I am the horrible, banned, ne're-do-well, Johnkenn that previously haunted the Gearslutz forum. First, let me explain why I was banned from Gearslutz. A while back, I posted a new UAD-2 Quad in the Gearslutzz classifieds. I got it in a Guitar Center deal at a ridiculous price - but already having a UAD-2 card, I didn't need it. I posted it as "new"...Well, I wasn't aware that you aren't supposed to post "new" items in the classifieds. Apparently it's in the "rules" (have you really read the rules?)...So, when asking why my post was deleted, I tried to explain my situation...They didn't care, and Sniperschool was difficult (to say the least). So, I posted it again, saying something to the effect of "the mods say I can't describe this as new - so, it's used - but not used"...That got me banned from the classifieds. OK - that's what I get for being a wiseguy...but I just thought the whole thing was a little Napoleon in nature.
So, a little while later I registered another username - "Annonymoose"...I used it for selling on the classifieds for a LONG time...Somewhere along the line - after over 5000 contributing posts to Gearslutz, they noticed...and I was banned for a month. Well, at this point, I was done...So, I registered another name to check my threads - and I was then dumped forever...Oh well. They seem to be insinuating that I was creating multiple accounts for some sinister plot against mankind. That wasn't the case at all - but I DID knowingly break the rules...So, it is what it is.
Anyway, I had been wanting to start a forum for a while. A place where there were no politics. A place where one of the moderators didn't own a competing pro audio company. A place where threads didn't disappear when they didn't say what the moderators wanted...A place where there weren't tons of knuckleheads. So - here it is. We will see where it goes. There are no rules here. Say what you want. Hopefully this place will be word of mouth and can be a place for intelligent discussion. If it were to succeed, I'll do what it takes to keep it that way.
This is a fluid experiment, so lets see what happens!

Good for you John. I also was banned from amateur GearSlutz some time ago for some. Telling the truth on GS got me banned.
Maybe if my company would be a client from one of the vendors things would have been different.......but i'm not. So free speech i could not.
Good to see Jeff here too. Hope this forum will be more pro-oriented then GS and their DJ / produca kids.

They don't want you gone for good. Too many members like you. It would be way bad press if they canned for something as silly as that.

It would be cool if we could get a core group over here...Maybe I can call in some favors and interview some session guys, engineers, producers, artists here in Nashville - or see if they'll participate in a question and answer. I'm also working on a blog for realgear...maybe I'll link interviews there.

Hi! I followed the trail from GS. I have no idea what happened over there. I'm a fellow CAPI fan, and have built a few of Jeff's preamps by now, so I have followed the CAPI thread with great interest. It's a shame that the mod policy over there is what it is.
Congratulations on your forum, John. Looking forward to hanging here.

I too posted an ad that said "as new", and a "point" was issued against me, despite my apology and willingness to change the wording of the ad to comply. It was obvious from the ad I was not a dealer. I'd bought a Reflexion Filter Pro, tried it for an hour, put it back in the box. Slutz should simply clarify how to say "new" without breaking the Slutz law. I'm sure there's a good reason behind it, but the should certainly make it clearer. Good luck here Johnkenn, or should I say Mr. Admin.

I'm game. I always thought GS was becoming too commercialized. It seems that, over time, most forums end up trying to cash in on their fame and/or their moderators end up manipulating their sections for personal gain. GS used to be alright, aside from the huge amount of *me too* threads cluttering up the site and obfuscating the valuable information. Hopefully this new place can hold off the BS.
