I would say the Drip Pultec or a CAPI kit is a good starter project.

A newbie like me could take 4...days. lol Naaa Sic, i swear once you get a single project done and realize how easy it can be, your hooked!!!! It's totally worth it man! I guess I really want to hear someone say that a DIY like the Drip pultec is a damn good sounding box... not just "good for the money and , hey, it was fun". I'm a bit green when it comes to DIY.

Consider re-sale...

Meaning you can't get your money out or you make money by assembling/selling?

It's a great sounding EQ!
I make my money off of using my gear, not re-selling it! But I am sure you could get the cash you put into it back out of it. All you would have to do is let someone hear it.

I don't care what you psychopaths say I AM NOT GETTING HARDWARE AGAIN. NO!
I will wait for the plugin versions which we all know will be very good.
Once I build my preamps I'm OUT. You hear me? OUT!

Well, "got rid" is such a harsh term...I "released it in the wild"... I love the thing - but it was mostly a budget issue. It's definitely a great color, but not a color for everything. I just found myself being able to get similar gain reduction results in the box. Maybe not as good, but similar. That's a lot of money for me to have tied up in one box that I'm not using on everything - kind of a luxury item for me. I found myself only using it on vox - which was awesome - but I just felt like I could get by without it right now and pay off some other stuff. I track bass occasionally, but direct into the Heritage then the UAD LA2 was pretty impressive as well. As far as replacing, I'm not sure yet. I'm gonna see how life tracks without it for a while...ITB compression for mixing...Maybe try the Brute again...maybe the Anamod 660...really liked both of those. The great thing about the Retro stuff is - they're always available if I change my mind...

I make my money off of using my gear, not re-selling it! SNAP!I didn't say this to be a dink. Sorry if it came off like that. It's just how my business model works. I only know a very few people who make it work any other way.

Send me your vocal tracks and I'll run em through it till you get another. I often use another comp or limiter along with it so it shouldn't hurt the file a bit. Just print a new one and send it back to you.

Hey John, et al. Anyone ever used the Doublewide? How did that compare to the other Retro offerings?
