Hey, didn't you mention that you were getting a Ross Martin unit of some kind back in the other thread about them? If so, did it happen, and what are your thoughts? If I've got you mixed up with someone else - sorry! Cheers, Geoff Yeah I did get it . Its badass for sure ! I've never heard a DAC sound so clear . It makes the music sound very solid and real . I haven't tried the A/D but I bet all of Ross's converters are the best you can buy . Just be ready to wait like 3 months without any word from Ross and when your about to give up and want your money back ....it will show up at the front door . But its worth the wait . Crazy cheap price for the best DAC .

Oh yeah , I got the one with USB and headphone jack . I recommend getting that one . The USB lets you plug it right into your computer , no software required , and you can start listening to music through it . I'm using windows XP and it recognizes the DAC right when I plug it in . Then it also has S/PDIF , so I can hook it up to my Digi 002r and use it as my D/A converters for Mixing .

OK, i just want to come back with a few months of experience with the DAs we got from RM. All my ad hoc impressions with the rave about the clearness and sonical balance turned out to be...ongoing. We don't discuss converters anymore. They are just there. There is nothing left open. We don't miss anything. Great units. If they would break, we would get excactly the same again. Just wanted to report back.... Best regards, Martin

I assume the 1794a 1794 and 1794 Ultimate dac is the same thing? A bit confusing but I ordered a 1794a Hope I got the right one.

I don't have one, but I know a lot of really big name converters share chips for multiple tracks, and also use shit surface mount caps that sound BAD, the multi channel burdening of a chip can and does limit DR, headroom and noise floor specs, i believe the super beast uses the state of the art singular chip to track array, and also uses top of the line audio grade electronic components, the thing looks awesome on paper, and if you consider the reputation of Jim Williams and his passion for slew free transparent hifi speed, this thing HAS to be amazing at capturing and putting out exactly what you put in?

Hopefully in the next few weeks I should be able to test it out, once mine arrives. I have two mixing project that I want to try it out on... hopefully it comes before the client is ready.

Does he have an AD/DA all in one box? It looks to me like the answer is no, but then again, there's stuff on his website that I'm not sure exactly what it is.
Can I ask a connectivity question here? My current interface is an Echo Audiofire 8. Decent, but prosumer. For my purposes, its fine. But, for the once a year I track a band, a couple more converters on the way in would be handy. And, come mix, the Echo has some limitations that I'd like to try and get around. It lacks a dedicated, separate stereo out. So, outs 1 and 2 are for the main stereo outs, leaving 3 to 8 for patching hardware in. A lot of times I am wishing I had a couple more outs available. Also, the Echo has digital ins via spdif and Adat. Currently I have my Kurzweil reverb hooked up to the spdif connection. I don't think I can use the spdif and Adat together - it's one or the other. There is also a word clock in and out and firewire connections. Basically, is there a way to hook up the Martin DAC with the Echo that wouldn't sacrifice the spdif connection. I don't see firewire offered on the RM stuff, but maybe its available?
Cheers, Geoff

I missed that, Ross Martin has a converter called The Superbeast, and it's an A/D - D/A device?, now I'm getting interested. Is this used as the main clock?

No, he doesn't have a AD/DA in one channel. I asked about that and he said that he doesn't.
I have 2 units coming. One is a the 2 Channel AD and the other is the 2 Channel DA. I already know I will hate the look of them so I may look at seeing what it would take to put the guts in 1 box if they sound great.
If they sound great, I am thinking of a 32 channels of them!

Whoa, 32 channels? Yikes.
I'm really looking forward to hearing your impressions dandeurloo. I've been curious about how a Ross Martin A/D-D/A might compare to some other solutions like Emotiva and Burl.

I stand corrected, I could've sworn the super beast was AD/DA? Martin John Butler get some of these, and a pair of missing links, and that chain will be as good as it gets, and dare I say( flame on lol) MORE versatile than a burl, sorry burl guys, id love to see a shootout(where the burls hotter transformer bias was accounted for), I'd bet the farm that a ML/RM combo would out do it? did littlesicily ever have the burl?

Nope, never tried the burl. Not really interested. I'm quite content with the RM.

But hey, could be better. And believe me, I certainly hope it is. The ole Burl would be gone in a second to fatten up the old wallet. On a side note, I e-mailed ross and got a reply from Mabry? Don't know who that is but I'm still confused. The e-mail said the difference was 142 dollars from what I ordered to the super beast. Thing is, I don't see anything on his website that even says super beast. Yet again, I'm confused. We need someone who knows what's going on to set us straight here. I want the best one he's got but I have no idea what to ask for.
