"Cheap but vibey". You mean other than an EV 635a or M88? AKG D790 (run under $60 typically) in "one take" vocal clip below... Chris I have an M88 (silver head basket) I’ve also an SM7B that’s very cool. I want a nice LDC for scratch vox when writing - I was thinking maybe a Rode NTK? I can probably pick one up second hand for reasonable money. AT 4047 would be something to consider.

You may also want to cross compare the other 47 FET "Inspired By's" under $1K. FWIW UT and (I'd expect) the Beesneez versions, to be well worth shooting out.
My so called "47 Jr" by Warm? Almost totally different from a proper 47 FET style. The flatter 3U Audio MKII circuitry, was a relatively better capsule/circuit match up.
But 4047/UT/and the Beesneez clips, all have greater detail... Than the 3U Capsules IMHO. Chris

So today I was doing lead vocals on a new song with a singe I've played with for 26 years. He'a a quirky singer and writer and is often pretty peaky. I had him on a 414eb, into my Useful Arts tube pre with the RND 2454 on the insert. I was able to get a really wonderful, nicely controlled sound using the mix function in conjunction with the time constants. Getting the sound going in means less work later. I can focus on creative things once it's time to mix.
