All for the live rig 1. B&C DE-45, Sound Image had one on the shelf for $55, unfortunately I couldn’t convince them to use a T shirt as packaging material. 2. A Pair of Yamaha Cobranet 2 Cards for the DM1000. 32 Ch each way via cat 5! Yeah no need for a snake! Now I just need to decide AD8HR’s and a Yamaha interface or Whirlwind E Snake, either way full control of remote pre from the DM1000. Ha, I was running Cobranet cards between our DM2000 and 02R96 in a FOH/MON configuration for a decade, boards are still in that theater with the cards installed I'm sure. The sister theater had the E-Snake, which I loathed from the day it went in.

Theater install it was in omitted any copper mic runs to FOH due to installing an E-snake, Windows machine with the control software for it went belly up and they were running an LS9 with no Cobranet capability. Drag in a reel snake while cursing the installer who made that design decision.

Drag in a reel snake while cursing the installer who made that design decision. So it was more of a system design complaint than performance, I know new the cards weren’t cheap, but with a Yamaha I can’t believe someone would spec it without the cards that would let you plug the snake directly into the console and give you control on the console! Then again consultants and designers like that paid my rent! Whirlwind ES2’s with 16 inputs can be had for $250 ea used, so say $500 for 32 ch. The Yamaha NHB32 c control bridge that works with the AD8HR’s is $450 $550 shipped and AD8HR’s are about $150 shipped so E snake is 1/2 the price, don’t really need outputs from the snake Soundweb BLU 32 in each amp rack will cover that.

Hey Beyer, aren't you the guy who came in here a couple months ago and told us all about how Musicians Friend screwed up and sent you a 6 space API rack instead of the 8 space that you'd ordered?
Yeah, that was me.
Didn't you say you were actually happy they'd done that since the 6 space was worth more, and that you only needed 6 spaces and a smaller rack would make you less tempted to go on a module buying spree?
Uh, yeah.
So, why did you just order a used 10-space rack?
Did anyone actually believe I was going to stop at 6 spaces of modules?
No, of course not. We did think you might make it to the six month point before your willpower folded like wet cardboard though.
In my defense it was a REALLY good deal (about half of retail price), and I should be able to recoup most of the money by selling the 6 space rack.
You're gonna sell the 6 space rack? Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
OK, fine, I'm probably going to keep it, too.
Have you bought any new modules for your new rack yet?
I do keep looking at the CAPI stuff, and now I've got four empty rack slots...

Ordered a Milab VIP50 of eBay...always interested in these! I bought a new one MANY years ago. Interesting mic, square diaphram capsule, kept trying to find things it worked really well on. I asked my second engineer how he was getting along with it and he replied "its a great hi hat mic". I sold it. But a Beyer 201 is a better hi hat mic

But a Beyer 201 is a better hi hat mic I prefer a Telefunken 251 on hi hat Why does anyone mic the loudest, most annoying thing on a drum kit at all? I fantasize about making drummers use a hat trigger, but I know then I'd just have a loud thwhacking noise bleeding into the snare mic instead.

It’s not always necessary but at least in Nashville the increased popularity of dead, dark, quiet, $600 trash can lid cymbals played with corn stalks or chop sticks having a spot mic can save the day

When I've got a drummer doing a bunch of delicate hi-hat work, a mic can help. When I get a cymbal basher, there is already too much hi-hat in the overheads so I tend to eliminate the hi-hat mic.

So I can invert it and remove a bit from everything else 🤔

Seems I've been drawn to antiques - a Symetrix SX202 dual mic pre, an Aphex 612 dual expander/gate (only because it came with a manual which will be scanned and made available online soon) and a Lexicon LXP-1.
All in unknown operational states.
Purchased because I absolutely cannot take on any more projects....

In a quick burst of activity, I have entered into the 500 series:
CAPI VC528ml x 2 Electrodyne 511 x 2
To house them I snagged ab101’s 4 space rack from the classifieds.
Also have another Little Labs LL2a compressor on the way.
Should be good again for a bit.

gwlee7 I've heard nothing but great things about those Electrodyne pres. And I'm also still very curious about the LL2A. Keep us updated!

Ferrofish Pulse 16 MX (16x16 converters with MADI/ADAT) and MOTU M64 (USB to MADI/AVB).
No experience with either, but the Ferrofish seems to have a good reputation. Was planning on full-featured RME or that + Ferrofish for more inputs, but with the UFX+ not available, changed course. If I like the Ferrofish, may get another for more inputs, but this combination seems like a reasonable start.

Advanced Audio CM28 matched pair. On first listen, sound incredible. One mic’s output is about 3 dB lower than the other, still digging into that mystery.
