Is there any place besides this thread where we can get all the NAMM new releases that interest us? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I mean, there is some NAMM coverage in many sites, but the smaller/boutique/indie stuff goes unnoticed. I love how Premier Guitar does in-depth coverage of guitar stuff, I wish there was something similar for studio gear. Or maybe there is?

All I will add is that in my studio the difference hasn’t been subtle. It’s a fantastic tool that makes your job easier. I’ll echo drbill’s words.

I’m sure it’s a fine mic but after using the real thing for a few months now, and comparing it to some of its closest clones, there’s just no comparison.
The KM84 is like cheating. You can point it carelessly to any acoustic instrument and what you get sounds like a record already. Leakage always sounds good. I can’t believe Neumann won’t reissue it. Maybe they will!

Yeah, mind blowing. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I'll have to take a look back, though after NAMM, packing today. There will be another comparison video in a couple weeks, this time a different drum track vs the vintage U87, U47 FET etc...1:1 single mic on source. We'll also do some acoustic gtr and vocals etc... Indeed! I'm just trying to figure out how many mics I need/can afford. Those drums sound excellent. I think I need to start working on my Glyn Johns technique...

This 1 min vid features a drums, bass and guitar track recorded using TG Microphones; no additional processing Wow. How many mics on the drums and where? What mic settings?

We are not known for plugging in our stuff in threads, but we have a perfect solution for this kind of shock mount. We will be announcing it at NAMM. Stay tuned... I’m buying it sight unseen then! Will get in touch. Maybe I’ll add some mics to my order ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Never done it myself, but how about triggering non-drum samples along with kick and/or snare tracks? I know I've heard it on recordings. That’s a brilliant idea! I could use Logic’s convert to MIDI feature and trigger anything. I know I’ve heard it on recordings too.

Sansamp plug in is another good one for this. I have a hardware unit, must try that!!!

At this point all I need to know is... how many do I need? And how many can I buy? And when? Awesome! You can order now, expect shipping a week or two after NAMM. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I guess I’ll start with one! I’m in Spain, any preferred dealer? I tend to order from the UK anyway...

I was really impressed with the TG. It is a little disorienting how much huge-er it sounds and how nasal it makes the Neumanns sound. Can’t decide if I’d love that size or fight against it all the time. I'm in the same boat. However, sometimes more IS more! On that video, the TG sounds to me like a guitar amp. The other mics sound like a mic in a room in front of a guitar amp.

I don’t have high end stands, but I have what I think is a good enough solution. I had them custom built from solid wood, filled with sand, and put in place with Blu-Tak. On top of the stands I have Primacoustic recoils. It’s all rock solid to me.

Useful video here:
I’m getting a demo of the three LDC in a few weeks from their Spanish dealer.

So, is it a must buy? I’m afraid it might be the case...

Would one of the Rycote’s work? Supposedly it’s 3mm too wide for the big one, and way too thin...

I have a JZ Vintage 67 that I love. It's very oddly shaped (185x71x30mm), kinda like a flask. You can see it here:
The problem is that I haven't found a way to shockmount it, and it's prone to rumble, especially if you get close to it. It's supposed to have some internal shockmount, but while the design idea is good, it simply doesn't work. I found this video that shows how the mic is made, including the internal shockmount:
Any ideas? For any kludges I've been able to think of, the XLR cable always gets in the way. The latest I tried: mount the mic on a short boom and try to hold that boom inside a Rycote USM-L. It kinda sorta worked but the whole contraption ended up at an ugly angle.

So - did anyone try the stereo version? I love my Avantone CK40. If this was "the same but better" I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Also intrigued by the rest of the line.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Decimort was a surprise, if someone requests that specific NIN/electronic-y sound I'll buy it on the spot.
On a whim, I got a very cheap Shure M267 4-channel mic mixer with limiter. I know it might suck, but it might be fun and it looks cool. Also, being battery operated, it might come in handy someday...

I'm in Spain so I wouldn't mind hopping on a plane and demo them in person at Funky Junk ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I suppose I can get a dealer in Spain to arrange something, but I think it's the kind of item that's not regularly in stock over here...

Try Soundtoys Devil-loc Deluxe. I knew I should have bought it when it was on sale! Good suggestions, I need to demo those plugins. And reamp some drums through my Twin Reverb!

"In an effort to make the iconic sound of the R44C more affordable, AEA incorporated more cost effective exterior components that don’t compromise build quality or durability. It delivers precisely the same sound as the R44C and retains most of the iconic visual elements of the original". Yes, it would make a lot of sense to demo a couple. I might need to make a trip to London for that though!
And still, I could get the R44C and their preamp for quite a bit less than the A440. Maybe that would be a good option...

Every now and then someone comes up with the same question: "Hey dude, can you take that drum track and turn it into some industrial sounding stuff?"
To me that usually means saturation and heavy compression, possibly with parallel processing but I'm never sure what to use.
Are there any tricks of the trade or go-to pieces/plugins that I should be aware of?

In the next few months I'm looking to invest into an AEA R44 microphone, and I'm not sure which is the right choice. Here's their page explaining the current line-up: www.aearibbonmics.com/the-44-series-5-versions-of-a-classic/I'd love to get the A440 (top of the line, painfully expensive, active, state-of-the-art). However, I could get the R44CE or the CXE, one of their ribbon preamps, and still save a LOT of money! Supposedly the sound of the mics is the same across the range. Ideas?
