ok I give up, if I start a thread about other interfaces, can we post comments there about UA's innovations that apply to apollo's ? If you own an apollo and or are considering one, this thread was about understanding its current changes to its operating system. The changes that respond to many customer requests that have been made over the last 2 years The thread was not about debating the merits of other interfaces. Please start your own thread for that. I'm done. kcatthedog Exactly, that is why the Apollo thread has gone to crap on the other site. kcatthedog On another note, Can I use the Apollo twin with a firewire satellite? What is the latency (non console latency) on the twin? I really hate when I leave my computer for a bit and come back to having to reboot for my interface to work...the apogee stuff doesn't do that. The Apollo Twin with v.7.x software is hot plug and unpluggable, put the system to sleep also. I can have a console session open, then grab the laptop and unplug it, take it to another room, then return and replug in and everything works. Not so yet with the new version 8. Not an issue if you have a dedicated audio computer, except the sleep part. I don't know about the firewire satelllite question. I put my PCIe card in a t-bolt cage. That works. Gonna get a t-bolt satellite soon. The Apollo's not perfect but likely the most practical transportable solution for laptop recording and UAD processing.

@ric
here is an answer from Gannon ( the ua rep) to a similar question from the ua forum:
"Hi guys,
Metropical is asking about the FW ports on the Apollo. Nothing has changed between v7.11 and v8.0 with regard to FireWire and Thunderbolt operations. If you need to use the FireWire ports on your Apollo as a hub, you can still do so with v8.0.0 UAD software. You will still see the Console 1 application and all of those features, but you will retain the use of the FireWire ports on the Apollo. The Thunderbolt branch, v8.0.1, disables the FireWire ports, so you would need to connect your FireWire drives using the Apple Thunderbolt-to-FireWire Adapter and connect to your external display another way, perhaps using a hub with HDMI.
Hope that helps!

Actually I agree with Jk and did feel that you were being provocative (perhaps you meant it humorously). As a non apollo user I understood your first post , that you didn't get it. V8 and console 2 add almost 30 new features to Apollo.( which non apollo users would not know/care about ). Conversely, those that do, do ! I have an information officer background and read a lot of related articles/threads/sites and was quite wiling to share info about these apollo changes here to interested parties , which was my intention. Instead frankly, I felt like I had time warped to GS. An experience certainly far removed from JK's intention and I thought a common value and bond we all share here, i.e., not to go there. Not a personal comment , but one thing I find odd about many threads/sites is how people feel compelled to enter some negative comment which is not what the thread is about. If one wants to start a thread about critiquing a particle product go right ahead ,but that is not what my thread was about and surely you understand that ? What is news for one interface user may or may not be for the user of another interface. So, my hope was that we would simply discuss how these changes to apollo and its gui affect the workflow of apollo users so they, to whom my /our topic would be germane, could all best grasp and capitalize on these innovations asap.

Just a client who plunked down my $1,000's of hard earned dollars like everyone else and someone who tries to make a positive contribution. And, of course, I can think of no good reason that you implying I am completely disingenuous and have completely misrepresented myself here to my internet friends would be of any concern what so ever. I understand we don't really know each other, but really ? Seriously, can we get back on topic ?

KCat,
This isn't exclusively a C2 question, but do you know if I can send to an aux and then record the aux into my DAW, rather than the channel output? For instance, can I insert the 1073 on my input channel then send 100% of that signal to an aux with, say, the fatso inserted, and then route the aux output to my DAW?
I'll check it out myself later when I'm in front of my rig, but thought I would just ask for the time being.
Thanks,
Jason

I think you can...Couldn't you just route the Aux to line 7-8, the line 7-8 to your inputs and record in?

Thanks, John. If I went that route (haha, no pun intended) wouldn't my signal chain be source > fatso > 1073? What am I missing?

