In 6 years I’ve probably deleted 30 posts. Most were spam. If you got something deleted, It was probably for a good reason. Now I have a new goal, get John to delete a post 😁 Well, he did delete his recent 'How to tell people they're wrong,' post.

I didn’t devolve that thread (and if you remember) all I said was maybe you should listen to some reference tracks in your client’s environment to get an idea of what’s going on. But you obviously didn’t want to hear that!

I know it might be a shock, but it’s not all about you...the reason I deleted that thread had nothing to do with you or what you said.

So . . . not so strangely, a thread about GS has turned into a thread like you would see on GS .
For the record, I love this place for what is has been lo these past 6 years or however long we've been here. And I don't miss the daily interractions at Gearz one little bit.

I started to do internet recherche on gear topics with following recording newsgroups, and there already were quite some trolls underway, then stumbled upon these crazy people at recording.org's TechTalk forum. They were obsessed with sound and where it comes from, technically. They were so possessed by gear demons and mental, that I instantly wanted to be a part of it. ;-) Finding out about what makes good gear good gear, technically, in depth. It was a bit of what intelligent people did, when they were children: Trying to find out, what is in the stuff they like. People dissecting expensive audio transformers and making pictures of it reminded me of the bitter fate of one of my old teddy bears ... In short, I loved that place. Then a mod/the mod and admin wanted money from the forum members and held the personal messages (which sometimes contained trading data etc.) in captivity. The stuff became rude. Within one afternoon the forum members organized the exodus and a new place was found, which is GroupDIY up until today. With the intention of keeping things civil, rational, informative and spread technical knowledge respectfully. Then I found out about that purple place, where many of GDIY's members used to hang out, too. Got into heated or unreasonable discussions for a few times, and didn't post there after a while. Things were much more hostile over there and less reasonable, although it was a huge pile of information about gear hidden there, too, just a lot more work to find it... I guess I knew Jeff from GDIY, where he was a regular contributor, if I remember it correctly, and was aware of his excellent clone kits. (Well, possessed by sound demons ... ;-) ) The/a CAPI thread was moved into the "low end theory" subforum, and this started a heated discussion. People wrote one post, and after censorship there were -2 posts. Then people got banned for asking legitimate questions and John started this place as an alternative forum for civil behaviour and reasonable discussion and an overall friendly and helpful attitude, well, and gear ... I love this place because it is small, things are chilled most of the time, it is about topics, not about length of body parts, and a good mixture to bring technical knowledge, heaps of experience, a great diversity of people and great stories together. Friendly, helpful people interested in how to make things sound good. Although I am not as frequently around here, as I used to be, this is a place, where I like to read and post from time to time and feel good about it. Sure, if i do a recherche about a specific piece of gear, I stumble upon threads on GS regularly, and I go over and read, i just have a much harder time finding real information of value ... and I don't post over there, because I would have to deal with, you know, the body parts measurement stuff ...

One thing I do have to say in defense of Gearslutz is that they do send me a nice "Happy Birthday" message every year....

One thing I do have to say in defense of Gearslutz is that they do send me a nice "Happy Birthday" message every year.... ...haha, that is exactly what I thought! Seriously though...Gearslutz was awesome back in the "Mercenary Audio days". Was Flectcher the all-time audio engineering forum rock star? Man, those days. He really seemed to know his tuff and had a great sense of humor and lead me to checking out some cool gear like Gefell and Great River. Holger Lagerfeldt was one of my favorites. THAT guy is smart and is very generious sharing his edjucation w/everybody. I leanred a ton from that guy. He's like a role model. Let's not let the padawans win or take our focus away from how cool GS has been. I don't go there as much these days. I just got burned-out the same old "MJ used an sm7" type stuff. That said, I did get an infraction once from Sniperschool for a reason I can't recall...and I thought it was super lame how they treated Jeff. I noticed they changed the name of the "is the capi vp26 right for me" thread to "is the api vp26 right for me". And they started deleting my classifieds for some reason at some point a few years back too. All the stuff I sold was high end outboard mostly (just like the rest of us on the merry go round selling and buying). I've only been here a few days but I trolled here for a few years. This place is chill and less drama. Some awesome people here. A lot of the best from GS.

Mixerman might be putting more energy into writing, not sure. Is Slippy still in the biz? The others you mentioned? Cheers, Geoff

His wife is an Aussie citizen IIRC. I believe he's still on Farcebook if you know his real name (PM me.)

I think I remember his name. Can’t remember the name of the studio.
oz though? There’s no hockey there.
Hope he’s doing well. I couldn’t even find his brilliant recording heavy guitars screed after a quick search. The inter webs would be greatly diminished without that fine bit of prose.
Cheers, Geoff

There's no reason to obfuscate it given that he's posted his real name on GS in the past. www.gearslutz.com/board/showpost.php?p=9203261&postcount=10

Jakob Erland ("Gyraf") und Gustav Grinderslev ("PCB Grinder") are still in biz, selling finest boutique analog audio gear creations. I follow them on social media/FB and regularly see updates on new products and events, so I am pretty sure about this, if I did not miss anything lately ... on this board they are registered as gyraf and gustav.

Might not be a big deal for either John but, John E. and John K, got mentioned on a thread I started at GS...
To hopefully reduce the lack of respect, the less experienced members were showing to the more experienced.
Am exaggerating here, but stuff like "why get a U67, when you can get a cheap Chinese LDC instead". You know what I mean. (it got expanded more-of course. It's now in the "Forum Suggestion" forum (got moved).
FWIW I supported both John E. and John K., in the discussion thread-and Fletcher too. Chris
