When Jimmy Reed was asked at Vee -Jay... "Have you written any songs?" Jimmy said "No, but I can play some". Most of his songs were co-written with "Mama Reed"-his wife. Jimmy made an effort, in the 70's, to escape the alcoholism. But he died in 1976, after a Grand Mal Seizure. (he had epilepsy BTW) Chris

Also starting to re-listen to Melanie (Safka) and Sandy Denny of Fairport. Melanie has done some tremendous covers, like "Ruby Tuesday".
Of course, Sandy singing a song like "Who Knows Where The Time Goes"... Is beyond sublime. Chris

Nick Lowe - Nick The Knife. It’s got a few misses but the middle of the record (“Queen of Shiba” through “Too Many Teardrops”) are classic Nick Lowe. Always love his productions, I never really understand how he gets some of the sounds on his early stuff and the record he did with Elvis Costello.

Zappa is cool..
A friend worked for him here in Germany for Yellow Shark. He told me that Zappa was a nice person, down to earth.

The Eagles: I Can't Tell You Why.
Minimal arrangement. Lots of space and air.

On the Beach! So good. Have you read “Shakey” great tidbits on the making of that record. I had a rental car with Sirius earlier this week: Toggled between Tom Petty Radio, Willie’s Roadhouse, Outlaw Country, Lithium, and XMU all day long. Each of those stations was decent but consistently annoyed me. Back to streaming and NPR... Also been listening to a lot of Sean Haye’s back catalog as I am pitching in on his new album. Thanks! I will check out “Shakey”. I learned about the making of that record from the Cocaine & Rhinestones podcast on the Kershaw brothers. That record has such a vibe. Listened to the podcast. Soooo good. Thanks for the recommendation. Love the Rusty and Doug harmonies.

It's nice to see Haley has finally found kindred collaborators.....
Her last was nicer in a kind muso way
....but, that slipped by my radar--so, consider both. Man that girl can rasp.
Other than that....the recent HD release of the Eagles Long Road Out of Eden has got me realizing how much that's kind of been my sonic benchmark for modern recordings since 2007. I've had the vinyl....but, I think the HD192 is likely the best version that's been released. It's funny to put on the HD of that title track and here what sounds like my Kronos Wurli program....and pull up my default SD3 kit and other than it having a higher tuned Ludwig'y snare--basically, that's my kit I built. I just got so "over" the high tuned snares after the 90s, where that's all I heard and produced. I can see I've probably err'd on the other side now, but that's ok. I just put down the last drum tracks for this project--it's ok to work up a new kit now.
Janell Monae finally connected with me....Dirty Computer, and now I've gone back to the robot concept album....Madison Cunningham has gotten some spins....there's a new Michael McDermott....new Jonah Brooke EP (Imposter)....and a new Donnie Vie record that was done in HD....
But, a lot of time has been with the David Crosby "extinction burst"--really stunning. He's moving at such a clip....for obvious reasons--but, that's inspiring. If you told me I was on borrowed time (as if I'm not)....I'd more likely go "fuck it" than find collaborators to just make some of the most masterful work of his life.
