I just heard this on the purple site, so take it with a grain of salt. However, I'd be curious if anyone here has heard this. You can even PM me if you don't want to post here. " I have it on on good authority that Neumann/Sennheiser is about to Reissue the M49 or as I call it the "Barbara Streisand Microphone".
They are only making 100 or so. Price? A cool $10K to start." Another message from the same person on the purple site. "Just asked and was told "will find out and get more details". Also was told they might hold back the announcement till next year. Right now they are really, really, really behind in orders. Was told will take months maybe till the end of next year to catch up. Also to prepare for a price hike on all Neumann/Senheisser products (not like they will have anything in stock for a while anyway). Glad I already have the reissue 67, because with the price hikes and unavailability till the middle/end of next year, it will probably end up being too expensive anyways. This also means that the used market will skyrocket/price gauge for their products(especially the 67 reissue)." Seeing used 441’s around $850, how much higher can they go. No please don’t answer that question.

Oh wow, I'd be willing to let go of my 441 for that price. I actually always forget I own one.

That’s the problem right now these prices are going to mean people who understand what they have are going to take the cash and run, guys who only get the hype and have way mo money than brains are going to buy.

Yeah, I’d love a 441 for about $425. But I don’t need one $850 bad…

I managed to acquire a brand new Neumann k47/49 capsule a while back. I finally sent my Barbaric M49 clone off to Chris to have him swap out the Dany D7 I had in there for the Neumann. He does free upgrades and repairs for life, btw, which is one of the big perks of buying a custom-built mic from him.
The M49 sounded awesome with the D7. I expected that the Neumann would sound better, but after some preliminary testing, it's exceeded my expectations. This is truly a special mic now.
Everything sounds natural and perfectly balanced, yet bigger and larger than life. The top end sounds much more open than it did before, but at the same time it handles sibilance better, possibly as well as any other mic I've tried, but I'll wait to use it more before I make that claim definitively. It sounded pretty good on acoustic guitar before, but now it sounds amazing. Off-axis response sounds much more pleasing.
I can't wait to get some real vocalists in here to really put it through its paces.

A quality M49 style, will probably stay a (very) long term temptation for me.
It's some consolation though, that at $2K or less, just within Soyuz they have the 017 FET and Bomblet to consider.
I'd have a hard time justifying $12K+, on the upcoming M49 Reissue. Chris

Chris Fancy mentioning the Soyuz bomblet amd the Soyuz 017fet, both mics i own since new but do not use that often as i have a 251 and 47 that sees more action. Problem is i just cant decide which one to sell. I dont think the Bomblet sounds very c12 ish, considering the capsule is made in that vein . I think it sounds mighty fine but not c12 ish. Also i dont this the 017 sounds very 67 ish . As its meant to be in that particular vein. I think they have enough of there own sound to be quite nice in there own right. but still not sure which one will end up on chopping block. i too also have a Ba49c mic. It has the heiserman capsule which is very decent.

Totally agree on all points. My sense right now, is to further use/understand what I already have as my "main" lead vocal condensers first... U195 on FAT/Baby Bottle SL/Warm 47jr/Oktava 319. My Oktava 219/AKG P120 & 200, either "sound smaller than life" and/or are more "Character Mics". Due to my recording area limitations for example, the Baby Bottle might meet-or even beat, the U195. Ideal distance for the U195 on FAT, is at least a foot away. Plus I need to do some more technical voice work. Including solidifying the Low End, and improving breath management. The "Lazy part" of me, wishes a new shiny toy would fix all that! Chris
