I’ve got a Danelectro 12 string that I got for like $80. Not huge into the electric 12 sound, but if you pull off the 3 Normal EAD strings it turns it into a different flavor.
I know it’s not an acoustic but it’s a great layer.
I’ve tried it with the baby Taylor. Save your money those things don’t stay in tune and are pretty worthless unless it’s for a kiddo or you’re hiking the AT

No compressor is worth that much. Not a single one. Especially with the BS pots they put on their gear. I’ll never understand that. That comp sounds fantastic, but if you look at it wrong the knobs will jump around. Trying to do a recall on a piece of tube tech gear used to drive me absolutely nuts. Also - turning those knobs makes the piece feel absolutely cheap IMO.

We went with a nice Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley with dinner last night and wow.... I almost forgot how delicious it could be. The month off actually made me appreciate it more.

Just used it the other day and it sounds great! Love the simplicity. Curious. I've had a real vintage one in pristine condition offered to me for $400 this week. Hah snap it up! The weight of those things gets kinda old after a while though. Throw in the cost of a good set of vintage tubes, the fan always running.... I’d be happy to not deal with one again. I still have my damn 8x10 that I always kept in seriously good condition from the old road days. They aren’t worth didly on the used market - so it sits.

Depends on how heavy the guitars are. I love my Barefoot 01’s, but have listened to more heavy rock that my friends work on and the mids are just too harsh for me to listen to on them.
Granted I don’t really listen to heavy music... but we all agreed.

Man... I used to love doing recalls as an intern and then an assistant. Got to go up into the big room and see what the engineer was using on what, see what settings they had on their gear, MAYBE ask a few questions if the vibe in the room was right and things were winding down. Years of doing that led me to be able to recall a 72 channel SSL and 40 insert points worth of outboard gear in about an hour if I was really moving.
Makes my recall of like 8 pieces of outboard in my room childs play now haha.

I don’t mind crappy music. I’ve sat through plenty of sessions where I had absolutely no interest in the music but always found something I could learn or take away from the situation.
I do however mind crappy music and crappy musicians that think they can do your job better than you can, or who treat you like a button pusher and stand over your shoulder telling you what to do. I’ll take that from an experienced producer any day, just not from Joe Schmo.

That's what I tried to illustrate in the chart, but I apparently did very poorly. But if there's a "phase" switch on a mic preamp that actually time shifts a signal, I haven't run across it yet. Don't get me started on vibrato vs tremolo... The majority of that misunderstanding can probably be attributed to Leo Fender.

You’ve also got to consider that the chart shown works great with a sine wav, but once you move away from that these things are frequency dependent. As always, use your ears. Nudging tracks around in the daw on a harmonically rich instrument with lots of microphones can lead to some really messy results.

So - I’ve been lucky enough to work in a studio for years and years with 2 fantastic examples of original c12’s.
And I’ll be honest - they were never my first pick for anything.
Can anybody hip me to the main differences between a c12 and the 251? My understanding is they are pretty similar, but I’ve never experienced a 251 in the wild (I have used a Bock 251 which I thought was a fantastic mic, but I couldn’t say if that was in the same realm as a real example)

I once had a guy with a set budget for an album, he was gonna cut whatever corners to hit that mark. Turned out most of the musicians were his students, most could barely play. Except the quartet of symphony players he paid to come in. He handed them charts....they played....the charts were wrong..... He hit his budget mark and stopped...then he put it out, just like it was. If ida known.... ...as you can guess, he made sure to let me know later he'd found a better cheaper studio that knew how to record more as he liked it....just amazing. Sounds like a win- win for both of you!

All you can do is tell them, unless you want to fire them as clients! I did that twice this week. Amateur hour is not where I want to be. Take the vanity projects elsewhere, and leave me be. The price for doing stuff like that is just far too high in the long run. JMHO YMMV I had a similar situation where I was told the studio and my rate together cost too much. Okay... at the same time the one man band fella would never come to the studio prepared. I laid out the plan that he needed to have his parts and amp tones dialed before he came to record - and hey guess what, he never did! It would always turn into a noodling session which I absolutely abhor. I would suggest session players to play drums, bass, perc, keys, etc. but they always “cost too much”. So he’d get local dudes to come in and hack away at parts that I’d eventually have to sit around and fix for hours on end until they were to his liking. One day he texts me that he found a studio that was less than half what I was charging. I think he was expecting me to cut my rate in half. Instead I said “okay great!” And send him his hard drive. I don’t have the want or the time for that nonsense. It wasn’t exactly Dark Side of the Moon either haha

I didn’t realize the link was the song title...
Nice playing man sounds great! How are you getting along with the instrument? Intonation sounds spot on!

