Nice new features being beta tested:
Preview the new Symphony Control software!
Apogee announced the all-new Symphony Control software for Symphony I/O MkII at this year’s NAMM show, and as a registered user you have the opportunity to preview this release as a beta tester. Here are some of the exciting features we’re adding:
•Connect two SIO MkII chassis via Thunderbolt for up to 64 channels of analog I/O. •All new Symphony Control software replaces Apogee Maestro software. •Highly customizable user interface, including the space-saving Essentials view. •4 Low latency mixers plus FX Send, to use DAW reverb with Symphony Control mixers. •Core Audio Talkback - use your Mac's Built-in mic (or any Core Audio device) to communicate over headphones •Support for Apogee Control USB hardware remote
Introducing FX sends in internal mixers to get to your Daw reverb is a nice touch !

Kdog,
Since I know you've used Maestro and I never have other than the initial setup, I will be curious to here what you think once you give it a try.

that mac built-in-mic-to-headphones feature is pretty cool! no need to eat up a dedicated channel on your interface anymore to have a talkback mic!

You guys have REALLY got me feeling the lust. Or the gas...guess lust is from other things.
Anyway, should I ditch the Apollo for it? I'm trying to think if what I just couldn't live without in the UAD world...

I'm trying to think if what I just couldn't live without in the UAD world... Do you have additional UAD DSP like a satellite or octo card or is the Apollo your dsp card? If you use the Apollo for your dsp and you do sell, then I would go back and print everything for recalls ( double and triple check 😬) And then you can move into native processing without a hitch. It does say low latency HP mix, would be nice if the figure was stated, because people using an Apollo for tracking with plugs are used to the " no perceptible latency " I'm glad they updated this app and hope users find intuitive, efficient, and easy to use 😀

for a while they were claiming 1.6ms latency running it at 96Khz with a 32-sample buffer.

I've had the Symphony before, though. You can set it up to have zero latency, correct? Where you monitor the input directly back from the unit. Right?

john, i'm sure there are a couple studios in your area that have the new MK2. why not pay them a visit and check it out? I've gotten to where if I can't hear it in my own room, I don't even really bother. Not that my room is better or anything - quite the opposite. But I know what it sounds (or is going to sound) like. I was PMing with Ragan and I just don't know if it makes sense for me to try and sell the Apollo and get into the Symphony. Right now I use the Svartbox for AD and the Dbox for DA, so he Apollo is a big dongle/satellite for my UAD plugs. But considering I'd have to pony up another $1500 for a mkii and then buy a satellite if I wanted to keep the plugs...just doesn't make sense for the sonic upgrade it would bring.

maybe you could have someone bring one over, and then you'd be able to shoot it out with the Svart box.

I tried the BLA Micro Clock III and the Hilo...and thought while both offered extremely modest improvements (at least in the DA side - the AD side is sooo hard to judge without using both over an extended time) I didn't think it was worth the investments. That makes me think I'm somewhat chasing a ghost.

I never demoed the svart box so can't compare, but I won't be going back to the apollo from the symph mkii: thats for sure. Ragan was smart he shot out the apollo bf and his dbox vs the symph mkii, then decided., ah ,, guess what stayed

I got a sexy m box mini vintage 2009, that's dual channel as well as input... I used to record at beautifully hot levels and the way the pristine ADC circuit clipped was so freaking amazingly beautifully awesome I just can't resist the thought of letting her go for less than your Upton.. You should hear the way those ic's shine, true smd m box vintage glory. Yes it has the big knob on it too 🤓.... I know... how can you resist.... it's okay.... just take a couple deep breaths. I know the thought of this vintage mini m box being yours is giving you more pleasure than a pocket pussy 🤗
Again this is a vintage smd IC proprietary big knob mbox mini, truly one of a kind from an era of amazing professional products, I mean what else could you ask for 😬 So as I reminisce on this fine vintage masterpiece, I only have one question... Are you ready for a professional studio's biggest nightmare, a converter that truly represents and reproduces your analog signal in digital perfection with all the critical nuances, crosstalk, distortion and bandwidth of analog, are you ready to make the absolute best decision of your lifetime😳🤓🤗?
Oh man I didn't even mention the class F preamps that impart that perfect vintage hair and grit onto every everlasting drop of audio goodness you put thru, and yes your line level signal still goes thru this magical beast as well 😎 Last but not least for an additional $999 we can wrap the mini mbox In red ripped flannel long sleeve, with distressed indigo Japanese denim inlay, guaranteed to warm up even the coldest of pocket pussies 🤠.... I know you can't get that Upton in the mail fast enough 📦📭🤓

I think John needs a cold shower with an M Box or something. Did you keep the Symphony mk2 or was it a Symphony mk1 you were trying out against your Apollo Dbox setup? What was the biggest factors in making your current choice ( whichever setup you are using now ) ?

But the like I said, I don't use the AD or DA of the BF. But I wouldn't cry if I had to use the BF Apollo. Let's not get carried away with hyperbole.

Ragan mentioned to me that the difference in the DA of the dbox and the mkii were very slight...but he ultimately ended up keeping the mkii. I had a Hilo here for several days and while I thought it was slightly objectively "better." Lows a little tighter...but the differences were really small. And the differences wouldn't have made me mix any different. I guess it just depends on whether knowing there might be something that sounds slightly better is worth $1700 more. It ultimately wasn't for me. I think the DA on the Symphony will most likely be similar to the Hilo test...and I think if I tried it, I would be able to move on. I really wouldn't expect it to sound drastically "better" than the Hilo.

Wouldn't those 8 channels be a step down the the Focusrite?
