wiz you tried that AC-30 Brilliant? To me, that might be the best take on a real AC30 brilliant channel out there. It can cut glass if not tamed, but the real one is the same. Not as yet…will try today…..I immediately put the fm3;into productions……have been loving the fender stuff…..the blues junior is great…the vibro…..the deluxe…….still learning. Love the editor…..I think I am going to get the fm3 off the desktop and into the rack as I don’t need to touch it. thanks for the heads up on this thing it’s killler cheers Wiz

In a mix I’d never be able to pick it. I’m currently saving for an Axe FX 3. It’s stunning technology!!

In a mix I’d never be able to pick it. I’m currently saving for an Axe FX 3. It’s stunning technology!! I agonised over the FM3 turbo MKII vs the AXE FX III turbo.....but the price difference was almost double. I was researching all I could about the difference in processing power and what it would mean for me. Whether I would need the extra inputs and outputs as well.... In the end the FM3 was the right fit...... I do chains like. input, comp, drive pedal, amp cab, delay, reverb output and haven't run into a problem yet.. the AXE 3 turbo has 3 times the power I have and can do extremely complex chains..... I just wanted something to replace amplitube and Neural DSP etc that I could track easily with LUNA and reamp easily. I tried using the FM3 via usb but that doesnt do what I want in terms of monitoring. So I ended up with a DI/REAMP set up.... I split the guitar signal with a DI/reamp box. When I track my guitar I record it via SPDIF OUT of the FM3 into my apollo x8 and into LUNA...that is the WET signal, in stereo. The dry signal gets recorded to a mono track. That way I can reamp easily if I need to. It has alll worked out perfectly....and I guess I have a redundant live setup should I need it. As opposed to the Princeton tone master and floor board I use live. Maybe get the FM3 with a 15 day return.. try it...see if the sounds gel with you ....and you can return it if it doesnt work out..or if you decide to go to the big guy return and pay the difference and get the FX3. cheers Wiz

wiz Just thinking - could you not set up the Out2 on your FM3 for the dry DI signal?

I’m saying you wouldn’t then have a need for the DI/thru. But maybe I’m not understanding.

I can't seem to find a manual online for any of these, but I'm particularly looking for one for the FM3 Turbo mkII like wiz has. I'm trying to figure out what sampling rates the S/PDIF out works with. Is it 44.1/48k only? Or can it also do 2x rates?

JohnkennI just want to say thank you for recommending the FM3. It really is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I rate it up there with the Bricasti M7. As far as not using a real amp, this is the best I’ve ever come across and to be honest I can’t get this good as sound in my studio mic ing an amp. It has a wonderful feel And responds to my different guitars beautifully. Cheers Wiz

You basically said what I’ve said in all the threads - it might be the best purchase I’ve ever made as far as the amount it can do, ease of use and the best customer service/support/development I’ve ever experienced. There are firmware updates just about every very two weeks. And every single time I think it can’t get better, it does. Makes me really frustrated with plugin developers after seeing how this thing has evolved. Oh - and you’re exactly right - I don’t think I could mic these things up and get that tone…maybe if you spent thousands… Thought about replacing it and bought UA Ruby, Dream and Golden…Strymon Mobius and couple of drive pedals…sounded really good, but I could pretty much match it pretty easily with the Fractal - AND all the pedals cost more than a used AxeFX 3. Glad you’re loving it, man…it’s definitely one of those things I thought “why did it take me this long to buy this?”

I had an Axe-FX 3 MKII, but I never gave it a fair shake before I moved on. I should try it out again. The presets and menu diving turned me off. I went tube amp -> load box route. Not entirely happy with things.

Not entirely happy with things. If it’s been more than a year and before Cygnus FW - you definitely should. It got bonkers good after that. Also - use Axe Edit. Super simple. I don’t know how to use the front panel either.

I literally just bought a Boss WAZA Tube Amp Expander to use with my tube amps and pedal board and I think the results are fantastic and the feel of the guitar is great. I very much like modellers and amp sims too, I think they’re brilliant for writing as they’re so quick and convenient and you’re not burning up you’re tube collection sitting coming up with ideas!

Yeah I love stuff like the Iridium (would probably love the AxeFX too) for writing and/or getting keeper takes. Super easy and enjoyable. Then I re-amp and mic later.

With all the AXE love that abounds, I have been somewhat hesitant to mention that I have pulled the Fender ToneMaster Pro in to see how it does. It was getting hammered in reviews when first released about a year ago but, there have been multiple firmware updates since. I am getting along with it quite well and may decide to keep it. Just for giggles and grins, would you guys be interested in some samples of me messing with it?

The manuals are on the individual product page at Fractal audio under the downloads tab (right under the product picture at top). Big fan here - been using fractal since 2011 - the improvements over the last decade are truly amazing and they are (IMO) great products - but like bonding with the right guitar sometimes the only way to know if it works for you is hands on trial.

Wait…so now you’re not going to get an Axe…I can’t keep up. It’s a matter of buying things in order! I already own a huge analog pedal board and two tube amps (Tone King Imperial mk2 and Princeton 68), so I’m not going stop using those as they sound and feel fantastic. I’ve just bought the Waza Tube Amp Expander as it allows me to silently record them and really crank up those amps to get the tone I want without added volume. And the re-amp facility of the TAE gives me another option post tracking. I do want more amp options like an AC30 and a Marshall Plexi but I’m not going to buy anymore tube amps and that’s where buying a Fractal Axe will happen and take care of giving more more amp options as well as running hybrid with what I already own. It just takes time to save up for all this stuff! So yes I’d love an Axe FX 3 or an FM unit …. definitely, an Axe FX will be my next guitar dept. purchase.
