I've got the M300 here - want me to compare with the KM84? I did that a while back. It's a thread called SDC comparison sound files. KM84 still wins. M300 is great at a distance of 4 feet or even more. KM84 sounds great everywhere.

The 84's win when compared to the m300's. The m300's are nice mics for sure but, I prefer the km84's. I agree so much I've went on the quest for a km84. I ended up finding one that needed a little work (mostly the body vent posts and threaded ring are bent). I've decided to go balls out and have Sinsay re-skin with a nickel diaphragm. He should be able to straighten out the body tube as well. I'll have another trick up my sleeve when I get more money to play with. I think Sinsay can turn a KK85 capsule into a KK84? The differences should just be diaphragm tension and possibly the spacer gap? Looking forward to hearing what a nickel capsule sounds like. Then I'm done looking for KM84 alternatives, 'cause there aren't any no matter what anyone wants to claim.

Have you had a chance to compare the oktavamod version. I love that mic on acoustic.

I know this question is beaten to death at times, but....again!
KM184 against KM140? Really interchangeably same?
or
KM84 against KM140?

I'm losing my KM84 pair that I've had on long term loan for the last year or two.... considering replacing with the m300's. It'll mainly be for recording stringed instruments.... Is vintage king about the only place that sells them? I'd prefer used, but I'm not seeing any for sale.... Anyone want to sell me theirs?
