Yeah - he just started to advertise up top and down bottom though. So, he helps sponsor this board. I appreciate all these guys - let's be loyal to them and buy their products!

Haven't seen the banners yet, but haven't checked in much today either. Glad to see some "little guys" doing big things. Looking forward to getting my hands on some of this stuff.

I switched from the Warm Audio Tone Beast to the D4, and it's a whole nother thang. I'll be working on a little video for it next week. So far, my take on the D4 is it's bright and smoooooth. I hear much more low level detail now, so the nuance of a vocal doesn't get lost in the sauce of a digital mix anymore. I'm lovin' it, as they say. More to come.
Matt's the real deal, and I'm glad he'll be joining us.
I've wanted an LA2 or a STA-Level for tracking vocals for a while now, so I'm curious as to what the Federal sounds like when compared to those.

Matt's the man who came up with the original Black lion Audio FM192 mod for Mutt Lange and Mike Shipley if i'm not mistaken, winetree's D4 sounds killer, Matt's a bad man!

Thanks everyone! D864 signal transformers FINALLY arrived yesterday, after being pushed back by the manufacturer for almost a month. So those will start shipping out very shortly. I have two new dealers, SX Pro in the UK and Oceania in New Zealand. Working on an Australian retail relationship at the moment. I was in Omaha recently modifying some converters for a studio there, and they had both the RCA BA6A and the Federal AM864. I thought the D864 (surprisingly) has more in common with the sound of the RCA BA6A than the original Federal (they share the same input tubes). Anyway, thanks for welcoming me, and I'm excited to start shipping these comps!! Matt Dizengoff Audio

I'm sure Sylvia has one of those RCA's. The fellow whose 192's I modified at the end of July was Mike Mogis, who is in Monsters of Folk and Bright Eyes. He's got an incredible studio with a Neve in his A room and an API in his B room. I'd say the RCA was a tad more 'weighty' sounding than the D864 because it has that extra interstage transformer plus it's using a 6V6 power tube for its output stage. They share very similar input stages, though, and I felt they shared a similar quality.
One thing that's impressed me about the D864's behavior as I've been building/testing is that it has this ability to pull all the air out of a signal and make it dense, yet it seems to add this airy sheen around the signal at the same time. It's very interesting.
I sold a D4 to a fellow who interned under Sylvia Massey. He's a fantastic engineer, he has great ears. He really seems to love using the D4 on his mixbus.

Cool Matt. Are you happy about the new compressor resembling the RCA more than the Federal? Is it a good thing?
I took a look at Sylvia's site, and there's a spot where she has a before and after production song file. The demo is just horrible, I mean like way off key, monotonous, amateurish, etc. The produced song just rocks, is exciting, well constructed and interesting. If that's what she can do, I want some, cause she's a genius.
Matt, did I understand correctly, the engineer you mentioned uses the D4 on the mixes? I assume then he has two, and uses preamps on the 2 bus? I would have thought people would try two D864's on the 2.
