Just bought this 1968 VOX 1123 Buckingham amp. Version 3 It's in almost pristine looking and working condition. Just needs a little cleaning up. For $250.00 I just couldn't pass it up. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

I bought a surely broken Ampex AG440C 1/4” 2 track. But, motors seem good. I’m tired of being asked “can you print to tape” and even if if it doesn’t sound better, letting clients hear it. Eventually

Eventually I feel like when most people want something printed to tape, they really mean can you make it sound lo-fi and/or 'saturated'? No clue that well maintained tape sounds pretty clean depending on how you're tracking.

But it not, it’s a killer slap back machine!

....and finished setting up a rack of four RCA BA-101A for myself. These are early 70’s API 2520’s with UTC A series nickel input transformers. I added 80’s era Jensen nickel outputs. Converted the archaic gain control to an API type with CAPI stepped controls, so 24-59dB.

Initial impression = snake oil. After testing more, I've now drank the koolaid. It's completely imaginary, but at least I have a good imagination. And at least it was only $50. Attachments:

Still need to add the HDX DIO module but I finally got around to getting a Prism Titan for home/mobile use and to give myself 8 more channels on the main rig when needed. Would still be cool to eventually get that new Dream but for now the Lyra, and now Titan are great for traveling and I like the way they sound.

A couple new Collective Cases (Dan Deruloo) SM Power Supplies and Filter Boxes to replace the DOA CAPI Linear supply the died on me this week. Back in Biz!! Woohoo..... Man, didn't realize how much I needed those two 500 racks before I didn't have them. The Switch Mode supplies with the Filter box sound great!

Very cool concept! I'm a fan of SMPS, but, when poorly executed, they can trash an entire house circuit.

Grabbed a Langevin Dual Vocal Combo, seemed like a good deal at $600. And it’s not broken like the last 3 things I’ve bought!

For awhile they were around there, and then people seemed to catch on that you're getting Manley quality for 2 pres, shaping eq, and 2 channels of ELOP comp. I was glad to find one in excellent shape for $875. All the ones on Reverb are well over 1200 I think.

More than 15 years ago, getting back into recording, I looked at those low prices and assumed there MUST be something wrong with those units, since they couldn't command an appropriate price.
Shaking my damn head...!

Paid my final invoice on a Stam SA-47, bought PA NEOLD V76U73, and got a bunch of free licenses this week; SSL added their Native FlexVerb and X-Comp permanent licenses to the Drumstrip & Vocalstrip 2 included with their interfaces, plus another 6 months to their Native bundle demo. Got Waves Renaissance Vox & IR-L licenses free, which were V12 so I went ahead and figured out that upgrade for all my licenses that were still eligible, everything but my Abbey Road bundle and CLA MixHub. Only upgraded the licenses, running a mix of V10/V11 installs. And of course another free license to iZotope Iris 2, I thought they were being stingy only giving one iLok activation per product, but it turns out they give one out every 6 months or so...

Although the one I really want is NI VC 160, that one seems to smack a little harder. The NI puts a nice point on things.

Staining a new AudioRax 16 space rack today. A nice addition, and I'm staining it to match the rest of the studio furniture - Knotty Alder with a red chestnut stain. Love it!! This will make a trio of 16 space racks, a trio of 12 space (under rear desk) racks, dual 6 space racks, dual 3 space racks and dual 2 space racks. Not to mention the big mastering style desk, machine room and swinging mixer wall racks. Filling up..... This may pretty much be the last big one..... . (famous last words....). Haha!

You will slowly be surrounded by so many racks that you can't even find your way out, it is the death of dr bill. But you will be happy.
