Man, this Weiss plug sounds so freakin’ elegant. I’m demoing it right now and really want to like other plugs more... but I’m probably gonna have to shell out the dough and get it. It handles the high, harsh frequncies better than any plugin I’ve tried. It sound so much like Great mastering hardware. And the de-Esser and limiting/expanding opens up so many options. I’ve got plenty of limiters that get loud and do loud really well. But none that handle the audio as gracefully as this thing. Dang, I didn’t want to have to shell out the bucks for this, lol Sorry wallet.

Dang - I really liked the M/S compression on this thing. Wish I had never downloaded the demo. I really liked this plugin! My demo has now expired. lol
What other plugs do the M/S widening thing? Fabfilter I think - but in the 30 seconds I had to explore using that I got lost on how to set it up (need two instances of it iiic).

I'm glad this plug is killing' it for some f the guys here. I doubt I'll ever spend more than $200 again for a plug-in, regardless of quality. This entire site exists because the people here value their tools greatly. Yes, knowing how to use them is even more important, but highly value them we do. Although I can appreciate the skill and effort it takes to create a plug-in that achieves a high level of quality, I know from the horses mouth that plug-ins have become the proverbial money tree, except this time money does grow there.
Imagine someone telling a manufacturer 30 years ago they have a way for their company to no longer need to design and assemble their hardware products, no need for ordering metal work, no need for backup parts and space to store them long term, no shipping departments, no overhead for storage, no salaries for labor, heating or insurance costs, and lower taxes, basically cutting costs 90% and raising profits 10,000 %. And then imagine if that same person said they could keep selling that product with little if any revision for years and years. Perhaps you see my point about why people are getting tired of exorbitant plug-in prices now? Many big company owners are literally laughing their way to the bank.

It has a De-esser, wouldn't that belong on a vocal track, and not a 2 bus? If you used it as a de-esser only, it would use a lot of dsp just for that single purpose, wouldn't it? Or do people suggest using their de-esser and then rendering the track so you don't need it active anymore? Not always. I've on occasion asked Bob O to de-ess specific hits in a track that we just couldn't get right during dubbing or mixdown.

That's cool, thanks John. I'll keep that in my back pocket in case I get some digititus at the final stages of a mix.

What a crazy idea for a plugin... I love it. No way can I afford it. I might demo it just to see how it sounds compared to my usual chain.

On drums, the Weiss DS-1 has this amazing papery smack that emphasizes the resonant head and takes the roundness away.

This plugin fucks. This makes me want the hardware since it's less latent and the same sound with more rounding errors from 40-bit enhanced precision math instead of 64-bit.
Also attack/release filter is before the soft knee, threshold, ratio, and multiplier so crazy stuff is possible. Here's a video where JonV explains what this topology does to a compressor. The Weiss doesn't work like FirComp but it will have the same effects on the ratio with the release and the sound. ReaComp's classic attack is similar but sounds awful and ridiculous because it's ReaComp.
This attack/release is where the awesome behavior comes from that can emphasize the hit and the resonant head of the drum depending on how you set the 3 releases in a way that nothing else can. You can also even out the performance with the RMS detector while enhancing the peaks with the peak detector with a higher ratio and different sound than Kotelnikov and MDWDRC2. The peak detector is less grabby than Kotelnikov but you can set the DS-1 more aggressively. Amazing stuff.
