5 years ago, a good friend and old bandmate of mine decided his bass playing days were over, so he sold me his Rickenbacker 4003. He recently had a change of heart, and kindly asked to buy it back. Great bass. Great guy. Couldn't in good conscience keep them separated. Besides, we made a deal that I can borrow it any time I need.

The person who sells you the gear should always have dibs on buying it back first. And unless you're a total pr1ck, you'll let him buy it back at the same price, or close.

I bought back a Guild Starfire II from the late '60s that I sold to a former band-mate. It was in bad shape. In retrospect, I shouldn't have charged him $500, but I repaid every penny of it when I re-bought.
In hindsight, it's one of my most "important" guitars, a gateway, and a guitar that I wrote some of my best songs on.
Glad to have it back, and after many years of refurbishing, I am happy to say, it needs nothing, and is a joy to play. The job after job after job thing became sort of a process of refinement. I even did a job on it last week. But I think it's sorted now, best I can tell.
Instruments that teach you things are important instruments. My current inspiration is an Ibanez RGA. But even that can be traced back to the Guild purchase. When I bought it, there was a Bill Lawrence 500XL in the bridge and a Dimarzio Tone Zone in the neck, which is absolutely insane for a hollowbody vintage guitar. But it's the kind of sound I make with that type of pickup that people who listen, and myself seem to respond to the most.
Just a long way to say I started on Stratocasters and moved on to very specific high output humbucker guitars. There was a Memphis MG-300 along the way too but that one was so badly built that the best thing I could do was sell it as a project, which someone surprisingly went for. That's how I got the Guild too, as a project guitar.
If there would be a personals ad for these kinds of guitars it might be "More To Love" or "It's Complicated"

Sta Level, Little Devil EQ and a Rickenacker 620. Sta Level is awesome but I've been leaning on optos more lately. The Little Devil and Ric just weren't getting used enough. All went to good homes.

I've been thinning the synth herd a bit. Sold my Roland JP8000 and my XP-80 died after 23 years of good use. It may be one of the few pieces of gear I've owned that actually more than paid for itself.

I sold a Avid Fastrack that was just sitting around on the shelf on EBAY. Now here is the thing that really pissed me off, I used the list one like this function and they calculated the shipping using a padded envelope! I would be pissed off if somebody sent me any electronics, even a $27 interface in a padded envelope. I ate the whole $1.20 to upgrade to a medium it fits it ships box ( had to run to 3 different post offices before I found one).

Just curious as I took mine off the shelf on Wednesday to record a vocalist during a video shoot in the desert. Needed something bus-powered that worked with a 10 year old MacBook Pro, I wasn't taking any money gear out on the trail. Worked fine with a 58 on the vocalist and supplying 48V to an IK MEMS condenser for nature ambience pick-up. Used the one headphone out to drive wired in-ears for the singer, so I had to monitor just plugging the 7506s into the line output, which was plenty of level in the quiet desert.

No just a Solo, I had bought it years ago when it was cheaper to buy a PT bundle than PT software. I’m cleaning out storage and rethinking things.

At least it went to a young kid who's super excited with it. Both the Ric and Little Devil went super quick on CL, I didn't expect that with things being how they are.

Nice, sounds like it's going to a good home. Not enough young kids playing Rics these days. I've had a few different Rics over the years (2 360s, 2 650s, 1 660), but never a 620. The body shape of the 600 series is honestly a bit of an odd fit to me, but the 660 I had was one of the best sounding guitars I've ever owned. I don't love the neck on a 660, and have been interested in trying out a 620 to see how it feels. Or maybe a 330. Or a 610. But honestly, there are other, more pressing needs in my studio right now anyway.

The neck was one thing I didn't really dig about it, strangely chunky which I didn't remember from the 330 I played years ago. Great sound though!

.....and a pair of CAPI VP312’s. Great, just don’t need them. Grabbed them for a remote job awhile back when I realized I wouldn’t get something else built in time.

Studio Projects C1 w/Mic Parts 'U87' circuit upgrade. Was my first mic so a bit sentimental to see it leave. Recorded a Christmas project with it. Had it modded later and while it improved the sound, I just haven't been using it. I'm moving up to a "big boy" mic soon, so out the C1 goes.

Just got rid of a bunch of pieces. I got rid of my Audio Technica AT3525s. They were always just an extra pair I had just in case. I’ve used them here and at the studio I learned at so frequently that I knew exactly how to place them. I also got rid of my BLUE B0 and B6 capsules. I just don’t like them on the Bottle Rocket Stage II. I prefer that mic with the darker caps like the B7 and B11. I also like the B1 and B4. So I kept those. I may move the rest of the system, but I haven’t really pushed for that yet.
Demeter VTMP 2B. It’s been my go to for FET mics, but lately I’ve just been using my Dan Alexander 1272 on everything and to great effect. Luckily my good friend, frequent collaborator, and studio mentor picked it up. Considering how often we lend each other gear I was glad he decided to take it and keep the unit in the family so to speak.
I also got rid of my Tab Funkenwerk V78M. Still my favorite tube preamp that I’ve ever owned. It was a key part of my vocal sound providing extra weight to my cheaper mics that my current collection of microphones just don’t need. I also never loved it on my wife’s voice or any other soprano I tried it on. Instead I’m building an all Neve setup and picking up a 1073 DPX to add to my Dan Alexander and TNC ACMP-84s. Going to pretend I’m recording in the Powerstation A room or Capitol B room. Lol.

Very very likely to leave, is my stock. Oktava 219. Similar "stay in the Family thing. I like local friend/low stress sales nowadays.
Super mellow, it will end up taming keening singers/cymbals/and the like.
Once my ears improved, and could notice it was turning any of my sibilance to "lisp-fullness"... Its days were numbered. Chris

Letting go of this USA Marco TFL5 custom Bass. Need to pay some bills and this is my 2nd best favorite bass in the collection. Really tight low B String and superb tight neck join which gives heaps of sustain. Just a real pleasure to play. 9 by BEANAT19, on Flickr 10 by BEANAT19, on Flickr 5 by BEANAT19, on Flickr

I'm fixing to let go of two Stam 76ADGs when I find a buyer. They are amazing but I just don't need them. Open to PMs to discuss!
