I have a JZ Vintage 67 that I love. It's very oddly shaped (185x71x30mm), kinda like a flask. You can see it here:
The problem is that I haven't found a way to shockmount it, and it's prone to rumble, especially if you get close to it. It's supposed to have some internal shockmount, but while the design idea is good, it simply doesn't work. I found this video that shows how the mic is made, including the internal shockmount:
Any ideas? For any kludges I've been able to think of, the XLR cable always gets in the way. The latest I tried: mount the mic on a short boom and try to hold that boom inside a Rycote USM-L. It kinda sorta worked but the whole contraption ended up at an ugly angle.

Would one of the Rycote’s work?

Would one of the Rycote’s work? Supposedly it’s 3mm too wide for the big one, and way too thin...

Would one of the Rycote’s work? What's the width of the mic? Looking at that video, I doubt it. My Rycotes can't handle much past 2 1/4" in any direction. However, it looks like you could modify the Rycote by cutting away the two sections of the inner ring that house two of the screws, leaving it in two sections, and tie the struts to make up for lost support. That would give you about 4" inches of width to play with before you hit the outer ring. If you're queasy about only having two screws holding things in place, you could mount it upside-down so the cables save the mic in a slippage event. It's a hack for sure. I'm not sure I like it because the struts aren't really meant to 'support' things, but maybe there's a better way to mod it.

I'm doubtful you'll find a shockmount that works for that mic but you may be able to put something between the mic and the stand to absorb some of the vibration. It's a shot in the dark, but I'm wondering if a gooseneck might help. If you arch it to give it some spring, it might make a positive difference, and it would only cost you around $10 to find out.

Maybe add a piece of foam in the pins don't clamp tight enough. ..that was my first thought, but I assumed I have the big one and it wasn't big enough. If it fits the big one without two of the pins and no cutting, that would be optimal.

We are not known for plugging in our stuff in threads, but we have a perfect solution for this kind of shock mount. We will be announcing it at NAMM. Stay tuned...
