Staining a new AudioRax 16 space rack today. A nice addition, and I'm staining it to match the rest of the studio furniture - Knotty Alder with a red chestnut stain. Love it!! This will make a trio of 16 space racks, a trio of 12 space (under rear desk) racks, dual 6 space racks, dual 3 space racks and dual 2 space racks. Not to mention the big mastering style desk, machine room and swinging mixer wall racks. Filling up..... This may pretty much be the last big one..... . (famous last words....). Haha! Note; must fly out and show the DR how to build a rack with your favorite home store doing all the cutting! You're on Eric!!! Finger joints?? My biggest problem with the first round of racks and window shutter ARG difussors that Jeff designed was the dryness here. Very, very dry. Everything lasted about a month before the cracking and pulling apart started. The ARG shutters started pulling apart in a week!!! (They were in west facing sunny windows.) I've been pretty solid on using only Knotty Alder, which I love. Especially when stained....but man, it can get busted up pretty quickly. Surprisingly (?), AudioRax has done KILLER work for me, and not a single piece has come apart in the finger joints. They do good work, but the word is getting out and their racks - at least the hardwood finger jointed racks - are getting much more expensive.....

You will slowly be surrounded by so many racks that you can't even find your way out, it is the death of dr bill. But you will be happy. Hahaaaa!! Trapped by my own devices. . Ps - I'm not into randomly stacking racks wherever possible. I like to keep the ruler flat freq and phase response of the room as close to what Jeff designed as possible. I am thinking we don't really need a laundry room though.....any tips on convincing the wife??

HD can’t do finger joints, but I do have the jig and and 4? or is it 5 routers😁 Have you considered some type of humidifier? Even in my Apartment I could use one in the winter!

My HVAC guy says they are pretty useless here. But we have a complete house system humidifier. Doesn't really do much unless the furnace is running. So for 9 months out of the year.....dry!

Paid my final invoice on a Stam SA-47, bought PA NEOLD V76U73, and got a bunch of free licenses this week; SSL added their Native FlexVerb and X-Comp permanent licenses to the Drumstrip & Vocalstrip 2 included with their interfaces, plus another 6 months to their Native bundle demo. Got Waves Renaissance Vox & IR-L licenses free, which were V12 so I went ahead and figured out that upgrade for all my licenses that were still eligible, everything but my Abbey Road bundle and CLA MixHub. Only upgraded the licenses, running a mix of V10/V11 installs. And of course another free license to iZotope Iris 2, I thought they were being stingy only giving one iLok activation per product, but it turns out they give one out every 6 months or so... Well, I checked out IR-L and tried importing IR1's full impulse library into it, then compared it to the Reverberate 3 demo with the same impulses. Bought R3 as it did a better job, so I guess the Waves give away was indeed effective at motivating sales... Also picked up the SampleTank 4 Alternate Keys pack for $14, don't recall ever being excited about accordian samples before but it's pretty great sounding.. for an accordian. Edit: Just saw they released Reverberate 3.1 an hour ago as a free update too!

Recently received my new Hamptone HOC1 -- most I've spend on a single channel....ever! Looks pretty badarse with my HVTP2 too. So far, loving it. I've gotten it to do the LA3A thing (pretty damn close), but it can go much, much further.
I was curious about that as I dig Hamptone, my HJFP2 has been solid for over 15 years.

(This is non confrontational, I totally believe you and respect you!) IN your own words, describe the 'LA3a' thing and what it means to you . . . and exactly how you find the HVTP approximates this! I'm am INTENSELY interested in your take!

The Haptone stuff is great. I've always wondered how their compressor sounded.

It's been a slow year. So far a bunch of cabling and connection plates for the new studio I'm building... well, the new studio building I'm into for about $50K or $60K so far (only my accountant knows for sure, today) but I did pick up a Samar VL37 which is mind altering. EDIT: Also purchased an old Gibson Tube Amp - 1961 Gibson Falcon Tube Amp GA 19 RVT. Only 204 of them were ever made, and this one is almost all original, and nicely shit-hauled. See attached. View AttachmentThat looks a whole lot like the one that Joe Peach, the rhythm guitarist in my first band had. Year's about right, too. He had a little John Lennon style Ric guitar.

I bought a surely broken Ampex AG440C 1/4” 2 track. But, motors seem good. I’m tired of being asked “can you print to tape” and even if if it doesn’t sound better, letting clients hear it. Eventually I feel like when most people want something printed to tape, they really mean can you make it sound lo-fi and/or 'saturated'? No clue that well maintained tape sounds pretty clean depending on how you're tracking. Well, that's because most of these kids never really used a professional quality tape machine and have no idea what it does. And, more importantly , what it's NOT SUPPOSED TO DO!!!
And if you want a real tape sound applied to digital, PLEASE track with it, because if you go digital first it kills most of what makes tape great enough to sometimes justify the ROYAL PITA it can be to work with.

Fuse VQP pack on sale. Hoping for some magic without tubes. Sometimes Pultechs just get too soft and mushy but I want some some magic.

Just got an email confirming my order is ready for a shiny new Axe Fx3. Add that to the Audioscape V-Comp I just scored on Reverb, my new Lawson L47 and my Fender Rhodes...and well...my wallet is going to hurt for a while.

Thanks to the wonders of the internet I’ve found just about every part I need for my Auditronics console. Just need a power supply and couple output cards, and a few more input channels. It only had one leg, so I dropped the one I had off at a metal fabrication shop to get a new pair made, and a buddy it going to make new wood side panels as well. So it should look pretty sharp!
