I'm no longer a "deletion virgin" myself, but I realize now John made the right call, in that particular thread.
This place is much more like Mayberry, compared to the Big City. And John's a very kindly Sheriff! Chris

If it's "style of humor"... It'd probably be me. Well if John did appoint me to be his deputy, much further comedy would ensue!
My nickname from the kids I teach, is "Chess-median". We have to be careful having other teachers/classes near me, because "my kids" get so loud laughing! (true) But I've got the highest "return rate" of any teacher there, so they cut me some $lack. (One thing I discovered over the years, is that a group of kids, LOVE a kinder/gentler version of... Don Rickles!)
BTW towards the end of Don Knotts' life, he almost joined my Santa Monica chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Contrary to some of the Andy Griffith "singing episodes", Barney-Ahem-Don actually had a very nice Tenor voice.
I do consider Don Knotts, to be one of the genuine all time comic geniuses! And Andy, one of the best comic "straight men". Chris
EDIT: Hey I'm no longer a ex-virgin regarding deletions! John MOVED my rambling posts, to "Existential Lamentations"! Now I feel free to sprout some Tolle, Kerouac, and Mr. Rogers! (not necessarily in that order) Existential Lamentations, weren't they that 80's Hair-less Metal Band, that dropped out of Emerson?

In 6 years I’ve probably deleted 30 posts. Most were spam. If you got something deleted, It was probably for a good reason. Now I have a new goal, get John to delete a post 😁 Achievement unlocked.

If we can just get Fletcher to come out of semi-retirement, and put on a leather jacket... Chris I've thought about that a few times . . . but no, that's not going to happen. After Mercenary, Sound Pure, and the olive oil . . . just go visit his bar and have a drink with him. And if you don't know where that is, I can't help you.

I'll still poke my head in from time to time, but the things that drove me away:
1. "I've never heard/used a ______, but they're great and you would love it." or: "..... and they're better than <insert high-end piece here that the poster has clearly also never used>."
2. This response to almost any gear or technique inquiry: "The performance is what matters."
3. A fixture on the forum who is a known classical engineer, and if you don't agree with his opinions (always presented as irrefutable fact), he gets very abusive, childish, resorts to name-calling, and the mods seem to never notice.
Eventually I got RSI in my eyes from rolling them so much. So I guess it was that medical condition that caused me to leave.

I find this whole thread kinda humorous - cause I see most of the usual suspects that frequent here over there every day.

I find this whole thread kinda humorous - cause I see most of the usual suspects that frequent here over there every day. I check out the new posts here and read all the ones that are interesting to me. But this is a very small community still, I can read the posts of interest in a few minutes. If I have more time to spend, I check out the new posts in Gearslutz. It's a much larger community, so there are lots of posts on interesting subjects. The quality of posts there has gone down over the years. Some of their silly posters spend a lot of time chasing knowledgeable posters away, sort of what happened here with Steven Slate. If you're over 12 years old with any level of maturity, your bullshit meter should be pretty good, I just read the posts pertaining to interesting topics and try to assimilate them if there's anything useful and ignore them otherwise.

Yeah, plenty of BS there, no doubt. But the breadth of topic is MUCH wider. Music for film / media, post production, live sound, modular synths / electronica, hip hop, studio acoustics with pro's in attendance, etc.. Where you hang out has a lot to do with your perception of the place. Where I hang, there's no virtually no BS / trolling (it gets nuked quickly), well moderated, excellent communication and info and good industry contacts.

I find this whole thread kinda humorous - cause I see most of the usual suspects that frequent here over there every day. There aren't enough good sites (that I know of) these days, and I have too much time on my hands due to being forced out of SF into a small suburb over an hour's drive away.
So I spend way too much time arguing with trolls (shame on me) or answering questions that have already been answered on numerous other threads.
Since the closing of the Music Business forum I've spent most of my time there on the Guitar Forum, but the background noise and trolling is getting too much there. It's REALLY annoying.
