Maybe they like stripping? It looks like we've caught AKG with their pants down... (Sorry, I had to)

Yeah It’s funny how that works, where would be without Fastenal / Granger / Zoro? When we moved a couple of months ago I couldn’t believe all the bags of small screws I have lying around from various projects over the years! A couple of years ago I flipped a console, I can’t remember the brand, the buyer complained that I had replaced all the mate black screws with nice new shiny stainless Phillips, had to explain to him that after the 6th screw I had to drill out because the original black where the head would strip out it just seamed like a sensible thing to do😁 Nice thing about Amazon is you can get a bunch of screws quickly for fairly cheap. Or Aliexpress in a pinch for odd heads/sizes. Heck, that's where most of the screws are coming from anyways. Finding small metric screws at the big-box hardware stores is an exercise in futility and they're about 5000% marked up. I think I got the M1.4 6mm x500 for like $8.00 on Amazon and it arrived the next day. For the anodized red bolts on our V14/V24 after looking all over in the US I just ended up sampling a few companies at Aliexpress. One company was more pink than red. One company clearly had QC issues because they sent two thread sizes in the same bag, one of which was not the correct size we needed. and one company nailed it. RE: the black vs shiny screw debate - IIRC you can coat stainless with a black oxide, but it's not conductive. Sort of important for some chassis screws! I try to get 304 stainless screws whenever possible, but sometimes you just need black screws. In that case black zinc over carbon steel works as its conductive enough. Black chromate isn't great, although it depends on the thickness.
