Not so. There’s things that need to done so you don’t just have a collapsed diaphragm all the time.

I agree, but I’d wait until Tony Merrill passes or is officially no longer doing SPA work. Has anyone managed to even track Tony Merrill down? Seems to be a ‘thing’ with high end mic techs. They seem to go off the rails and then go AWOL with a fortune in other people’s vintage mics. |

My limited understanding is, other things being equal...
The smaller the diaphragm, the tendency to sound more transparent.
The larger the diaphragm, like 6 Micron,
the fuller the tone.

As a general statement, for most of the population to care, yes. However, today, with so many great people generously sharing so much online, there’s so much more deep-diving that can be done, by simply searching with our fingers, should anyone interested in getting as deep as possible, up until getting your fingers dirty yourself.

I remember they ended up using a foam windscreen on the SP 67, for Linda R.
Guessing it might have helped protect the capsule from Linda's more high decibel level moments.

Nicely done. The vocal sounds kinda flat, but I suspect it's the vocalist or the processing, and not the mic.

I just put Srdjan Moby's BV12 in my MK67. It's a really nice change. I liked the MK67 a lot before but this is an improvement. There's a clarity and richness in the midrange with the Moby. Less low mid buildup and general masking. The Moby and Neumann BV12s are almost interchangeable sonically so I get what people have loved about swapping in the Neumann BV12. Real happy with the change.

Agreed Blackdawg . I'm lucky enough to have a modded MK U67 around with the Neumann BV12, but I would really like a real deal U67 around to use as a pair. It has slowly become the first microphone I try and I often wonder about selling my 2nd FleA 49 in favor of grabbing another U67.... but I'd rather have a pair of both. lol. |

The transformer swap in the MK67 is kind of blowing my dome. It is such an effortless, classic sound. I can’t believe how easy it is just sticking it in front of things and going, “Yeah, hell yeah, that sounds just right”.
I’m so happy with it.