Some businesses have suffered and some have grown. I also have a business and I was also looking for a way out of the situation. I started doing e-marketing (posting ads on the Internet, mostly on social networks). I also do SMS marketing - for this you should research US business phone numbers. It really helped my business grow ...huh?

I don’t see any of the links showing up wiz...
I got one about 10 years ago with the intention of learning how to play it really well...
Welp - turns out I never really had to time to invest into it as I was/am so busy with ..life, work, family, etc
Mine is a 3 pedal, 4 knee lever one that kick my ass every time I sit down behind it, but it’s still massively fun and I’ve gotten to play on a few records on it which is always fun.
Seriously cool instrument!

V610’s inbound, should be here Saturday. Awesome -I love the originals. I should have gobbled a bunch of them up when they were cheap. Alas I was a lowly intern with no money 🤦🏻♂️

I think they’ve nailed the 2254. It sounds and behaves like the real pair we had at the studio that I honestly never liked and thought they turned everything to mush.
I think they are missing like 15% off the 33609 though. Maybe it’s because they modeled the C and the ones I’ve used are the originals.

Navy Grog is great if I’m in a Tiki sort of mood in the summer.
My favorite Rum drink is the Pain Killer though!
1 part orange juice 1 part cream de coco 4 parts pineapple juice Mix it up, pour over ice with as much rum as you desire (Pussers Rum is the “classic” one to use)
I usually make up a giant jug of this stuff at summer parties and it always goes over well
Pro tip - that cream de coco will sort of separate in the can and have a thick layer on top. You gotta dump the entire contents out and mix it up in a bowl with a wire wisk of sorts or it won’t turn out right!

Just saw myself in a doc that one of my clients did about his album...and I’ve GOT to lose weight. Do it! Cut drinking for the month, cut out half your carbs and take about 1/3rd of what you eat off your plate. That’s gonna go a long way to helping you out. When you go for a snack, just think to yourself.. would I eat a banana right now? If the answer is no, then do 10 sit ups and step away from the kitchen.

I like the Morning Glory album but that’s really all I know. That hit for me at an age where I thought it was super cool. I still really dig the songs... record sounds awful though. Ear piercing!
I have no shame saying Harry Styles is frigin awesome. Love his two records and it’s one of the ones the wife and I can throw on and both rock out to.

You want spaced omni for that job. I’ll second this. I love using a pair of CMC6 with the Omni capsules. Plus if you get the cardioid caps with it you’ll have a really nice set of mics. I’m strapped for time but I’ll post some songs of different genres I’ve recorded on the same piano with a variety of players later for you to peruse.

Welcome to RGO, impressive sounding mic, the best Advice I can give is to get a demo in to the hands of JK or Vincent. We all know there voices and Vincent’s wife’s well enough at this point to judge it quickly and frankly both offer a degree of vocal talent that you would be hard to beat. Actually if the mic is as good as your clips getting a Demo in the hands of the majority of the talent here is a no brainer and a great way to sell a bunch of mics. I think back to all of the multi-day mic demos I did 20 years ago at Full Compass and how LDC’s have multipled like bunnies and my head spins. These days it’s hard to establish a new brand of mics. There are just to many options and all the rebranded generic Chinese condensers with pretty paint jobs don’t make it any easier. Best of luck. As a general rule, I dislike mics with "pretty paint". Mics shouild be grey, siver, or black (or sometimes brown...). That'a not to say that there are no good mics with bright colors, just that I won't be ordering them. Didn’t you win a really nice mic with a pretty paint job on this site? It’s just soooo much easier to be positive than it is to be negative. Wishing you a happy and healthy ‘21, John.
