API 529, didn't love it. Replaced it with a Serpent SB4001.. Yup. I have a 2500 and an SB4001. Serpent sees far more use!

2 Neumann KMD mic bodies.
Digital mics using AES 42. Sold 1 pair of 3 that I have. Excellent sounds through a Neumann DMI-2 interface.

Finally frankensteined an Altec 250T3 back together out of a couple carcasses, added the power wiring for it to work with tube modules like a 250SU, machined the back panel for connectors, rebuilt a tube and SS PSU for it, tested it with my tube modules, and it’s gone already. Might be able to build one more from the leftover parts, tempting to keep, tempting to sell, who knows……

I'm scaling back a bit, some things like HW channel EQ just wasn't worth the re-call issues and the sound quality difference after tracking with other EQ didn't justify the expense. I kept the Gainlabs empress on the 2-buss though.. I really (and I mean reallly) liked using the Bettermaker mastering limiter in M/S mode, it creates space and width but in said mode the BM doesn't limit all that well. Now I use it in conjunction (via a DAW insert) with Ozone as a final step on the finish line and it works very well.. The I/O workflow essentially put a stake in any dreams of a mixing desk or summing mixer but I don't feel like I'm missing out, the SSL Big Six (the second one) was eventually traded in against a pair of monitors. There's always a line between practicality and sound quality but I believe I've finally found a pretty awesome balance. I will stick to the premise that decent outboard compressors make a difference, it depends on which one however. The 1176 I have (as part of the 6176) could be replaced by a number of plugins but I'm keeping it around for the 610B / 76 combo which is being used to mic up a small bass cab. So the Acme Opticom, Chandler Opto, IGS Tubecore 500's, Shadow Hills Dual Vandergraph and Buzz Essence's are staying. In terms of preamps the API 3214V went, nothing wrong with it but the Shelford, Stam / Helios and 6176's cover everything I need. The API ended up being superfluous.. ericn said I'd learn a lot through this venture and I did, happy with how it turned out though.

Danny people can learn a lot through your journey, unfortunately I think most will put more weight in the results of your journey rather than the lessons of the journey it’s self. You have been fortunate to have your level of experience and the budget do this ( lesson #1 take care of your credit score so you can demo without digging into savings, also pray if your ever in a coma pray the person who is chosen to handle your finances doesn’t have a history of embezzlement).

So much stuff...
Empirical Labs Distressor (2) *still have 2* DBX 900 series rack with various modules Hairball FET/Rack Revision F John Hardy M-2 2 channel preamp *still have 8 channels* Retrospec Juicebox Empirical Labs FATSO Jr. Various ADR Scamp modules (mostly EQs) Tons of cabling Sterling Modular Plan A D and esk
There's probably other stuff I'm forgetting.
But I've also bought a lot of stuff with the money I made selling

Sold a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II lens. Still need to sell a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens. And probably a couple others, as well.

You have been fortunate to have your level of experience and the budget do this ( lesson #1 take care of your credit score so you can demo without digging into savings, also pray if your ever in a coma pray the person who is chosen to handle your finances doesn’t have a history of embezzlement). I had to reflect on this a bit, in short I agree the end results are what matters. The only lesson I've learned going from one extreme to the other is different setups sound different . It's easier to work with equipment that doesn't work against you and tons of other various crap I already knew. I will say though that the equipment matters far more IME than some let on, it's not that a cheap self recording setup can't produce excellent quality but it won't sound the same as a mainly outboard setup from various manufacturers for better or worse.
True hybrid seems to be what I was searching for and some plugs were needed to bring the outboard back into focus. Anyway it's really not cut and dry subject filled with variables that the chain itself dictates not any one single part of it. When I added a Mackie 1640i or Zed-R16 into the equation years back it didn't make a damn bit of difference, the SSL Big Six made quite the impact.. They're all low - mid cost boards that are supposed to achieve the same thing but they don't.. I've tried summing through various 20 - 30K desks, some made a difference, some I didn't like, some again made no difference at all.
Some compressors made things worse, some expanded the signal to the point it was overbearing. Mic's were the same, the ISK for example is suited to lead parts because it's so "large" sounding but on acoustic it's just too much and a 67 / MC930 was required to reign it back in. M88 on bass is a class act, you can actually hear the bass and what it's doing as opposed to being some low frequency lump that muddy's the waters. The Shelford makes everything sound like the Shelford and the LA-2A takes the edge off but use the wrong mic through the wrong pre-amp (like a 610B) with a dynamic then it's too mushy and incoherent to relay enough emotional impact. EQ'ing the stuffing out of it doesn't magically fix it either.
There's a lot to it and preferences weighed heavily on the subject, so I'm going to forget the gear collecting obsession and not question the "dividing line". If the solution works it's good enough and IMV there's no more to it.. Anyway after I've got my new monitors I'll be focussing more towards the sparsely attended WIP section, at this point it's definitely my skills that need polishing more than anything else I could dream of buying.
P.S I don't do credit anymore.
