I’m not sure if this is the direction you want this thread to go, if not, I can edit this crap out. Lately, I’ve been listening to: AA Bondy - Enderness I dig the back half of the album best Lucy Silvas - E.G.O. John Mellencamp - No Better Than This JT - 20/20 Experience Khalid - Free Spirit Neil Young - On The Beach Pretty much illustrates where it should go, really. Finding it cool the completely random spectrum of tunes/artists that everyone's covering. Makes all the advice/perspectives given here more relevant. Not contained to one type of music or approach, IMO.

Just tonight went on a little Jim Campilongo youtube dive. The Dean of dissonance. Yet melodic too. I’m also a Telecaster nut, so there's that too.
Cheers, Geoff

I’ve been super into Joe Henry lately. Just keep going from record to record and jumping around, I always find something new and interesting to listen to in his arrangements. The guy also turns a hell of a phrase. Started diving into some of his stuff based on this post. I've heard the name a hundred times, but never listened. "Tiny Voices" is really really good.

Yeah for sure - a personal favorite. He surrounds himself with the most badass musicians and engineering crew so there is always something new to discover for me.

Ah, man you guys spin some great artists!
I don't have everything from Joe Henry, but he's a touchstone artist for me. Love "Fireman's Wedding," "Trampoline" and "Don't Tell Me." He did a movie with friends of mine in the band Over The Rhine.

“Du bist so symmetrisch” by Klaus Johann Grobe. The bass and drums are so punchy.
“Reel to Reel” by Love. I don’t know why it took me so long to listen to 70’s Love albums. I would kill to record something as cool as “Be Thankful for What You Got”.

Klaus Johann Grobe has the advantage of an electro tool set with those drum and bass sounds. I love my Oberheim DMX, nothing comes close to it for that sound. Etienne De Crecy has some cool studio videos for crafting drum and bass sounds like this.

I’m sure there’s some sample stuff going on with the drums but the bass sounds like a P bass or mustang to me on most of the tracks. Maybe he’s doubling it with a synth for more low end?

On the Beach! So good. Have you read “Shakey” great tidbits on the making of that record. I had a rental car with Sirius earlier this week: Toggled between Tom Petty Radio, Willie’s Roadhouse, Outlaw Country, Lithium, and XMU all day long. Each of those stations was decent but consistently annoyed me. Back to streaming and NPR... Also been listening to a lot of Sean Haye’s back catalog as I am pitching in on his new album. Indeed I have. Like most books I read, I bought it.
Looking forward to getting a new Rav 4 this month - my first vehicle with Sirius!

Jimmy Reed - ABC of the Blues vol. 37 Darkthrone - Under a Funeral Moon <chuckle> I don't really need to listen to Jimmy Reed anymore - it's burned into my memory. I saw him at Berkeley's Longbranch about a month before he died.....

I have a new song in my head, so t's running over all the other music I listen to. Last week it was Ryan Adams' Cold Roses, Handel's Water Music.

I saw him at Berkeley's Longbranch about a month before he died..... I just read that he was a severe alcoholic and also mostly illiterate. Wow, I could tell there was something about him but I couldn't tell what it was just from the music.

Of course! I wasn't meaning to be disparaging at all, something about his music just made me assume he had a dark side. I guess he's a classic blues artist so maybe it's part of the blessing/curse / deal with the devil.
