Well... here's another thread that's jumping the shark . . . what next? Extolling the virtues of Behringer? Oops... I said the 'B' word. I'll show myself out now. The new B word is BRICASTI From here on out Behringer shall be know as ULI’s crap!

Seems a little OTT for a home studio Nah, absolutely not. A studio should not -must not- ever stop growing.

Congrats shadowamd. How are you liking the ISK Little Gem? I'm thinking of getting one because I liked what I heard on upright bass in Omni. I'm curious how it might fare next to a classic like a KM-84. I hope to get a Soyuz 0-13 later this year, but figure the ISK can't hurt to have around. It's tricky deciding. Even though it's so inexpensive, I wonder if it's worth it, when I could put $50 toward something else I'm sure I want. If it's returnable, I'll probably try it.
Kcat and I once tried anSDC called "Little Blondies". The online files sounded pretty good, but they didn't cut it when I tried them at home.
*pretty cool gear list Matt !

Some people buy boats and jet skis, I buy pro audio gear. Five years into this madness, and I'm still learning how to mix and produce. In fact, I have a long way to go. It's madness, I tell you, madness!
A whipper snapper aye? I remember cutting tracks on a Tascam m520 (did I get that right)? Nearly twenty years ago, it's easy to confuse lack of experience with the operating limitations of the equipment in front of you. I could get by absolutely fine with far worse stuff, it's just as I've aged I appreciate the subtleties of specific options more than I ever have. Also I don't have bands popping in every now and again saying, oh we hired an orchestra to record and mix into a track..
Brown moment first time I did that.
I've formed preferences which at one point I was never that fussed about, nostalgia is an ass though it seems to contradict where to go next. I did umm and arr about geting another Trident or SSL desk, but reality creeps in and I don't want to deal with the overhead.
It is madness, very much so..
P.S Get off my lawn.!

Officially stick a spork in me, I'm done.. If I can't make good music with this lot, I should really just pack it in.! Seems a little OTT for a home studio, whatever..! If you knew how many times I have heard that line....

It's a lot better than the cheap AT Pro 37 I used, and that one was nearly twice the price I think, with no pattern select option. The ISK mics are sort of remarkable for what they cost, and compared to other things in that price bracket, that are you know, unusable.

I'll let you know when I've spent more time with them, I'll send you some recordings if you'd like.. By themselves I prefer them to the KM-84's (sound a bit sweeter), but the reason the likes of Neumann works so well is because they cut properly in a mix. If I can EQ them easily enough to complement the types of mixes we do (which is generally band / denser mixes) then we're on a winner.
If they don't work out I think I'll follow ragan's advice.

You know I was just joking right? Matt... MATTTT..! <Dramatic acting scene>. No worries at all. I removed my equipment list because I could see that it might be perceived that I was (unintentionally, but still) hi-jacking the thread. I understand that you were joking; we do a lot of that here, it's part of what I like about RGO.

Noooo.... that'll just remind me I had to sell all my gear last year Right now I'm using just the Stam SA73 and the Apollo 8. I've decided that mics are more important than any outboard, but I can't say having no outboard gear left hasn't affected that opinion
