I use an old pair of auratones instead of the box.
I'd say mix wise personally 80% auratone / 20% Barefeet (mm45), plus headphones these days.
Recording, the other way around.

I see some used ATC SCM20ASL‘s for sale. Just wondering whether they would be a tangible step up from my 12s.

I’d eventually like to try a pair in my space, compare them with my Atomic SixTens. I might try to hire a consultant to dial my room in better so I’m getting the most out of these monitors.

I would be curious to know how the SixTens compare. If I’m not mistaken they use a similar tweeter and both have onboard hypex amps. I think the SixTen has a larger mid driver and just one LF driver right?

Avantone's / MM45's on my end, but 100% the same approach when mixing.

This thread was a reminder that I can actually change the profile on the Barefoots. That’s a good indicator of how much I’ve actually used the feature. I’m plenty happy with how the Footprints sound in the stock profile.I do have a pair of auratones so I haven’t felt the need to use the emulation.

Just took the leap. Boy, they DO NOT lack bottom end. No sub needed. Better stereo image than the ATC’s and certainly much better bottom end (the ATCs needed a sub) but the ATCs sounded great with the sub. Seem to have more top end and def more mids. They’re beautiful, but I can see how they might not appeal to some. I’ll keep them for a while to see.

I’ve just played around for several hours. Set them up with Sonarworks. They have more mid clarity than the ATCs...but those weren’t three ways of course. I’m going to have to mix on them to really be able to tell...but they’re the first monitors that I’ve bought in this price range that absolutely doesn’t need a sub.

I have the Barefoot Footprints for a month now and really like them. I have tested PMC Result6, Amphion one 18 and my old KRK Exposé, measured with REW and the Barefoots won in my room. You have to let them play for about 48 hours, to break in. I have a small room(heavy treated with bass traps) and still of course bass problems and with Barefoots I got the best results. The sound opened up, and I could here everything better, more room in the mids, because there was no fighting with te lows.
Best regards,
Peter

They sounded great, though. I ultimately wanted to get out of the need for a sub and an external power amp.

svart was/is right, they’re definitely forward in the middle...or maybe it’s not that they’re specifically forward, they’re just not very forgiving there. Which is ashamed, because they’re killer everywhere else. I mean, it’s something I could live with, but I’ve found it a little fatiguing. Not really sure what the other options are in that price range, though. I love the idea of active and no sub. Wish I could afford the ATC 25’s.

Btw - I’m using the floor models (that we’re hooked up) so I doubt they’ve had much of any burn in. Although I’ve heard BF says they don’t need burn in. Anyway, he was ordering a new pair for me...but didn’t know where the meme hookup thing was. I assume if that’s not hooked up, they remain in “Flat” mode, wouldn’t you think?

They are flat if you don’t hook it up. They are seriously mid heavy. I dig it a lot and reminds me of the kids of 10’s but with nice highs and serious lows. I can understand why some wouldn’t like it.

I actually bought the Dangerous Convert 2 and it should be here either Sat or next week ish. I made a low offer on reverb and the guy took it.

Now repeat after me no speaker can do it all !! That’s why I own more speakers than I have fingers ! You grab 25’s and you will want 50’s !

I went from Barefoot MM27 to Focal Twins 6BE(with an Adam Sub10) and they were a much better fit for me. Not fatiguing at all.

I’m going to go pick up some Amphions One 18s today (hopefully) to compre in the same room. I’ll have a sub with them. I never had Sonarworks with the One 18s so I’m really curious.

The footprints make EVERYTHING sound better and are a pleasure to listen to music on.
Bare that in mind.

You ever audition the 15's? A while back and I thought they were actually punchier than the 18s. Might be the ticket. But I might get these side by side with the Barefoots and think the BF sound better. I have a feeling I’m going to hear the Amphions again and there won’t be a big enough difference to justify the Bf’s though.

First, I don’t think he’s selling them anymore and second, I bought from a dealer, so I’d Just exchange.
