I really like the floating nav buttons also. Junior was kind enough to send me the link to this forum, for which I thank him profusely! As much as I have enjoyed gearslutz, many of the members that I learned the most from are already here (cowboycoalminer, johnkenn, etc.). I have very little recording experience compared to most of you guys, so I won't be able to contribute much, other than the occasional silly question. But I'm grateful for being able to learn from professionals willing to share their knowledge. Thank you for this! Welcome man. No big I's or little U's here. |

Your just being polite same as you would if we were standing face to face. I've often wondered if keyboard commandos would be so bold in real life as they are on some massage boards? My guess is, they would come around with their hat in their hand  |

Yeah, I've never developed the ability to be a prick just because of internet anonymity. If I wouldn't say it to your face, I wouldn't post it on the internet. I guess another way of saying that is I'm just as much of a prick in real life as I am on the internet.

Lol! yeah, me too, but i'm really trying to change my smart ass ways, I found that as much as people laugh when you do it in person, it misrepresents itself in print on the net?? I'm tiered of saying "i was just kidding bro", so i ain't gonna do that no more spanky! It easier to be a little extra nice, and it also helps to be on a forum with a bunch of guys you respect, and that say things like "there are no big I's and little u's here", that is worth it's weight in audio gear! |

Yes, I agree 100%. Communication face-to-face has a lot to do with tone of voice, facial expression, body language, etc. as well as the actual words used. If you use the same words on the internet or in an email, all that stuff isn't noticed, and humour can come across as sarcasm or just plain stupidity. I use a lot of humour when I teach, especially teaching very dry subjects, and I can judge how well a lecture went by how much laughter there was. If my students "got" my fairly dry humour, then they were probably awake enough to understand my lecture. But I have to be much more careful when writing online lecture notes or answering student emails.

Thanks Jeff. I'm going to take advantage of my newfound freedom to post whatever I want and say that I'd kind of like to never see a big corporate ad on this site (Avid, SSL, Harmon, etc.). If things centered around small mom-and-pop business I'd be very cool with that. I'd rather be exposed to the companies that nobody has ever heard of. John--perhaps you can do something like offer new start-up companies free banner ads for a limited time to help get the word out about those companies. Admittedly I haven't read the thread/policy about banner ads, but I intend to do that soon.

Update: Just checked it on a Mac with Firefox and everything works fine. Can see the smileys and all links work. Guess it will also work on this windows-thing once I restart... I use Firefox on a Windoz PC and they float for me at the top left of the screen. It is a very cool feature! I'm back at the Windoze Pc and after a restart, the button now also floats on the top left here. It didn't do it before, it just disappeared with the rest of the page when I scrolled down. I also saw no smileys before, now there here. I just mention this so I don't look like a complete dummy to all you guys |

You can go there without signing in and see it...just clear your browser cache...or cookies or whatever...
BTW - good for Jeff...but now that GS has locked that thread and started another, they can make the problem just go away and act like nothing happened. And BTW, I'm a little disappointed the drbill hasn't bothered to come over.

I was fishing in PMs , telling people to check out Real Gear forums and someone I sent a pm to reported me . I lost interest in GS a loooooong time ago when most of the real engineers I could actually learn something from left . Then pretty much I just subscribed to any CAPI threads and just checked those every time I visited probably for the last couple years . I rarely would look around the forums . The only gear I care about now is DIY and GS is not DIY friendly as we all know and pretty much why this forum got started . |
