I’m excited to try my new Barbaric Amplification BA-50b mics! But first, I have a Disneyland trip this coming week and cataracts surgery the following week! I have drums to try them on as room mics once I’m done with all that! What capsule and tube did you go with?

That’s a Beesneez capsule. I convinced Ben to go the k50 Type II route; although he pretty-quickly decided to add an insulator between the backplate and diaphragm. After listening tests, he went with a titanium diaphragm.
I decided on the 5718 tube. Chris found the 6533 option too noisy for the circuit and quite microphonic. I could have done the 6947 like I did in my BA-49b pair, but was looking for something different and the 5718 seems like a pretty neutral bet. The 6S6B-V was an obviously good option, as they worked out great a number of years ago in some other mics, but I’m kinda glad I didn’t, just to be different. The 5840 is another great neutral option, but I’ve so many mics with those in them already. I thought of trying Phaedrus, but with quite a few other good options around, I just couldn’t justify it to myself.

Finished up this little project about 3 weeks ago. The neck is a Warmoth roasted maple with a black double bound nitro finished alder. Rutters bridge with brass compensated saddles and it intonates perfectly. I previously had Fender Nocaster pickups in it. After a 25+ yr hiatus I decided to venture into the EMG world again and replaced those with an EMG T set. Really surprised at the T Set, different than the Nocasters but really nice with great sensitivity. The controls are a little different, volume and tone are on the concentric knobs in front which is actually really convenient as I twiddle all the time. The middle knob is the EMG SPC mid-boost and the rear is their "afterburner" 20db boost with the detents at 8 & 15. Why? Because I can... It's like an old muscle car with an N2O bottle hidden under the dash, gotta be careful stepping on the gas or it'll dump you in the ditch. Roll everything back and it's sparkly clean and gorgeous. Wow, that is drop dead gorgeous!

Yeah, there was some rumors for a couple years that he was going to. I got wind of it and he kinda ignored my prodding about it when I’d email him about other things. I think he may have eventually, vaguely acknowledged it was true and that’s where it stood for some time.
Then one day he asked about interest in Group DIY. I convinced him to go the Type II style. He surprisingly had a very tiny first run very quickly and I was not ready. He eventually squeezed in a pair for me. Given his time demand, I’d imagine he’s offering them as an “as I have time” right now; which will probably be a long long time (a year?), but he’ll eventually get it done. He always does.

Wow, that is drop dead gorgeous! Thanks! I did a strat a few months back along the same motif except with Dimarzios and a Duncan in the bridge. Super sweet sounding but it's got a Clapton mid boost in it. Apparently I have a fondness for dragons lately...

I couldn't decide between a Rosewood or Maple Fretboard, so I had to buy both. But unfortunately one will have to go as you its a bit crazy having 2 x 2007 USA Fender Strats in Tob Sunburst. Leaning towards Rosewood and the gloss look over the satin maple look. But geez they both play and sound fantastic. The guy at the guitar shop is good.

hadaja, I always pick the rosewood over the maple too. The harmonic detail just appeals to me more than the maple. And then there's the look. Looking around the studio there are 10 ebony fingerboards and 5 maple fingerboards and 70 rosewood fingerboards. I see a pattern.

I'd go with rosewood, plus I always liked the smaller headstocks. Both are nice guitars though!

SSL UltraViolet stereo EQ on the way, was interested when it was released, couldn't resist at $500. Will slot in next to the Wes Audio Dione in my meter bridge 4 space lunch box. Let us know how you get on with it! Picked it up from FedEx this afternoon, stuck it in the lunchbox next to my other latest purchases; Lot of hardware/software crossovers around here lately... initial impression is this is gonna be a punchy bus EQ, liking the HPF + Low Shelf boost + Low Mid parametric cut across the drums so far.

Ahhh, but not as nice and round as 80! I think Ward can hit 80 with rosewood 'boards.

I got a, uhm, Katana 50 combo coming and a Classic Lead 80 celestion speaker to stick in there. This will make a pair of K50 amps for my mid sized "stereo rig," which is nearly complete. The last nitpicky detail is to get a stereo CE-1/CE-2 WAZA to replace my mono output self-made CE-2 clone. Stereo chorus!!!! Of chourus, why wouldn't you?
I've got micro, mid, and massive stereo rigs at this point. Quite obviously the micro and mid ones will be more usable in most locations and sit you ashuns.

Incoming HCL Solution opto comp has arrived! Built like a tank, might need a small crane or an engine lift to get it in the rack. It'll be a few days before I can put it to work as I am pokey right now with 2 new plates and 12 screws in my ankle... Pics!

Don’t laugh but I will admit to using Jacks to lift Crest 8002’s into live racks solo!

After looking for one for nearly a year, I found a Trek II UC-1A preamp, which allows guitars and other instruments to run through my Leslie 147. The thing sounds amazing.

As I’ve maxed out my rack space and I need recall gear for one of my new mixing options I got a Bettermaker passive EQ and a McDSP APB for my sins. So I’ve 2 full Wes Titans 3 Bettermaker boxes and 8 channels of Apb through a Nicerizer. That’ll give me all the channels I need and with decent plugs and High end gear I can “set and forget” and it should be easy. Another option I invested in is all tube with 8 channels of Coil and a Fat Bustard amongst other things so that sounds great. Otherwise I’ve been buying capsules, tubes, head baskets and improving clones etc. to create an Army of 47’s. I also put a deposit down for a Heiserman so I’ll be enjoying the wait. On a different note I got a stereo set of Schoeps with Mk4’s. That should save a few tax dollars destroying what’s left of Britain.

Very curious to hear your thoughts on the Heiserman next to some of your other 47s. Did you get both capsules?
