I just heard this on the purple site, so take it with a grain of salt. However, I'd be curious if anyone here has heard this. You can even PM me if you don't want to post here. " I have it on on good authority that Neumann/Sennheiser is about to Reissue the M49 or as I call it the "Barbara Streisand Microphone".
They are only making 100 or so. Price? A cool $10K to start." I’ll make a phone call Monday Please let me know what you find out. I’d have to sell a couple of things and delay buying some other things, but I might have to make this happen.

The entire issue with a reissue is the AC701. Very hard to believe. Unless they're miraculously going onto tube manufacturing? (Unlike the 67 where all parts are available, accessible or possible to recreate.)

Yeah either Neumann is contracting a tube manufacturer to make new AC701's, which would make the batch of 100 a little strange, or they've got a sizable stock of AC701 tubes, but one that's not unlimited. Still can't believe they're doing this.. Sorry for posting this here, but if anyone needs a kidney, I'm going to list one in the classifieds (just kidding)

Some of you guys may remember all those mint VF-14's I find once a year (every April 1st). Well I had some AC 701's mixed in too. But only exactly 100. Chris

The small amount of magic inside the AC701k is meh to me. Other small tubes sound good

On another note, there is a Decca FET M49 on reverb.

From the Beebe President of Senn USA “ I don’t know Germany hasn’t told me”. Now consider USA is probably their biggest market after Europe! So this is a I’ll believe it when I see it!

Greg doesn't blow smoke up anyone's ass. So this one goes into the rumor mill pile until there's some official word with substance coming out of HQ. <sigh> At least we have time to save $$ for it, in case it does happen.

For Sennhiser being a European company probably, Honestly granted we were there Biggest dealer in the world but I would say we sold almost twice as much Shure. To give you an idea how much Shure the Shure dealer of the year Award is called “ The Full Compass Award”. Plus Sennhiser has a deeper headphone, and corporate line and until recently Consumer products.

If these rumors are true, I honestly doubt they will only release 100 microphones (limited edition). It would be more logical for them to solve somehow the problem with the tube and return this microphone to production on an ongoing basis.
In any case, we have time to prepare financially if this happens. K49 capsules are wonderful. I have always found that microphones with a k47/49 capsule sound less harsh in the midrange than microphones with a k87/870/67. Especially on loud vocals. Has anyone noticed this too?

Phil the 100 units makes sense because Neumann reissues have tried to be as true as they can be to the original. They understand they have an advantage over the rest, that Neumann badge, but it’s only an advantage if they stay true to the original, if they sub a different tube they will devalue the brand. Now I was thinking last night what if somebody were to build a clone of the Decca modded M49? How much less expensive would it be? Those who know them say they are close, could it be as close as a flea for less?

So you'd still be looking at an expensive FET mic.

A lot of it would come down to who did it, but if Neumann brings back the 49 for 100 units expect $10K range so if you can bring it down to Flea / Heisermann range your still a bargain if it gets you close.

Price? A cool $10K to start." Another message from the same person on the purple site. "Just asked and was told "will find out and get more details". Also was told they might hold back the announcement till next year. Right now they are really, really, really behind in orders. Was told will take months maybe till the end of next year to catch up. Also to prepare for a price hike on all Neumann/Senheisser products (not like they will have anything in stock for a while anyway). Glad I already have the reissue 67, because with the price hikes and unavailability till the middle/end of next year, it will probably end up being too expensive anyways. This also means that the used market will skyrocket/price gauge for their products(especially the 67 reissue)."