Hey CI,
here is a related post from the UA forum, I think everyone, including me, is still finding their away Console 2, the new functionality is nice but its also different and with the new screens/pop ups a little sort of hidden ; we need to be adventurous !
"Quote Originally Posted by graemespicer View Post In Console 2, what happened to the Aux Send Output assignments? The drop down menu that used to be just above the pRE and POST buttons is gone ... I'm sure this is something simple, but I'm stumped. Hi Gramespicer,
It's true Flex Routing has been removed from the Aux Returns in an effort to unify the devices in the mixer. Previously, it was available only on Apollo.
You can still route to those physical outputs using the Cue Routing. Just open the Cue outputs tab and assign to the line outs you want. You may need to add a Cue send in Hardware settings if you've already used the 2 default Cues.
Hope that helps!

OK, now I'm pissed off. UAD sends me an email announcing UAD version 8.0, and I'm left out of it? I paid $2,000 for an Apollo when no one knew if this thing would float, and I'm repaid by being ignored. Essentially they're saying too bad if I can't afford a Thunderbolt card? Fine, if they weren't just giving it away to new customers. I can get a Twin for $699, and they still insist on asking their bread and butter customers $500, just for a card alone. I'm sorry, but something's just very wrong about this. The very very least they can do is offer those of us left out in the cold a hand back in. Like I said, either a one time only at cost Thunderbolt card, or a special offer 3 plugs for $399 with a T-Bolt card. I'll really consider dumping UAD if I have to, and I've been a vocal supporter of them since day one. One customer may not matter, but a reputation does, and with the power of the internet, we have a voice that can be heard by thousands, and hundreds of thousands. Where are we at with our little Apollo thread over at the site which shouldn't be named? a million views. That ought to tell them something.. don't bite the hands that feed, they may start biting back. I don't understand the anger about UAD giving away free TB cards with new Apollos. Rather than updating the line, removing firewire capability, and going only TB, they're now giving new buyers the option of TB of FW. The fact that there is an option to update your old hardware with a new card should make you extremely happy, even if it is $500. I have a 002 that's a boat anchor. I paid $1500 for it new, can't upgrade it and can't use it with Pro Tools. I can't even sell the thing. Similar situation with people who own the Apogee Ensemble. Ensemble was a firewire only device without an upgrade card. Instead, you have to shell out $2500 for an updated version if you want TB support. Expecting UAD to give first gen Apollo users a free card just because technology has changed is ludicrous. Anyway, back to the real topic at hand. kcatthedog, you seem to be hip to what's going on with UA. Any knowledge of a possible Apollo Twin Quad any time soon? Finally, the new TB Satellites have 2 TB ports. Does anyone know if you can plug an interface (Fireface 800 specifically) into the Satellite via FW to TB adapter and the Satellite into the computer? Basically, daisy chain a FW device off the second TB port on a Satellite.

It wouldn't cost them anything to extend an olive branch to those of us that bought before they decided to give away the TB card. They could offer us a voucher that equals the cost of the card - it's ZERO overhead for them, and we STILL have to buy the card, but at least they would have pleased a segment of their customer base. I broke down and bought a Tbolt card because I wanted the new features - but they aren't building customer loyalty with me - I feel a little like they have me by the balls.

jcoutu1my understanding is that you can use a fw to tbolt adaptor and that a fw satellite will work on a tbolted apollo system running V8. I don't know anything about UA's product development plans. I presume they have an octo apollo mkii with 8 pre's, tbolt 2 on board in dev't to compete with the new apogee ensemble and given the hungrier dsp plug ins that they must be trying to shoe horn a quad into the twin which would make it a more powerful standalone tracking with dsp device too; maybe they will blow the doors off the twin and launch a 4 pre quad twin so it could take complete advantage of current unison slots too ?

I just have a difficult time justifying purchasing something as seemingly underpowered as a duo at this point. Maybe if track freeze comes to Pro Tools it would be easier to swallow, but as is, no way.
