I don’t remember getting as good a tone with the pedals. I wonder if I’m hitting the front end with more gain? Seems like I remember them saying the HiZ on the front is plus 10db even at zero? Am I making that up? dunno. pedals were a bust with poor qc, bluetooth, and drm. I think the pedals were an enormous hit...

The UA website has a FAQ for input levels with the new plugins, which talks about setting the instrument in at minimum on their interfaces for typical operation. help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/30847259997972-Lion-68-Super-Lead-Amp-ManualI took a peek at one of the Apollo manuals and the instrument in is rated +12dBu.

I'm a fender guy, I know a Deluxe Reverb very well.
And Dream just hits home for me.

One thing I notice is I kind of love having only a few IR choices at hand. You just hit an arrow - so much easier than pretty much any other amp sim I can think of…

Up here ( cdn), peeps want $4-450 for one used pedal : all 3 with the bundle price would be around $330 cdn.

In the Lion, that 414 on the V30 sounds incredible…Ruby the silver and Blue and Dream I think I prefer the EV. All of them are really well done captures, though. If they had stuck a bunch of crappy ones in there, it would have ruined the whole thing. I’ll have to try with some of the standard IRs I use…but one of the things I liked about it was that I wasn’t worrying about IRs.

Yeah, I like having the IRs as presets there - very easy and fun to use. They are cool to play with, but I'm not completely sold on them, especially when trying on a mix. On the Dream I'm certainly going for the EV most of the times. The Oxford is cool but can be harsh and too dynamic, while the Greenbacks is the opposite, more muffled and compressed. All 3 can be useful with the right settings tho. Ruby I haven't explored much, but all cabs sounded interesting. Lion I feel is the most critical one. In general the amp sounds very mid range. And so the cabs as well. At least for crunch to gainier tones. For cleans and edge of break up they sound pretty good as usually is the case with good IRs. The V30, the JB and the Stripped On-Axis Greenback are cool, but I always feel they need some adjusts and post eq. The EV also works in some occasions. That's it, they are nice cabs overall, but I wish I could make some adjusts. I wish they release the OX as a plugin as well, to go along with these amps. That would be great.

You could use it with the direct “cab” and use your own IRs…right? I haven’t used it in a mix yet - so yeah - that’s really the ultimate judge I guess.

I know I sound like a fanboi...but I can't stop playing these things. I can arrive on a killer tone even easier with this than the Axe...which I never thought I'd say. They're all just killer - and I'm not sure I don't prefer the sound just overall better...I'm gonna have them one way or another...but I'm thinking about...don't laugh...selling the Axe.
Edited to add: These feel the most like just turning on an amp (wish they were also standalone though) and being able to dial in a great tone. They curated some killer cabs and miked them in the traditional way each amp has been miked historically. So I don’t have to worry about which IR I’m gonna use. (They all sound good).
I still can’t get over the fact that these won’t work with the dsp.

Ok so Johnkenn publicly questioned my ears so I had to go back for a longer demo session and I will admit that I was hasty and wrong with my initial reaction, soured by the disappointing "Gen 2" Apollo release.
I used the very nice sounding hi-z input on my Empirical Labs Lil FrEQ this time and welp, these are actually quite good. I figured out that 1 on the gain knob of the dream is like 3 on a real Deluxe which helps for headroom on clean tones.
They are also easy to use and a lot of fun.
There is something about the breakup at higher gain that I don't quite like but I rarely play that hot anyways.
I have been playing all 3 today and its a hoot.

Runnig the TS overdrive plug (UA Tubescreamer) in the UNISON slot and turning off the effect on the pedal...sets up the Apollo with impedance for guitar.... and then playing the DREAM. It sounds really really great. But......UA really need to add a compressor in there..... don't know about you fellas... but I like some compression on a Strat into a deluxe....it helps with smoothing out the dynamics (unintentional) in my playing cheers Wiz

Today I bypassed the cabs and ran these to my Carvin TS100 power amp pushing a nice vintage 12" speaker in the room.
Glorious.

As soon as I plugged my strat into dream first time, just started playing a swampy rhythm riff: turned into my new song: “all good”! All guitars through dream, ruby and lion, ua and fab filter plugs , Audioscape ssl on 2 bus for mix down. Intro by my pal Rick Anderson, he was di’d too, but not using ua amp sims. on.soundcloud.com/dt3KMGEzf3NmKpb78

Now I need the Dumble as a plugin and a new one for bass. Yeah that’s GOT to be coming. I really want the Woodrow Deluxe And the Mesa is probably coming…although I don’t really use high gain that much. Wish they would continue with more amps…

I got these three amp sims included as part of my Spark subscription.
Though I'm a long time true UA plugins fan - I'm must I'm a bit underwhelmed.
The Dream 65 does sound good in isolation but it sounds a bit weak compared to a similar amp in S-gear V3.
And then when I push my Tone King Imperial mk2 into my Waza Tube Amp Expander all my sims just sound artificial (yes I realise they are artificial) the tube amp just "sings" and sounds so much richer and musical especially in the all important mids not to mention the touch - proper dynamic response to touch!
Obviously not a fair comparison as one's a boutique tube amp hardware and cutting edge Boss WAZA tech. but still it's useful for me to compare.
Of the three sims, the Dream 65 stands out as having some of the vibe of my Princeton amp though a bit hollow and kinda floaty.
I'll be using the Dream 65 in any writing sessions when I'm on my laptop - I do enjoy playing through it.
