I also recommend Chris, easy and excellent to work with. He did a custom 49 for me based around the AMI kit as well as c37 and 47 clones. The 49 he built is my favorite mic I own.

Went full on as I got lucky and found amazing deals on a k49 and ac701 right when I was talking with Chris about building it. AMI's transformer (I believe BV11c, though it'd been a while and I'd have to check). Funny enough, and this might be in my head, but I feel like 2 1/2 years in it sounds better than ever.

That link you shared is Barbaric's "stock" microphones. They are basically his best bang for the buck microphones for people who don't want to have to choose and source all the parts themselves. They use Maiku capsules (which I've heard great things about) and the cheaper AMI transformers. They use generic chinese bodies and would look like the Sterling mics or the old Groove Tubes GT55 tube mic. But Chris also builds custom microphones: barbaricamplification.com/custom-tube-microphones/You choose and source your own parts and Chris puts it all together for you. For example, for your capsule you could do a Neumann, Heiserman, Thierch, Gefell, or whatever you want or can find. Adam, Nudwig and I all have custom M49s from Chris and funny enough we all have different capsules, tubes and transformers. My Barbaric M49 is pictured in my avatar. Barbaric has a Facebook page where he shares photos of custom builds he has done for customers. Another cool thing about getting a microphone from Barbaric is he offers lifetime free labor on repairs and upgrades. I'm thinking about upgrading mine to a Neumann K49 capsule soon and if I do Chris will swap it out for me for free.

I think (dont quote me) from what i saw online somewhere adamjbrass m49 was closer to the $1500 mark. So yes start off cheap and then customising adds more. I have started to get a custom m49 job from Chad and we go past that $850 mark quite some time ago.

Yes, but have since added a RED yoke mount, along with a padded case, so all in (including the Barbaric Handy work) for about $1675

Dave ( aamicrophones ), when you have these ready and have one you can spare for a couple of weeks, I would love to make a video with the CM47LE and the CM49LE. I have access to a FleA 47 at the moment and could put the CM47LE next to it. I also own a FleA 49 and still have your original CM49 and could put the CM49LE next to both of those. I really love the approach you are taking with the new designs. I can't wait to hear how they sound. Vincent, did you ever try the CM47LE or CM49LE?

Hoping to try it soon. There have been delays getting parts and everytime they thought they could send me one they had to fulfill orders instead. Which is totally understandable. As far as I know the CM49LE hasn’t been released yet. Last time I spoke with aamicrophones they were still sorting out the body kit design. They were trying to make it look as close to possible as the Neumann design, but with a screw cap at the bottom. It’s been a while since I had that convo though. I gotta say though, the Warm WA47 impressed me. I had borrowed it from mike and it was hands down one of the best under $1000 tube mics I’ve ever used. You could do well with a WA47 or CM49, which was my favorite of the AA line. I am excited to see what Dave cooked up with these new LE editions.

I feel willing to spend more for the right mic. When I listened to one of your shoot outs I noticed a lot of the sound I think of when it comes to 47/49 etc comes with how you treat the source in mixing. Ever tried the Telefunken TF-29 or Soyuz Bomblet?

Kind of in the same sonic camp as a U87 or BLUE Kiwi, but had its own sound.

Copperhead and Bomblet are both excellent vocal microphones too. Yes I've tried/sung through each.
IMHO though Jacob, my sense is that you're wanting more of a Classic 47/49 style sound, for your next purchase... Chris

Also ordered the heisermann h47tube so will be selling the SAE 47 mic i got from Chad if interested. Plus i have a heisermann 47 capsule in cardioid only m47 mic by barbaric of interested. Cheers

The world needs more microphones that give the user as much of an original M-49 as is possible. I never thought I could attain it when I was starting out.
I feel insanely blessed to have learned how to attain it, with my wife’s complete and total blessing.

Especially through my Fearn and BA-660 mic amps. (That I purchased before I met my wife)

Oddly enough, one of my fiancee's, was rather barbaric. Usually, one is mad at me, while the other one is mad about me. Subject to change without notice. Chris

Chris Never be engaged to two women at the same time. It just never works out. They always get jealous of each other, who's getting married first, sleeping arrangements etc. Marry one, then ask the second one, and make certain they know the rules of poly-amory are not the same as polygamy. Only one 'official' wife. LOL I KID I KID!! (I have watched too much Big Love and Sister Wives)
