UA Volt 1. Bought yesterday afternoon! Already have 2 nice vocal demos on it. Using the "Vintage"/610 Button emulation. A keeper! Chris This might sound odd but I actually preferred the 610 emulation when I had the Apollo to the actual 610 in my 6176. It's a good DI and it tames bright condensers like the WA-8000, also it gives me a spare 1176 so I kept it but that emu sounds nice.
Have fun with it Chris.

Seems I've been drawn to antiques - a Symetrix SX202 dual mic pre, an Aphex 612 dual expander/gate (only because it came with a manual which will be scanned and made available online soon) and a Lexicon LXP-1.
All in unknown operational states.
Purchased because I absolutely cannot take on any more projects.... Man I still love and use my trusty SX202. Great preamps.

The Symetrix were a nice option for a quiet clean better than what was found in a mid priced console. It’s not a Millmedia, but for what they are going for a bargain. Oh I once thought about building a hybrid console of a decent line mixer and a rack of Symetrix 528e’ ch strips.

Thanks Shadow! I enjoy "playing it up" on low cost tone "enhancers". But the Vintage Button is a nice complement, to the Focusrite Air Mode, and even my Soyuz Launcher. In fact today, I'm running both the Launcher and UA Volt together, with a 58. To see/hear how much Rawk tone, "Choirboy" here can muster. Look out 'ol CCR tunes! Chris

I’ve never tried my SX202 on ribbons. I’ve always kept the gain halfway with condensers. Good to know that it can stay quiet when pushed.

Here's 58>Launcher>UA Volt w/Vintage Button on. Totally RAW/"one take" Acapella example. But among friends ... Chris EDIT: Added 2nd vocal clip. Same RAW vocal, but mildly Processed.

Update on my 7603 Xmod saga. Chameleon Labs phone number is disconnected and email to their support bounced. No word from Guitar Center yet. Guess I’ll break out my ohm meter. Opened the lid and the interior smelled like the magic smoke. Not a good sign. Contact them on Facebook. I've talked to the new owner extensively through Facebook. You bought it used right? How long is GCs guarantee on used stuff?

I just put a Technics RS-1500 that I refurbished into service. 1/4 inch to compliment our 1/2 inch Otari's. We've already gotten some requests to do transfers to digital

The year is going out very boring: all for the live rig, 2 Inquibity Ethernet switches, more Canare, Penn-Elcom. Trying to save for a CNC.

Just picked up a 2011 Gibson SG Special 60’s Tribute. It's gonna be great to have a proper P-90 guitar around here.
I also just picked up a new Fender JMJ Mustang bass. I'm really looking forward to having this around as a dedicated flatwound bass.

I was looking at the La bella 760f-mus or Thomastik jf324, but I'm sure there are others worth considering.

The JMJ’s feel fantastic in the hands. So fun to play, it doesn’t make it on a ton of records but when I need that thing I’m glad I’ve got it. The neck on mine just absolutely kicks ass.

On my MIJ, I've mostly settled on D'Addario Chromes. I was going to sell it once I got the JMJ, but just haven't put it up anywhere. Maybe I should keep it and put some rounds on it. And change the pups to Nordstrands. Ooh! - and refret it with larger fretwire! Nah, I should just sell it. The JMJ’s feel fantastic in the hands. So fun to play, it doesn’t make it on a ton of records but when I need that thing I’m glad I’ve got it. The neck on mine just absolutely kicks ass. I don't play bass terribly often, and as a guitar player for many years, when I do, I find a shortscale much, much easier to manage. I've had "normal" scale length basses in the past, but I just don't enjoy playing them. So I finally concluded a few years back that if I'm going to play bass on something, it's going to be a shortscale. I have to find a way to get a tone I like out of a shortscale. Or hire someone else to play.

I’ve got a squier jag in daphne that I put a mint guard on. Looks great and with a good setup, plays great now too. Jealous of that JMJ for sure though.

I found a NOS Microtech Gefell M990 that had been sitting in a dealer's inventory for many years for a good price.

I just secured an Audioscape XL-305R reverb. Finally ! That's one hell of a catch for the first day of 2023.
