recommendation from my brother, really wonderful
revisiting Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf this is my main inspiration lately for guitar tones
A little bit of Cream, Jeff Beck, and Zep to get in the vintage fuzz zone

My wife signed onto Amazon prime so that’s where I check stuff out. And there’s a Zappa Album, apostrophe. So for me this week that’s my new album and it’s I just looked..1974. Wow.. for some reason sounds 1984 to me. Pretty incredible album, puts me in a good mood.

I was listening to playback again . . . but ears need a break, so now the dog is snoring. She seems happy

There’s a newer country song by John Pardi called “She Ain’t In It.” Love the writing - unapologetically Country and crafted so well - and the mix is really good too.

The Eagles: I Can't Tell You Why. Minimal arrangement. Lots of space and air. An absolute fav. So beautiful. Yep. I'm not one to say "they just don't make em like that anymore", but that song may be an exception. Good luck trying to find a virtual Rhodes that sounds like the one Frey played. I love how Henley plays a tom instead of a snare to get a fat/low contrast with Schmidt's tenor voice. A total band collaboration at the peak of their power.

I'd put money on Frey&Co not touring with a Rhodes post 94 reunion...because that kind of simple Rhodes part--you can get well from anything. Joe Sample, he ain't.

Then maybe it's tape saturation, because it doesn't have any of that tinkly bell like sound.

Those are later Rhodes that got tinkly...and it sounds like a (mk1)suitcase, which means it's amp'd and mic'd...which even when it IS a belly sound diminishes that.
I sat down an had it on Scarbee's 88 in minutes--all I had to dial from my normal Suitcase preset was the Phaser, because I don't ever use that...

Not really sure I get the hate for a real country song. I would challenge any of you to sit down and write something that simple and well crafted. It’s not easy.

Sorry I guess my comment looks like sarcasm. I thought it was a pretty good song, really surprised at the amount of views. To me that’s a VERY positive sign, meaning there’s a huge base out there missing this kind of music. Just for fun I looked up some Flaming Lips videos recently.. published on YouTube many years ago now., very well done video, fine mix.. barely at 100k views: to me that means not a very good sign for opportunity for success in that genre. They are a top name in.. whatever they are.. and not a lot of demand it seems. This though, huge massive demand for an actual well written non-perverted love song honestly.

I like that song John. I think it's really well done and well written. Not too hokey, not fake, although the video looks like a vogue photographer's version of a ranch. I think his voice is just a little lightweight. The material is top notch though and the production's good.I'm a sucker for a baritone guitar since Glen Campbell used it.

It's nice to see Haley has finally found kindred collaborators..... Her last was nicer in a kind muso way ....but, that slipped by my radar--so, consider both. Man that girl can rasp. Other than that....the recent HD release of the Eagles Long Road Out of Eden has got me realizing how much that's kind of been my sonic benchmark for modern recordings since 2007. I've had the vinyl....but, I think the HD192 is likely the best version that's been released. It's funny to put on the HD of that title track and here what sounds like my Kronos Wurli program....and pull up my default SD3 kit and other than it having a higher tuned Ludwig'y snare--basically, that's my kit I built. I just got so "over" the high tuned snares after the 90s, where that's all I heard and produced. I can see I've probably err'd on the other side now, but that's ok. I just put down the last drum tracks for this project--it's ok to work up a new kit now. Janell Monae finally connected with me....Dirty Computer, and now I've gone back to the robot concept album....Madison Cunningham has gotten some spins....there's a new Michael McDermott....new Jonah Brooke EP (Imposter)....and a new Donnie Vie record that was done in HD.... But, a lot of time has been with the David Crosby "extinction burst"--really stunning. He's moving at such a clip....for obvious reasons--but, that's inspiring. If you told me I was on borrowed time (as if I'm not)....I'd more likely go "fuck it" than find collaborators to just make some of the most masterful work of his life. Haley is the niece (through marriage) of the noted Barbershop Harmony Tenor, Fred Eastman (now in his early 90's). Fred was the President of our local Chapter, South Coast Harmonizers. I remember how proud he was of her! I'm also on good terms with Adam Lasher (Carlos & Jorge Santana's nephew!), who sang duets with Haley on AI. Adam finished around #15 that Season BTW. He has a teriffic voice too. It's even better than when he was on the show. Chris

Nice job. I suspect tape would have gotten you even closer to Frey's Rhodes sound.

That last album was seriously boring. Thought Southeastern was special...but it’s not popular music. I don’t always want to hear Tom Waites or John Coltrane.

I don’t love the last studio one either. Good, but not the couple that came before. I don’t have the recent live one. Cheers, Geoff

IMO, they get better. I liked Something More than Free more than Southestern.....and The Nashville Sound more than Something....so, I guess YMMV. There was a live EP cut to tape down the road at Welcome to 1979--I think maybe all covers? That, I could kind of take or leave....and there was a full live record from the Ryman--which I was there, but didn't like the Live recording of it at all. Obviously YMMV.

I'm a sucker for a baritone guitar since Glen Campbell used it. Does it get any better than Wichita lineman? not sure there's a correct answer there.
