It has a De-esser, wouldn't that belong on a vocal track, and not a 2 bus? If you used it as a de-esser only, it would use a lot of dsp just for that single purpose, wouldn't it? Or do people suggest using their de-esser and then rendering the track so you don't need it active anymore? Very common to use some de-essing in mastering, MJB. After all that comp and limiting, things can get spitty. Many de-essers (like FF, my favorite by far) have 2-buss presets.

500 Bucks for a single plug in. Jesus.... Even if I would be a very rich man - I would not buy it. Playing the devil's advocate here: If Bricasti came with a plugin version - directly ported, no difference in sound - of the M7 for $500, would you guys buy it? I wouldn't hesitate for a nanosecond!!! I don't want to pay $500 for another compressor, but if it's as good as touted, it's a no brainer purchase.

Thanks Ragan. When I did my track Champagne Christmas, it came back from mastering a bit more sibilant that when I sent it. Perhaps if I'd used a de-esser on the 2 bus it might have been avoided. I'll try it next time around.

In a mastering context it's better to think of it as an automatic (but adjustable) single frequency band gain rider, which can be EXTREMELY useful in mastering, especially if paired with an M/S matrix. In mastering, so called "de-essers" such as DMG Essence get used for a whole host of things you might not think of when considering its generic name, e.g. problem bass frequency levelling, over-splashy cymbals etc.

Good to know. The track I was referring to used the new Chandler Redd mic. The frequency response goes very high. It's clean and not harsh, but it's there. So the vocal was right at the borderline, and mastering just pushed it to where it was slightly more sibilant than it actually was. I've also had trouble taming high hats, so I'll give this a try next chance I get.
I have all the Waves de-essers in the Mercury bundle,, plus Apple's in Logic, and probably one or two other brands. I think I use the Renaissance de-esser. Is there a Waves De-esser you guys would recommend?
And don't get me started on bass leveling. So far, nothing has worked, even volume automation note by note.

Seems that there while the majority are praising this, there are a few that didn’t think it held up to something like Ozone. I have to say - I would be pretty shocked if it “wiped the floor” with Ozone 8. That thing is seriously powerful.

So - mastering compression question. I honestly don’t really find myself compressing much on the 2 bus at all. My go-to has been using the UAD Manley Vari-mu in M/S allowing me to widen the stereo image to my liking. Usually taking off no more than 1-2 db on the M and slightly touching the sides. Anyway, if the this is super transparent, what is the ultimate goal with this on the 2 bus? Correcting dynamic issues not addressed on mix level? Does it have some signature that just sounds better?

You have to think the EQ-1 is coming at some point. Now THAT is what I look forward to.

And don't get me started on bass leveling. So far, nothing has worked, even volume automation note by note. Pro Tools style Clip gain (don't know if Logic has this or not) with a subtle Opto style comp (LA2a-esque) after it. Works for me almost always. Barring that......a new bass player?

I prefer the NYC "F-you" price of over quoting somebody by possibly 3x what you'd actually charge for the job. If you really want to use them, pay up. If not, go away.
Usually sends the message clearly hahhaha

Has anyone here tried this and Newfangled Audio Elevate? Elevate has been extremely impressive here over the last few months. I’d be curious to know peoples thoughts who have tried both. I’m gonna try and demo this when I get some free time and compare the two.
